Big help with many use cases
I initially got this for spot checking temperatures for my car engine during maintenance. My first use case was to trying to pin point where the tiny water leak in my kitchen was coming from before making a hole. The water pipe to the refrigerator runs overhead where the light fixtures are and had a tiny pin hole leak. Water was dripping out of the corner one of the main kitchen lights. I used the laser thermometer to get an idea where the cold spot was. The surrounding surface area was around 75deg while the cold spot where the water was dripping was 67ish.Other then that I’ve used it for checking BBQ grills, power plug temp, computer cpu cooler surface temp, LED light bulbs heat output, and a few other electronics.I like that it has dual lasers, light weight, screen is easy to read and doesn’t stay on for long.Only downside for me is that it uses 9v battery, I don’t have anything else that uses that style of battery. I won’t be able to use any of my rechargeable AAs or AAAs. There are rechargeable 9v batteries out there, but it doesn’t come with one.

As good as can be expected
I originally bought this thermostat temperature reading laser gun to keep an eye on what the temperature is going into the supply and coming out of the return because Summer is here and I want to make sure that my air conditioner is running efficiently in the way that it should be and performing my due diligence even though I’m not an HVAC technician I know how to do basic things and I know a little about a lot of things, so I cleaned the coils on my outside unit because they were absolutely filthy after going through the very windy winter months and every year about this time I take off the cover to expose the coils and I gently and carefully with a hose using my thumb as the sprayer clean each layer very slowly and carefully without damaging the coils and removing as much dirt as I possibly can and I usually take about an hour and a half to two hours doing that to make sure that I have cleaned it as good as I possibly can so that way I know it will have no problem sucking in air and it won’t be struggling to do so and also checking my filter which I use the cheap filters so that way there are no air restrictions instead of the pleated cloth filters which causes more problems than most people realize, I use the cheap fiberglass filters which do exactly the same thing except they allow for easy air flow which is exactly what you want and then I check my evaporator to make sure that was clean and I just had to clean that off a little bit and maybe the only thing I have it done is taking a vacuum and stuck it inside of each register to clean whatever little bit of junk gets in there every now and then but I’m not too worried about that because there’s never really anything in there, I don’t have kids so there’s no one to throw toys or trash or whatever in there and I also got myself a brand new thermostat because I believe my other one was on the fritz and it was giving me questionable temperature readings and my unit seem to be running longer than it should be and not cutting off when it should be so I did away with the seven day programmable bullcrap thermostat and got a simple single stage non-programmable thermostat with a cool off and heat button and that’s that with a big digital display and a bright light up screen in the background and I’ve had that for about a week so I have been monitoring that quite often on a daily basis as well as making sure the temperatures are where they should be as far as going into the return and coming out of the supply and I have my thermostat set right around 68° and using this thermostat gun after letting my air conditioner run for a good 20 to 25 minutes to get a consistent temperature I then start measuring the temperature of the air coming out of each event which should be anywhere between a 15° and 20° difference than the temperature I have my thermometer set at and right now I have it set at 67° and as you can see by the picture I posted after I just took the temperature coming out of my vent in the kitchen it read 51° which is exactly right around where I want it and I went around to each vent in my house and check the temperature from each one and I have a basement so of course it’s going to very because it’s cooler in the basement so it rained anywhere from 48° to 52° and it just gives me more confirmation and knowing that my air conditioning unit is running efficiently and working as it should be and these are all simple things that any homeowner can do if they think that they’re having any kind of issues, check the easy things first at any homeowner can check before freaking out and calling an AC repairman to come over and spending a whole lot of money that you didn’t need to spend which usually happens 9 times out of 10… As far as I can tell this thermostat gun is about as accurate as I would expect it to be, I can’t say that it’s 100% accurate but I don’t think I would be able to say that about any different kind of thermostat, but I tested it on several different things and it is about as close as I needed to be so I would definitely recommend this product

Probably what every Floridian should have…
… or rather, every Floridian who has purchased an older house. I had this nagging feeling that something was amiss with our house and sure enough — we were way overdue for renewing our attic insulation. I knew it was bad, but this handy gadget confirms it. I can’t wait to see what the temps are like after the new insulation gets added! I’ve been able to document different parts of my house with this… and even realized crazy things like my leopard geckos enjoying cooler temps than I do at my work desk!!

