    Great for parrots

Love these cloth perches. I can bend to fit where it’s needed. Different perch material and sizes are important for your bird’s foot comfort. My caique love stampeding over them to his water bowl and other perches. A great material for him to chew, too. I go through them about twice a year…he is worth it.

Cap missing on two separate orders.

I ordered one and it came with one cap missing. Ordered it again and it came again with one missing. You cannot install without the caps and the manufacturer will NOT help when you call. They refer you to Amazon. My initial order back in early January never showed up.

Droops a bit but my bird LOVES this perch!

I love how much my bird enjoys this perch, I think, other than her food bowl, this is her favorite place to sit or sleep. LolIt does droop a bit as it’s not quite sturdy enough to stay parallel to the bottom of the cage. But that doesn’t seem to bother my poppy-girl!It was very easy to install and I would definitely recommend it!

Wrap these with vet wrap for bird safety

I got one large and two small of these rope perches for my budgie (parakeet) who now has a disabled leg. He needs a way to climb more since his landing skills aren’t as good, and I wanted to provide a softer surface for his good leg since it’s getting most of the pressure now. I installed the two smaller rope perches in a half circle around his food and water dishes so he has an easy landing/perching surface for eating and drinking. The long rope perch runs from the bottom of the left side of the cage up to the top of the right side, and it’s not a small cage. He also has several wood perches and a couple of platforms to choose from. I see him sitting on the long rope perch quite often. The most important thing with rope perches for any bird is to wrap them with vet wrap. When they’re brand new they’re fine, but with wear and tear, especially if your bird chews on them, strings will start to come loose. These strings can wrap around a toe, leg, or even a neck, trapping your bird and causing injury or death. There have been many cases of birds ingesting the rope fibers after chewing on the rope perch—this will cause an expensive vet bill, as the fibers get impacted in the bird’s crop, requiring surgery, or the bird will die. By wrapping the perch in vet wrap you protect your bird from these loose strings. If your bird is an avid chewer, like my caique, vet wrap may not be enough and a rope perch may not be the best choice. For birds like my budgie though, who doesn’t chew very much, it can be made to be very safe. Now onto the quality of the rope perch. I’ve owned a few rope perches in the past. This brand seems to be just as good of quality as any others I’ve owned. They were easy to install, even with my hands being not all that strong. I love that they’re bendable and they will hold whatever shape you put them in. They are hard to clean, but again if you wrap them in vet wrap, the vet wrap is somewhat easier to clean and you can just remove it and rewrap when they get too dirty. Overall they seem pretty durable and I expect them to last a long time.

    Worked great.

Bought this to use as a perch porch for my budgies.I placed one side inside the cage, the other ouy and attached it. So they had a perch to follow thier first time out of the cage.Worked like a charm. Before I did the porch I placed it inside the cage so they can get used to it. They loved it and perfer it over thier other perches.

I have 2 Budgies. I wanted to add some excitement to their cage. This perch is great! It took them a couple days before they’d use it, but now they are on it all the time. Super easy to install.

These are the good cotton quality rope perches

These are sturdy, cotton not synthetic plastic, very stiff but e bounce, easy to scrub/ wash in sink. The cage attachments are great, nothing sharp, easy to wash. I took these for granted until I bought another brand which showed up smaller than advertised and worse: shiny plastic nylon Not cotton. Going back to this company!! These are also the best price point I have found.

    Excellent perch, However….

