Experience the Glo!
GloFish were originally bred to help scientists in detecting environmental pollutants. By adding a naturally derived fluorescence gene to the fish, scientists hoped to quickly and easily determine when a waterway was contaminated. Scientists soon realized the public’s interest in sharing the benefits of this research and GloFish were officially brought into the marketplace.
GloFish acquire their fluorescent color via a fluorescent protein gene that they inherit from their parents and pass on to their offspring through traditional breeding. Because of this, each line of GloFish originates from a single fish. For example, all Starfish Red Danios are descended from a single red fluorescent zebrafish.
GloFish are available in 3 species: GloFish Danio, GloFish Barb, and GloFish Tetra. Aside from their brighter disposition, each species is identical to their non-fluorescent counterparts. This includes everything from general care and temperature preferences, to growth and nutritional needs.
GloFish come in six stunning fluorescent colors including Starfire Red, Sunburst Orange, Electric Green, Cosmic Blue, Galactic Purple, and Moonrise Pink.

Worked well accenting my Alice in Wonderland Garden. Bought additional and when l start on the backyard planr to get more. I have health issues so the fact that these are smaller weight bags means l can do this on my own.

Love the glowing gravel
I have bought this item several times. I use plant soil substrate at the bottom and then cover it with this gravel. They look great and are completely neutral to the fish tank ecosystem. My cherry shrimps and Otos are flourishing with these.

Its okay
its okay, it works. The only thing I don’t like about it is there’s some really tiny pieces, so when initially rinsing, fell through my strainer and got everywhere. Also, some of the smaller pieces floated up and I was afraid my fish might try to eat them.

Pretty but more work than needed
These rocks look great in the tank BUT when you first get them you have to wash them off and drain them a couple times before they stop having small little floaters that the fish can eat. For the price though they aren’t horrible

Rinse and repeat x100
I will start with the most annoying thing about these rocks, they have to be rinsed/filtered by hand a ridiculous amount of times before they are ready for use. I rinsed in a fine mesh strainer once and put them in my tank and the next morning my beta was looking sick. I took my fish out and put him in a rescue tank while I painstakingly cleaned these rocks. Even after cleaning literally handful by handful, I put them back in tank and still found tiny rock fragments and dust floating to the top of my tank. I cleaned them again and used a paper towel to get the bits of rock debris off the top layer of water. Then I let my filter run for an entire day and tested water again before adding my beta back in. It’s been a week now and my fish is fine and the rocks look great. Just be warned about the need to rinse painstakingly to get the teeny tiny rock fragments/debris out of the rocks so your fish doesn’t get sick!

Looks good
Against my better judgement, I decided to set an empty 55 gallon tank back up. I had taken the majority of its sandy substrate out for a larger tank about a year ago and needed gravel to begin my endeavor. After browsing I liked the look of this one and decided to give it a go. I started with plain black on the bottom and topped it with the florescent ones on top. I wasn’t thinking and kind of shorted myself in my ordering so just had to order some more.I included a picture in “daylight” and one where I shut the curtains and changed the lights in the hood to the black light option so you can see the “glow”.Obviously I’m lacking fish in it because I need a few other things to arrive to finish it’s setup while it’s currently cycling the water.Anyway, the gravel does what it said it’d do, glow in the black light.

Looks great but it’s sketchy…
Idk what type of resin it is but it’s not black to it’s core. The gravel is like a black paint resin coated onto other gravel.Upon opening and using it’s always advised to wash thoroughly which I always do. With this gravel you’ll notice a lot of flakes and black resin or paint bits that float. I’m not sure how safe it is for fish. Some larger fish may pick around it looking for might and might accidentally swallow some.Looks good in some aquarium setups but is it safe?

Painted Rock
If you’re looking for a clean black rock, keep on searching. This is not the rock for you. Extremely disappointed. This is painted rock, it makes the tank look dirty. But it’s already in the tank so I’m stuck with it.

Its gravel
I actually love the color combination in this gravel I will say that we had to sip this over 8 times each and rinse it before it was clean we ended up with an entire sandwich bag full of loose gravel that we sifted out I am going to use this around my planner so I’m not mad about it however it’s just the point that we lost that much gravel I also do not like that it is painted so there are some rocks that you can tell the paint coming off I don’t know how this will last a long run we did not have anything extra in our gravel that wasn’t supposed to after rinsing it it was perfect it is really nice looking in our backlight I’m not super thrilled about the paint missing but it’s really beautiful either way I wish I could have just ordered one bag instead of being mandated to do to

The bad reviews were right!
I ordered this once before and canceled after reading a few bad reviews, but then thought the good ones out weigh the bad. I WAS WRONG! The black gravel is small and some is so small it floats to the top. The colored ones are fine. I put a couple hand fulls in and stopped. I had bought the solid white and the white with the pink, blue and other colors and they are 5 star. I have no idea why the black with the neon colors is so small. I cleaned twice in colander before using it and still little black spots everywhere. I am buying more solid white.