Gun performs great, and has many features. Questionable build quality
The gun worked great. I was able to take the temperature of my catalytic converter and figure out that I need a new cat converter. The battery wires and terminals are made of garbage quality products. The tool came with the black ground wire disconnected from the battery terminals. I was able to solder it back on and make some use of it, but I wish they’d spend a little more on build quality. Also, I hate how it uses a 9v battery. Would be better if it used double AAs but I guess they had to cut on costs somewhere.

I like this product because all the other temperature gauges are harder to get a good reading. This product does as it says. Just point at item you want to see the temperature of and it reads it right away. I can’t beleive i didn’t buy this sooner.

previously opened and returned
We received the item so we can get temps for our Blackstone grill. Immediately upon opening the easily resealable package and once I understood it had pre-installed batteries you could see the battery insulation strip was missing. So not brand new, previously opened snd returned which means I have to fully inspect it to make sure all is ok. There is a TINY battery indicator which stays lit for only a split second. Because it os so tiny and hard to read we only THINK it showed full battery. We could not find any way to keep the battery indicator lit longer. I understand they might have provided a resealable package for those neat-freaks who might want to store it there to keep it looking new, etc… I also believe that if they are sending you a previously opened/returned item there should at least be a sticker or note saying “Previously opened and returned, Fully inspected.” Also, Best Buy sells open-box items for less than new price. OR perhaps this is a good defense as to why some companies use packaging that must be practically destroyed to open it and therefore obviously opened if/when returned. We are still deciding if we should return/replace it…. Not sure if tis is Amazon’s fault or Etekcity…

Love the dual beam laser feature.
Replaced another IR thermometer with this one. I really like the dual laser feature. Also appreciate the fact that they list emissitivty conversions in the mostly so you don’t think you have an accurate measure of the temp of aluminum foil. Tested the AC voltage detector, seems to work fine.

Good for reptile enclosures 😌
Works great for checking my reptile tanks heat temps, I have internal thermometers in most my tanks and it reads about the same. I think this heat gun is more accurate so I would definitely recommend this for any other reptile lover out there. The battery has lasted me like 4 months and it’s still going.

Temp gun works fine. As advertised. Not super sure how accurate right down to the scientific level it is but if you need to have it 250 degrees it’s close enough. I use to heat paint up on a cars to 180 f and it’s accurate enough not to burn it.

Not sure how precise or accurate it is…
Pressure canner with 15 lbs pressure at a full boil is 255 degrees. The thermometer said 120 degrees at one point, 300 degrees at another. I KNOW it was hotter than 120 degrees as steam was coming out of the top. There seems no way to calibrate it if it is wrong.Water boils at 212 degrees at sea level. This thermometer said my boiling water was 95 degrees at one reading and 218 at another…How do you know what reading is accurate?

Very accurate, but arrived with dead battery.
For under $25 this infrared thermometer is a real bargain. The only flaw I found was after I removed the shrink wrap from the 9 volt battery and connected it nothing happened! I installed a new battery and it sprang to life! To test it I aimed it at the case of a tabletop scientific environmental monitor, which read a room temperature 72.4°F and got the identical temperature.I also aimed it at a light colored wall from about 10’ away, and then moved in to the most accurate distance of around 14 inches and the readings were only 0.1°F apart.I also measured several packages of frozen food in our freezer, and most of the lighter colors measured 0.0°F to 0.4°F, while a very dark package measured 3°F. The instructions recommend placing a light colored masking tape on dark, non reflective, surfaces to get an accurate measurement. The unit has a laser pointer which can be turned on and off, and a backlit display which can also be turned on and off. It also has a button to convert between °F and °COverall, I’m fully satisfied with this device. It appears to be very accurate and the construction is of sound design.