It was very difficult to get my cockatiels to like it. At first, they were absolutely terrified of it. I don’t know if they thought it was a snake, despite never having seen one, or if they thought it was a sentient set of nunchucks. They’ve never seen me doing my ninja work so I don’t think they would even know how nunchucks work. After putting it in their cage, every time I tried to put one of them on it, they would tremble in fear before helplessly flailing around the cage trying to fly away from the danger. It’s the first multi-colored item I’ve ever given them so it’s quite possible they thought they were trippin on something wicked, I really don’t know. After a few more unsuccessful attempts to get them on it, like putting them there in the dark (and then turning on the lights) and holding them with my hand wrapped around them like a straight jacket, the results were still the same. So I threw the thing around my neck like a scarf and them had them hop on my shoulders. They were suddenly totally unaware that the perch rope and the cause of so much fright were one and the same. I placed the perch back into the cage, with them watching from my shoulders, crests steady as a brick wall and eyes wide open with fear, but in a different position, at the top of the cage. I then placed them at the bottom and after a few minutes of not wanting to move, they accepted their new lives as floor dwelling birds and just figured they’d avoid going up for food and water, now accessible only by close proximity of the rope perch. After hours of incessant chirping that afternoon, I realized they weren’t going to stop until I gave them food on the floor, so I grabbed them both and set them on the rope perch one last time, securing them tightly. After that scared them into silence, I set them back on the floor and left them there. To my surprise next morning, the young one was on his new perch quietly, as if he totally forgot how much fear it caused him. The other one, the 13 year old, still didn’t want any part of the new perch and just kept at a distance. I grabbed him and placed him on it, next to his little brother, and he learned to not try and fly away from it. Instead, he just spent the next hour or so in frozen fear, not moving at all. Eventually, he began to trust it, and now, a month later, is completely happy with it.

I don’t know what diameter PVC tube he used but it fit perfect, and very snug and safe

Husband made a Tabletop Stand using this Booda Perch, He just unscrewed the caps on each end of the perch and stuck each end into a lenght of PVC tubing. I don’t know what diameter PVC tube he used but it fit perfect, and very snug and safe. I didn’t want him to use any type of glue or cement for the bird stand being afraid it may harm my parrot so i’m glad the ends fit in perfectly. The Booda Comfy Perch gives my parrot something to chew on while he’s on it. Its very tighly woven so it takes a long time for my African Grey parrot to chew all the way through it. If he starts chewing on the very end parts of the Booda Perch i just cover the end using an empty cardboard toilet paper roll. I cut it in half so i have 2 short pieces, then i slit it open and wrap it around the frayed edge of the Booda where he was chewing. i tape the cardboard paper roll closed and Voila!. Now the cardboard toilet paper roll covers the edge of the Booda. You could probably use and empty paper towel roll also. Anyway, he watched YouTube and made the rest of the tabletop stand cutting and using some more PVC and now i have a very inexpensive stand for my parrot that fits on top of a TV Tray stand. I think the Booda perch is better for my parrots feet. He can grip it with his toes without slipping and falling like on a slippery wood perch. He loves his Booda Perch LOL! My husband did have to change to longer pieces of PVC to make it a little higher because my bird would hang upside down on his Perch and then Stretch his neck way out towards the bottom (i just set the stand on newspapers), then do a kinda flip and land on the TV stand. LOL. but then he starts chewing up the newspaper making a mess! Thats why we made it a little higher up so now he can’t get down. I was worried about it being too high and possibly tipping but it doesn’t. My husband said if it did he would just fill up the PVC around the bottom with sand to weight it down.. Anyway, thanks to Booda my parrot has a safe place to stand out of his cage. hmmmm maybe i should put one IN his cage too!….

If the ends were more flexible it’d be perfect

My small bird likes this. It is a very tightly bound rope. It has screw-on type ends to hold onto the cage. It will only work well on a cage with bars. They can be horizontal or vertical, but you might find yourself needing to bend the product in different ways. I only give it 4 stars because sometimes it can be a pain to line up the ends exactly so that they go on the bar. The ends have to fit over the bar of the cage before you can screw on the end to keep it in place. So, I have to do a lot of bending to make it go exactly how I want. I wish the ends/grips were a little more flexible…Maybe an X type of grip instead of just the | type line. It is still a very nice rope though, I don’t have to worry about it loosening like some of the other ropes I have given to my bird.I’ve provided three pictures of what I’m referring to about the end not being super flexible. It has to be turned that exact way, on both sides to fit. Note that this probably won’t work for cages that have small squares, like chicken-wire, or anything similar.End problems aside, I like it, it’s very sturdy and tightly bound.

