Great speaker, as others have mentioned needs more bass
It’s a great speaker. Installed a set on our patio. Mounted them horizontally without issue. Very clear, excellent mids and highs, great volume and sound. The bass is a little week for my liking so I will probably add an outdoor sub. If you like Bass these will score low on your expectations.The only other con is they are pretty large but most outdoor speakers are. The shape may not be ideal as there is an arch in them and they don’t lay flat. If you plan to point them inward they work great, if needing them to be flat it will be a prob.

Worth every penny!!
After many reviews and watching tons of video reviews on the Bose 251 Wall Mount Outdoor Environmental Speakers, I finally decided to pull the trigger and purchase them for my wife’s Christmas present (back in 2020). It’s January 2023 and I am writing this review because I wanted to give them a couple of season’s use before I offered my two cents. I wound up getting them in White and actually had my electrician install them and run the speaker wire. Let me give you my honest assessment. The sound today is as crystal clear as it was when the were installed. We put them on our deck to provide music to our in ground pool area and it exceeded expectations. The music reaches our entire backyard, driveway and side yard area. The sound is like I am at a concert, but even better. These were the exactly what I hoped for and even better. We have had no issues, and the white still looks brand new. I would highly recommend these if you are on the fence. We hooked the speakers to the Bose SoundTouch SA-5 Amplifier, which allows us to use our smart phones to play music – so simple. I often don’t rave about a product, but this one deserves it.

Better than expected…
I’m not one to write reviews, so I hope this helps you make your decision.My new Bose 251 speakers are mounted outside, under the cover of my patio. I have them spaced roughly 20′ apart, and they’re mounted at about 8′ high. First, let me say I love them. I’m happier than I thought I’d be. I’ve been reading reviews on several different speakers, hearing how disappointed people are with lack of bass or a flat sound or whatever they needed to complain about. No complaints here. None at all. The mounting was very easy. 4 screws on each bracket, and the speakers just slide down in place. The speaker angle is adjustable by loosening the 2 knobs on the sides of the speaker. Super easy. The speaker wires can either be connected with banana plugs or just bare wire tightened to the connector nuts. I went with bare wire. Again, super easy. I went in the house to turn on the receiver, and was a little unsure what I would here when I walked outside to my patio. Well, I could hear them inside very clearly. The bass was more powerful than I had expected, and the highs were clean and crisp. The sound outside filled the entire patio area, and carried out clearly across my backyard. WOW!!! I am very pleased.I mounted these less than an hour ago, and here I am writing a review. That’s how much I like these Bose 251 speakers.Yes, I strongly recommend them. Enjoy!

Great mids and highs
As with most Bose speakers the high and mid range are great, with very nice separation. These speakers lack for bass, but make up for it everywhere else. They replaced a set of Niles outdoor speakers that had good bass, but everything else was just muddy sounding. A small sub with these Bose speakers is the ticket for quality outdoor sound.

Great sound, but pricey
I used these speakers to replace a 20 year old pair of Boston Acoustics speakers. The sound quality of the Bose speakers is almost as good as the Bostons, which is to say great. However, I also decided to try some HTD outdoor speakers which were less than half the price on my second deck. The Bose speakers are great and you won’t be disappointed, but outdoors, especially in a noisy pool side environment the HTD speakers performed really well and the difference is hardly noticable. That being said, it’s hard to justify the additional cost of the Bose speakers.

Not like I remember from Bose
I installed these outside and have the SONOS amp running them. They can get loud but I do here distortion which is annoying to me. It makes it sound really bad and if you are looking for clean sound these are not doing it for me. Not sure if they are just a bad pair but I will be contacting the seller. They do not have much bass but that is ok. That part I could live with if there was not so much distortion. I will run them for awhile to break them in and will follow up with any changes.

Perfect Sound Indoor or Outside
Bought these outdoor speakers after hearing them at a friends house. My friend is driving them with the associated Bose amp and I am driving them with a Denon AVR4500. Both amps run these speakers equally well. These Bose speakers are the only outdoor speakers that have dual tweeters and a woofer which makes them sound better than the other speakers I compared them to. Using the Denon AVR4500 I compared these speakers to the huge Klipsch AW-650 outdoor speakers, Klipsch 15M bookshelf speakers, and Kef Q150 bookshelf speakers. The gigantic Klipsch AW-650 outdoor speakers were very disappointing and came in last place (returned quick!). The Bose 251 speakers sounded much better than the Klipsch AW650 and Klipsch R-15. Obviously the Kef Q150s were the best overall but the bose 251 were only slightly in second place (and I have historically not been a Bose fan so I was very impressed with how well they did). My wife and I performed blind listening tests on all the speakers to see which we liked the best. All speakers were driven by the Denon AVR-4500 in our living room, same speaker wires, and banana plugs with the subwoofer turned off. Speaking of, the Bose 251 sound fine inside and outside without an additional subwoofer.