Mucha basura

Looks pretty but…
Black dye was coating my hands from washing it. I washed it 4-5 times but it was still happening. It has been a week since I put the fish in, and they seem quite happy so far, but it was very hard to wash.UPDATE: 2 weeks later I lost an albino pleco. The whole middle of the fish was black. Just sayin’….

This gravel is POISON. It will kill everything in your aquarium.
This gravel killed all our fish and African dwarf frog. Do not but this. Amazon should not allow this to be sold. Horrible product that poisoned our tank.We bought a 3.5 gallon tank for our 6 year old son as a birthday present. We started with 2 fish and a frog. My husband and I both had aquariums when we were single so we have experience and know how to set up a tank. We cycled the water. We had a filter, a heater, and air pump. We tested the water with the water testing kit. So the water was well prepped. Next we decorated with this gravel as my son picked it because he loved the bright colors. We also put in two decorated plants and a little cave for the frog to hide in. After this was done we put in the fish and frog. After a few hours the frog seemed be sick as he was swimming like he had a stroke. We thought we may have bought a sick frog. We returned it to the store and they let us exchange it for a new frog. We had the water tested at the pet store and they told us the water was fine so we thought it was the frog. In goes the new frog. Next morning the frog and the two fishes which were guppies were dead.So we cleaned out the tank and cycled the water again. Did everything over and went to get new fish. We got three zebras. At this point our son was pretty upset that the frog and fish were gone. We told him they were sick and we took them back to the store. The zebras all died within a day. We just couldn’t figure out what was causing the fishes to die since the water tested fine and the temperature was good. We cycled the water again and started over. This time we bought two Sebre Tetras. One of the tetras was dead in the morning. The other was still alive but seemed sick cause it was not swimming around. So we thought something in the tank must be poisoning the water. So by process of elimination we decided to take out the gravel and cycle the water again. We put the sick fish back in the tank with out the gravel. After a day the fish was all better. It was swimming and eating. So in conclusion, the gravel was poisoning the tank.DO NOT BUY THIS GRAVEL. I would give it zero stars if I could. We bought new gravel and now have three tetras including the fish that was sick and they are all doing fine with the new gravel. Amazon should not allow this product to be sold on Amazon

It’s a great product and it was easy to clean and put in my fish tank and I saw no black residue or anything. The product came early but one of the bags was broken. I haven’t got my fish into the tank yet but I’ll have to see how my fish adapt to it.

Tricky…
This is absolutely vibrant and pretty gravel to add to your fish tank. I washed many many times over 3 days but still unable to get all those powdered gravel in the bottom. Those are floating on the surface and my fish thought those were his food. My fish also got little spots on his back all the sudden so I had to treat the water. Of course, I cleaned the tank to get all of them out.

Wash and then wash some more
Nice gravel, just be sure to really clean them and then clean some more and the rinse one more time until water is clear. (Note: water isn’t cloudy due to rocks, it’s bc the wall is painted grey)

It worked , arrived as described
I knew I bought this used so I expected it to be not 100% new, so it was as expected. Helped me set up my new 10 gallon tank with this and the gravel from my old tank. It said black gravel but it had a few color gravel rocks in it. No big deal, I bought it to save money. The fish don’t mind.

Didn’t use these for an aquarium, but rather as scale rocks for my grandson’s tractor play. Note that these had very small rocks/dust, so you may want to sift it to get the small stuff out before using in an aquarium.

Good bang for the buck
I would rinse the rocks out before putting it in your tank. I just dumped it right in and a ton of small bits floated to the top. I had to take a small net to get most of the debris out. I think my fish ate a little bit of it, but seems fine so far.

RINSE, RINSE, RINSE AND RINSE SOME MORE!!!!!
The media could not be loaded.
We read the reviews about the fish dying after people put this gravel in their tanks, and made the decision to “take the chance”( I mean they look so cool with the glow “furniture” and glow fish!!) And, after all, that’s never happened in our 21 yrs of keeping tanks, both fresh and salt.Well, I still rinsed them A LOT more than I ever did any other gravel and then some more. Well, I didn’t take pics of the the dead glow fishies, but they were the casualties the next day.😢 Everyone else (non glow) were and have been just fine since. Yes, the tank was fully established prior to the gravel change. And the water tested perfect before and after they died. ????? Kinda hard to wrap my head around. That was mid May. I just added 3 glow fish day before yesterday, June 21, and everyone’s doing just fine!!😊 check my out my video!! We love the way our tank looks, would recommend with SOME BIAS, DO NOT GET IN A HURRY, RINSE RINSE RINSE RINSE AND RINSE SOME MORE LET THEM SOAK OVERNIGHT AND THEN RINSE THEM SOME MORE like over and over and over and over, you get it.I have one more bag I did not add, that I would like to put in there, but I believe the right thing to do is take the GloFish out add the rocks let it cycle for a month or two with the new rocks and then add the GloFish back. I would not put the rocks in the tank with the GloFish again. After all we don’t want to see our fishie friends go belly up, in my case again.