Highly reccomend -Last forever- if you have a CAG like me, perfect as they will chew a ladder up in no time,

Having an amazon grey, he chews on all wood things. He has cute ladders (expensive) to get to his food and to climb and play on. He chewed them up and they looked really tacky. I bought him a large one and put it outside his cage it’s one of his favorite spots. When he chewed the wood ladders he had to get to his food, I thought of this and as they come in all sizes I bought two in ones. Each goes around each dish in his big cage perfectly and he can get to his food better also. The big one is soon to be replaced as it’s getting dull in color, maybe I just have to wash it, I will try that first. I will never buy another wood perch ever again, not for this type of bird. he has 3 different types of perch’s, (good for his feet) These are great he can sit outside his cage on these and gives him more options. HINT: I went to dollar store and got some plastic place mats. I put then on the floor under his perchs outside his cage, easily to wash in sink and the floor (thank god it’s wood) it’s much less work to clean. Took me a year to figure this out. Now YOU know 🙂

Our birds are so much happier with their new rope perches!

Our cockatiels and green cheek conures love their new rope perches and these are the perfect size for them. After we bought the small and medium size, we had to buy more since the birds only wanted to sit on the rope. So now we have replaced all the perches in their cage to these wonderful rope perches. The birds are happier, and they look very comfortable. The rope perch gives them a better grip when they are sleeping. The conures started doing acrobats on the rope, hanging upside down with one foot, just darling! So, our cockatiels started copying them and they hang upside down with both feet, then flap their wings.Installing the rope perch was super easy and we were able to create assorted styles for them by twisting and bending the rope. This way they are not just straight across like the wooden perches. It looks nice this way too. The birds are much happier since we made the switch and we could not be happier.Very happy with this purchase. Excellent quality rope, sturdy yet soft enough for their feet. Would recommend this rope perch to my fellow bird owners.

    Awesome quality for price

For the price, these perches are fantastic quality. Seem well made and my boy loves running along it while doing acrobatics inside his cage. The small size is just right for green cheek conure feet, and this one is his usual choice for excitedly bobbing for attention cos he can grip it super well (and I assume it bounces a little for extra fun–lol.) He likes to wipe his beak on it and gnaw sometimes but the first I bought shows zero signs of wear after a month. I just bought a second one and will probably grab a few more as his playground area continues to expand and take over my apartment! All rope perches/toys are a safety hazard, especially if your bird is an aggressive shredder; check them regularly for loose threads and trim them or replace the whole thing as necessary. They are, however, great to add to the variety of standing surfaces you offer your birds to keep their feet healthy, so maybe just install them outside their cage if you’re concerned.

My parrot loves these and I love the flexibility — lots of ways to vary exercise for your bird

My Senegal has always loved these rope perches — they are easy for him to grab onto because he can use his talons for grip. They aren’t slippery like some wood perches can be. Also, these are very flexible so you can mold them to different shapes. I have one attached to his play gym and it connects the bottom part to the top — he uses it like a ladder because he likes to grab food from his bowl and then take it to a higher perch to eat. That’s probably because he has a better chance of making a mess from higher up.These last a long time and I’ve never had to replace one — I just keep getting more. They offer the opportunity to change things up in his cage and play gym and give him different places to climb. I take them down every month or so and soak them in hot soapy water to clean them and they last for years. He doesn’t chew on them (about the only thing he doesn’t chew on) so I like that.

    Useful; adds variety without clutter.

Glad I got this. I wanted to add more variety to the size and kind of perches for my finches, without cluttering up the cage. This is perfect on both counts: all the other perches I have for them are different kind of hard surface materials. They do seem to like having this to opt for as well. And because it’s flexible, I was able to curve it round to make a nice “water cooler” site for them to hang out on: I’ve got it around a pair of waterers. It also has the virtue of being able to be used in more ways than a horizontal perch. So now that I see they like it, I might try it as a twist in a more vertical arrangement and see if they get interested in that. They’re not great on too much change, though, so I keep it low key – and always remove immediately anything they react with alarm to.Super easy for one person to install too because it’s fairly light, unlike some perches where you have to reach around or over the cage to secure it while holding it in place with your other hand – without causing everyone inside to freak out!