Need a little more Bass
Overall these are very good speakers, however, coming from Bose (and the price tag), I expected a little more bass than they give. I’m guessing I’ll have to add a subwoofer to get that sound. Very easy to wall mount and hook up. They do fill the backyard with sound.

Good but pricey speakers for the backyard
I bought these speakers for my backyard as the previous house owner had this model of speakers installed previously (he took them with him when he sold the house). I figured that the installation would be easier if re-installed the same model of speaker. As it turns out, a new installation would only take about 10 – 20min anyway as the bracket assembly is four holes and comes with simple instructions to mount the speakers to different surfaces. Speaker wire was already located, so it literally took about 10 minutes to install these speakers at my home.The sound is good – as you would expect, not as much bass as equivalent 100W floor-standing speakers, but very good when you consider that these speakers are designed for all weather conditions.That being said, at $358/pair, these speakers are not cheap and I am sure there is a significant portion of the price in the Bose name.Bottom line: I’m sure you won’t be disappointed with the performance, but I’m not sure they are the best value for money.

Good speaker, but pricy.
We installed these this past weekend and I am very pleased, but….I am not a pro when it comes to speakers, but I enjoy well made products and I am willing to spend more money on a better product. That being said. I don’t know if I will purchase these again. I have owned Bose and Polk products in the past, and I decided to go with these since I had Polk outdoor speakers at my old house, and wanted to try a different product. These sound great, but for the price I wish I would have purchased the Polk Atrium speakers instead.Bose makes a good product, but there are other brands that can give them a run for their money when it comes to outdoor speakers. I am satisfied with these, but I feel I paid too much money for them.

Absolutely Amazing
We recently upgraded our home to a dual zone receiver. We wired our living room for zone 1 and left zone 2 unwired. I bought these Bose 251 Environmental Speakers for my boyfriend as a surprise for Father’s day. We just got the AV guy out yesterday to wire and mount these speakers in the back of our house. When we turned them on the sound was unbelievable. The AV guy looked at me and said how much did you pay for these speakers, thinking I must have spent at least $1000.00 on them. He couldn’t believe when I showed him the price on Amazon that I paid. With the volume turned down to 24 dB, the audio output was still crystal clear at the furthest area of our outdoor entertaining space (at the back of the diving board). We cranked the volume up and there was never any distortion, just pure clean sound. We were even able to hold a conversation at normal volumes anywhere in the back yard because the speakers were providing such an even omnidirectional sound projection. Absolutely Amazing! I can’t say enough good things about these speakers.

Love these speakers!
These speakers are wonderful. Everything I expected and then some. I hooked these up outdoor with a Fosi DA2120C amp for my TV and to use Bluetooth for music. Lots of bass. Recommend this same setup for others. Speakers are loud and crystal clear and I don’t have to use any particular app to run this setup.

Bose = quality
I’ve heard people say speakers need to “break in”. Now I know what they mean. After a while (several hours), they are much fuller with more bass. I was worried at first but they are great. Wide dispersion of sound. Super clear highs and mids. And they look cool too. Every Bose product I’ve ever bought was top quality.

These are some of the best speakers on the planet!! I use them in my professional DJ business (with a subwoofer), at community functions, and in my Boy Scout activities. They made my back patio the most desirable room (in) the home, and when I recently sold the home, the buyer put in the contract that I would leave the Bose outdoor speakers! Easy enough, I just purchased a brand-new set for my current home!! Everyone is happy!!

Great Overall, Lacks Some Definition
Overall, a great, well rounded pair of outdoor speakers. Frequency response tested as ~40Hz-15kHz. I do find that the Twiddler design does make for great mid-ranges and reasonable bass, but lacks some definition. Nice aesthetic but wish that mounts allowed for up/down and left/right for better positioning. Easy to install, and project well. Upgrade from Sonance Mariner speakers and their range is slightly better and project further.

best addition ever to my commercial fishing boat in Alaska says my crew
purchased these speakers in may of 2014 to use as deck speakers on my commercial fishing boat in Bristol bay Alaska. They are used for the 2 month season 20 hours a day. they are clear and without distortion at the very high volume needed to be heard over the hydraulics and engines when the boat is running and clear at a low volume when boat is at anchor. they are mounted where they take continual salt water spray and have held up well.