I went trigger happy using this (my first) gun.Immensely useful when building my DIY electronics project.Screen light is very useful, don’t buy a gun without it!I love the max temp reading while I sweep the laser around different components. It saved my bacon when I was surprised by a super high temp in max reading that I missed when sweeping.Only thing to note: The laser is only a rough guide. The invisible light that the gun actually uses for temp is aimed a bit BELOW where it lights. Moreso when closer to a small target. No idea about accuracy, but I’m happy with my purchase

Useful tool (and toy for bored adults)
I originally purchased this unit for use at work to check temperatures of food refrigeration units at my job. One might think that a bit extreme working for a national donut and coffee chain, but I believe in working smarter, not harder. This thermometer has really excelled at whatever I’ve thrown at it. I’ve dropped it on ceramic tile floors and kept it in my car in sub-freezing and sweltering temperatures, and never once had a problem with it. Once, a plastic trim piece popped off after dropping it, but it snapped back on perfectly and snugly.I have a probed thermocouple thermometer to be used at work; this often involves having a big curly cord sticking out of the door, allowing warmer air to enter the refrigerators and freezers while I wait for the probe to get an accurate reading. Sometimes, this would take 3-5 minutes, and I would have to keep turning the thermocouple back on several times to see if it was ready yet, all the time holding the door closed in between customers to get an accurate reading. 10 different temp readings could take 30 minutes, or more if interrupted. Using this device, and properly aiming the laser, I got readings that were almost always exactly what the thermocouple reported (either dead-on or within +/- 0.2 degrees), and those same 10 temperature readings would take 2 minutes tops (it took longer to write the numbers down and initial them than it took to actually take the temperatures!)Since then, I have also used it to check temperature of parts under the hood of my cars before I start any work, and also on ovens at work that I am about to clean to make sure I wouldn’t burn myself in the process. (Saved myself a burn in a 343-degree bagel toaster last night, as a matter of fact, although the coil of the bagel toaster is higher than the range of this thermometer.)As other users have noted, curiosity might get the better of you, and you might run around taking temperatures of everything that’s around you. I know I certainly did; holding the trigger as you sweep the laser sight around will amaze you as you see how surface temperature changes on different materials, how your AC/heating system is faring, even how much your home hot water pipes lose as they travel from your water heater/furnace.Do take note that, due to the way infrared beams bounce, certain reflective surfaces will give you faulty readings (the surface of fluids, for instance). This is by no means the most flawless method of checking temperature, it all depends on what you are actually taking the temperature of, but with a little common sense and experimentation, you’ll know how to operate this unit and get good results. The laser sight is fairly accurate, but as explained in the included documentation, how close you are to what you’re measuring makes a big difference. The display backlighting is decent, the option to turn the laser sight on or off is a nice feature, and the ability to swap between Fahrenheit and Celsius is also handy if you need it. Digits are clear and easy to read, although the tenths position is a little small for my liking. That’s just nitpicking an otherwise great device.By and large, it’s a handy little unit that will serve a variety of purposes, and before you know it, you’ll be checking the temperature of your computer CPU, the walls, the floors, the neighbor’s cat, just about everything. It’s actually a little fun to play with.

good value but battery was dead on arrival
I bought two of these as presents for friends. Thought I’d better check them out before giving them. Packaging opened easily which is a miracle these days. The first one- I removed the plastic wrap off the Chinese 9volt battery popped it on to the clip and nothing. Went and got a meter and the battery showed only 2.8volts. Additionally I had needed to use a channel lock pliers to pop the battery clip to the battery. I got a fresh Duracell battery and the unit worked just fine, and the battery connected with hand tools. The second unit was fine.