The perch of choice in my house…

It’s important to get your bird several perches in different sizes and textures, but even though I do that, my birds prefer Booda Comfy Perches to all others. I make sure I use one of these for the “sleeping perch” with every new cage configuration. They come in enough sizes and lengths that you can do quite a lot with them in pretty much any size of cage.Because these perches are rope, be sure to keep a close eye on the wear and tear, and trim any loose strings. It’s easy for a bird to get a toe caught, and if you don’t maintain it properly, you could come home to something really unpleasant. One of my birds NEVER tears up the perch at all, and hers all look brand new other than the occasional spot where she wiped her beak recently. The other enjoys shredding her perches, so they get trimmed and replaced a lot.The only downside to these perches is that they’re not as easy to clean as stone or plastic perches. I usually wash mine in the sink or dishwasher with hot water and no detergent. The washing machine sanitize cycle (again, no detergent) will do the trick, too, but you’ll probably want to throw in some towels to help with the noise.

    Nice addition to your cage!

I adopted my cockatoo from someone who kept him in a too-small cage. I ended up buying a large cage and needed perches to fit the cage. This rope perch is amazing. It’s long so you can twist it around to make curves and dips in the perch. Adding it to the cage is fast with the end caps — holds well too! I was able to adapt it to fit with several other naturaL perches in his cage.I was surprised how well this rope holds the weight of my cockatoo. It just doesn’t dip from his weight as I expected.Prior to getting this perch, I would find my cockatoo clinging to the side of the cage in the morning — it appeared he had not been sleeping on his perchs. Since I have installed these perches I find him in,them every morning sitting contently on these rope perches. I have now had these perches in his cage for four months and they are holding up very well – easy to clean up and he doesn’t seem to have any interest in chewing them up.Highly recommend as an addition to natural perches.

    Great perches

I’ve gotten about 8 of these to replace old ones I have and only 1 I wasn’t happy about so I knocked off a star. I got one that has been used before, there was food caked onto it so I might have to return it. And one of them was a little frayed but I was about to trim it. The other ones have been great though. My birds love these perches since they’re so comfortable for their feet’s. I like to use a couple of these and natural wood perches in my cages to give their feet a break and to exercise their feet well.I’d like to note for new bird owners: You have to make sure once you notice your bird has been chewing on it you need to take it out. Because the fibers can get stuck in their crop and cause impaction which will eventually lead to death. Look it up. Even the surgery to get it out of the crop is iffy on such a small body, some birds can’t handle it. So just check it everyday and make sure it isn’t frayed.

Good perch although it could be better

It was pretty OK perch , although I noticed it started sagging down after few days because it was not strong enough. I ended up switching it for another rope perch which has metal rod inside. I think this color perch would be great if it would have similar metal rod inside , without it like I say the perch was slowly reshaping . although my budgies are not so heavy . I may still hang it one day but not as I wanted as long one going across the cage but perhaps in some different crazy way . We will see .

    my parakeets’ favorite perch

I think this product is probably one of the best simple-invention that the pet bird industry has ever made. you can install it in any cage, make it into any shape, and most of all, my three parakeets really really love it. When I installed it into their cage, they all jumped on within one minute (which is very unusual for them), and decided that this is their favorite perch ever since. I was astonished. Apparently the size and the material is very comfortable for them. I had a few other nice perches installed outside of their cage and they used to love come out and sit on them. Ever since I got this new perch for them, they barely even go out anymore. Just stays on it all the time. I’d say the perch is steady enough for small birds even if you have 3-4 sits on it at same time. Not easy to clean, but it’s no issue for me because my birds never pooped on it.

    Grest!

The media could not be loaded.