Pleased with the speakers, may buy more
The sound is terrific. Don’t let the term “wireless” let you think there are no wires. You have to connect the speakers to an amplifier via speaker wire and plug in the amp to an electrical outlet. The recommended amp is for indoor use only so I had to drill a hole in my house to run the 2 wires from indoors where I plugged in the amp to the 2 speakers outdoors. Once installed, playing the speakers via a Bluetooth connection is a breeze. A tip is to be sure you have good wireless connection near the speakers too.

Bose 251s are Excellent! I did a TON of research and finally chose these. On my patio I needed my sound to turn the corner and with their angled speakers they sound amazing all over my patio. Great value for money.

Way better than the Yamaha NS-AW350.
I took the advice from the “most helpful critical review” and purchased the Yamaha NS-AW350 speakers. While they sound marginally ok indoors, they sounded a little pathetic in my large back yard. After living with inferior sound for a couple of years, I just upgraded to the Bose 251.Wow! There is a world of difference. From a full, rich base to crystal clear cymbals, the sound is simply amazing. And just for grins, I brought the 251’s back indoors and compared them to my ridiculously expensive JBL’s. To me, the 251’s sounded better.These are terrific speakers and well worth the money.

Great speakers. It’s work to install them
Great speakers. It’s work to install them. Hire someone who knows. You need to buy the BOSE amp in order to make them work. The speakers are great but the am doesn’t recognize our music from our computer. My husband called Bose and it seems that the software they are using is poor. It’s disappointing considering the total price between the speakers and the amp. Hopefully it will get resolved.

Please, do not buy on Amazon!
Great speakers but after a year one sounded like an internal speaker had gone out. Spoke with Bose to find out this was manufactured in 2008 even though I bought it in 2018. Bose is going to repair because I have a receipt and then only offer a year warranty. Do not buy on Amazon if you want a new speaker set. I’m questioning how long these are going to last since they are already 10 years old.

Deceptive Description – You don’t get TWO speakers for $398.
The description of this product makes it sound like you are paying $398 for two speakers. I spent almost $800 thinking that I was getting 4 speakers – two sets of two. Instead, I ended up paying $398 for EACH speaker. Now, these are great speakers – at a $200 each price point – but not at what they actually charged me. It left me feeling very ripped off because the description clearly indicates that you are getting a PAIR of speakers.

You have to hear In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida on these things!!
OMG!! The best sounding speakers I have ever owned! And yes, I have other Bose speakers but these are a step above in clarity and sound. I don’t even have a sub woofer and they are so good. You wouldn’t believe the little 50 amp amplifier I have them attached to either. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida has never sounded so good…

Been a Bose user for many years. Had a pair of these speakers for over 12 years and still work great. Just added a second pair to the patio and wow. Had a problem with one of the older ones and Bose was great with the repair.

These speakers might be really old
Mine look and sound great but when I called to register the warranty they said this speaker was made in 2010. Be careful with that logo pen if you turn it. Don’t pull it out all the way.

FANTASTIC OUTDOOR SOUND
I am a musician and a nut about sound quality. After lots of research I chose the Bose 251 Wall Mount Outdoor Environmental Speakers to hang on the back of my house. I already had wiring in place which made installation easier. You need to drill holes in the wall for the plastic screw anchors, then hang the mounts with the screws, hang the speakers and crank it up! The sound is as good as you are going to get in an outdoor setting. The bass is very good and you can dial the volume up to call the police levels. Highly recommended.

Beware! Seller (Bose on Amazon) provides no warranty
I purchased 2 of these sets about two weeks ago (July 2020), installed it right the way but only today entered registration info on Bose website. Both of them after registration state “No longer in warranty”. Otherwise great speakers. I wish it had better bass when on lower volume though

Wow
I purchased these speakers to replace some junky AudioSource speakers after about 10 years. The sound quality from the Bose 251s is incredible. When I go out in my yard, about 40-50 feet from the speakers, they sound like a professional sound system. The sound quality is incredible. These speakers face West so their durability will certainly be tested. They are in the middle of their first winter and so far, so good. Fortunately, I picked these up on Amazon for a measly $198 for the pair. Mistake? Maybe, Good Luck, Definitely. Even at the standard $398, these are still well worth the money.UPDATE: These speakers are now 6 years old and are still looking and sounding like they day I installed them. If I could give more than 5 stars, I definitely would. Stop looking elsewhere!! These are the speakers to get.UPDATE 2: After 12 years, these are still amazing speakers. Still look and sound great!!