It’s black painted white rock
After two steps of rinsing and it was clean enough not to cloud the aquarium to any level. It is indeed black painted white rocks. I haven’t added any fish yet, hopefully paint wont affect the fish’s health. Looks good enough for my 2 gallon aquarium I bought from amazon.

Truly….WATCH USING THIS.
My daughter had an established tank of a month without any gravel or substrate. I bought this without really doing much looking through the reviews. However….knowing from my own fish tank operations long ago….I know you can’t just toss everything in…..it is a delicate ecosystem within your tank.So I followed instructions found on a website and absolutely…..spent about an hour washing the gravel over and over and over and over…..water in, water out, through a sifter. Even after this….a slimy residue persisted at the top. So I kept going….and then I treated the rocks (with water) with the dechlorinator several times (letting it soak in for a time each time)…..and rinsed again and again…and again. End all….we washed this stuff so much….that I think it was okay as the water went from filmy to clear…maybe a speck or two left that we fished out. We also let the filter run for 2 hours….I don’t how important this and the water treatment was (this was a change….that turned into a project). Her betta seems fine so far….but the residue amounts….it’s just not worth the price you pay to have to do that much work just to chance the life of your fish. It’s cheap, sure, but you’re gonna have to wash A LOT to make it okay…and even then…it might not be okay. I’m giving it 3 stars because….aside from my washing it a bunch….it worked as intended and thus far hasn’t killed the fish. The residue levels is concerning….do not skip washing it immensely….you will kill your fish. Next time, will likely not be using any colored/painted rocks just to avoid the entire issue. Also…it’s a 5 lb bag….this will cover a 5 gallon tank. Lbs should equal, typically, gallons in your tank.Update to my kid’s tank: the fish is doing fine and we have not seen any struggles. I still believe you need to wash this for a couple hours, treating the water occasionally…..and rinsing…..and doing it quite a few times. So it worked okay….the fish is okay….but I would definitely say our success was account doing the work to make sure the sediment was washed and filtered.

I recently bought a beta fish named blueberry, he has been our pet for three months. One day I walked by the fish tank, and he did not notice me. I was furious! Pictures does no justice
For my 55 gallon tank I got away with 45 pounds of gravel, all from this seller. I bought 3 bags of black gravel with neon colors, 1 bag of just neon color gravel, 2 bags of black and white gravel, and 3 bags of just black gravel and mixed them all in the bottom of the tank. With each bag being 5 pounds, this came out To 45 pounds, I found online that it’s recommended to have 1-2 pounds per gallon but that would have been up to 110 pounds of gravel and this is some of the most reasonable, attractive gravel I found so this was around $50 on gravel when it could have been around $300-400 as I was finding 1 pound bags elsewhere to be $7-8 each but got these 5 pound bags for $3-5 each. I didn’t want too much neon (glow in the dark) gravel because I knew I also wanted glow in the dark accessories and fish and didn’t want to over do it but the picture does it no justice. It’s much more glow in the dark than picture will allow under blue light. There are 2 floating fake jellyfish that are also glow in the dark but you can’t really see because of glare from blue light but trust me, it’s beautiful. I bought 45 pounds just to start with and planned on buying more but this is the perfect amount! I just emptied each bag 1 at a time into a bowl and rinsed and drained twice with no problems

I bought two 5lb bags for my 10 gallon tank. I wanted this color specially because it was subtle enough to not take away attention from the fish, but also cool looking when under a black/blue light. In the video, I showed what the gravel looks like under the Glofish lights in each of the settings. (White and blue lights, blue lights, black lights, and twilight)

Bad reviews? Updated review
I’m not sure why all the bad reviews on this gravel. I’ve had it in my aquarium for 2 years with NO problems at all. Maybe the reviews are for a different product but I’m totally happy with it. I’m updating this review because of the ordering process. So the minimum you can buy is 2 bags but the max is 3 ! Really is there a nationwide shortage of glo fish gravel? I have a 40 gallon aquarium and need 8 bags but you won’t let me buy that many and won’t let me reorder more…seriously. So you want me to shop elsewhere OK. Sorry but this is just plain stupid!!