Great sounding speakers, Packaging could use help
I ordered these speakers to mount in my race trailer along with a Dayton Audio DTA-100a amplifier. I mounted the speaker mounts and everything in the trailer and noticed as I went to hook up the speakers that one of the input posts was completely snapped off. There are a few other reviews and instances of this happening too. The whole reason for my purchase was for an ice-racing event the next day that we were attending so I did not have time to wait for another shipment. I called my local Bose outlet store, explained the situation, and they were extremely helpful and exchanged just the one speaker (the other speaker was completely mounted and wired). They sound amazing with the tiny Dayton amp.

The people across the street thought it was summer festival Time!
They really look good on the front and back of the house and then I have them hooked to a Sonos Device. They’re waterproof weatherproof and they sound really good if you have a low volume settings or a high volume settings! I love BOSE Products they’re all over the house and now they’re on the outside!

Exactly what I wanted and expected
I had a pair of Bose 101 speakers outside for almost 10 years mounted on the deck, they performed perfectly, unfortunately being outside through Rain, Snow and summer heat took its toll and they were DOA in the spring. I wanted another pair of equally good sounding speakers to replace them and have been a Bose fan for a number of years. My expectations were set by the previous pair, and knowing the the open landcape of a deck is an acoustic challenge for any speaker. I ordered the Bose 251 speakers expecting the same or better sound quality and an easier mount/removal, as I will probably pull these in for the winter months. The 251’s are perfect. The sound is crisp and even in an open landscape there is sufficient bass to my ears. I like the hand tightened method for securing the speakers to the deck mounted brackets, which will make removal and remounting a snap. All in all I’n very satisfied with this product, its a winner.

Bose Quality and not so Bose price
These speakers are an excellent value. Superb quality at a superb price. Do yourself a favor, if you are looking for good outdoor speakers. I paired them with a Fosi BT20A 200 watt Bluetooth amplifier for my pool deck. Fantastic!

Great wired patio speakers
I bought these speakers for a Palm Springs patio where it can get over 120 degrees in the summer. Bose was the only outdoor speaker company to have a high temperature rating. I am happy with the size, appearance, and ease of installing onto a wood beam under my eaves. I only wish the bracket allowed rotation that could be adjusted after the speaker is wired and mounted. The sound is a little better than expected, with decent clarity and bass for background music.

I received my second package. Amazon does not have a good way to follow an issue and I thought it was dropped but my package arrived yesterday. I set up first pair and they sound great. Cant wait to set up the 2nd.I’ll write another review in the future after some use.

You won’t be disappointed
I purchased the Bose speakers back in May, but waited until I used for the Summer and Fall before writing a review. The speakers were delivered well packaged. I didn’t know how many speakers I would need, as my outdoor entertainment area is relatively large, with pool area. I ordered 4 speakers, but returned 2 of the speakers. When I cranked the 4 speakers, the sound was too loud, I have 3 acres of property. The 2 speaker delivers top notch sound. The speakers pickup the full sound ranges. You will not be disappointed with the range of tones.I use the speakers with the Bose amplifier. Controlled the Amp/speakers with my iPhone or Alexa. Setting up the speakers were relatively easy.I live in the northeast, we had an unusual high amount of rainfall during the Summer and Fall months. Also had early ice and snowfall. The speakers shown no concerns for any of the bad weather, they still sounds great. I just stored the speakers until Spring.Listen to 2 speakers before buying 4 speakers.

Slightly Above Average Sound – Too Expensive
These are great looking speakers. The build quality is also very good. The design is terrific. But the sound sounds like an average outdoor speaker. Sound qualities are very compressed and boxy- Even for Bose (which usually compresses the sound) this sounds very restricted.Considering the price tag, have a look at PSB or similar brands. Probably sound about the same as a Polk Audio (Atrium 5s). It’s just the pricing that has me give it an average review. There are much better non name brand speakers that sound far better.Hope this helps.