My budgies love this perch. Some reviews say that their budgie eats it, and if ur bird does you should not get it again but my birds are content chewing on their other perches and toys. My birds spend a lot of their time on this perch and they seem to like it. Overall great perch. Its flexible and it is easy to clean by soaking and scrubbing with hot water. The lime green budgie in the pictures and video loves sitting there and waiting for me to open the cage door. The darker one in the back doesnt sit on that perch as often. Very easy to twist the perch into place, as demonstrated in videos. Sturdy enough to hold the little wooden bridge and both of my budgies.

    JW makes great products!

I chose this particular flexible, comfy perch for my little bird because it was made by JW. I have purchased several of their products in recent weeks and have been very happy with each one of them. They are all easy to install with large plastic screws (which is important for my nerve-damaged hands), they are all made with quality material and workmanship. This perch was no exception. It is sturdy, flexible, no loose strings, and my parakeet, who is a scaredy-bird when it comes to anything new in his cage, warmed up to it fairly quickly and is now enjoying it. Thanks JW for making quality products.

    Who *doesn’t* love a Booda perch…? 😉

    – The Eclectus who owns me 😉 loves these! I like the 32″ ones because they’re long enough for me to bend them and give her an easy way to climb down to the floor from her “house” and from her playpen to the floor – she quickly learned how to go back and forth, or to climb down and come over to me 😀 My mobility is not good, so these let her go where she wants, while I can still **of course** keep an eye on her. – They are very tightly-wound, so they don’t fray, yet still offer her an excellent surface to grip and climb – and, of course, hang upside-down from. The thickness is perfect ((the smaller sizes were also well-proportioned for the smaller birds who shared my living-space in the past)), and they are non-slip yet gentle on her feet. The end-caps are fairly resilient – I’ve never had one break. They also seem to resist demolition, at least Eclectus-scale demolition 😉 – They last well because she actually doesn’t chew them, possibly because she has lots of other wood and rope etc. things to chew, and at least surface-washable ((they have a wire in the center and I don’t know whether it’s rust-resistant)). – All in all, one of those “simple” things that is great 😉

Diameter of perches isn’t what I expected

I ordered two of these in size medium and 32” long. They appear well made, exactly what I remember from working in a pet store and stocking them. I had a really hard time trying figure the right diameter for my African grey and Amazon parrots. The dimensions provided in the description give a length width and height. Now that I have them I can see that that’s the size of the PACKAGED product. The cardboard holder is 1 5/8 inches wide. The folded perch is about the size listed for length and the third dimension is the length across the two halves of the perch when it’s folded for display. I scanned all the comments trying to find mention of the diameter, but there wasn’t much to go on since reviews for multiple sizes are mixed together and the manufacturer provided NO detail for this important measure. So the medium perch turns out to be 3/4” diameter, about right for a conure, Senegal, or Quaker. I’m sending these back and ordering larges. I’m guessing there is no cockatoo/macaw size and the small is meant for parakeets or finches? Four stars because the quality and price are good, that’s why I’ll try the next size and hope it’s suitable.

Completely Changed my Relationship with My Bird

Okay, this perch completely and totally changed my relationship with my bird, for the better. When we first got Conner the Conure (a green cheek conure with the pineapple mutation), he was a sweet bird, but he was a little nippy and very independent. He liked tickles on his head and neck, but when he was done and had enough, he’d bite with no warning. He wasn’t a cuddler or anything like that either. This was hard for me, since all the birds I’ve had when growing up were all very cuddly and sweet. In fact, all birds I’ve known are cuddly sweet like that, at least some of the time.I loved Conner (my conure), and he was fun and full of personality, but he just wasn’t very ‘friendly’ over all. He wouldn’t stay sitting on my shoulder (or anyone’s) for very long, wouldn’t let us tickle his neck for long, nothing. Affection was available, but only in short bouts before he’d bite and then fly back to his cage. Then I bought this perch for him. and I put it on the outside of his cage, so that he hung over my shoulder while I sat in the recliner and did my routine. I work from home, and usually sit in my recliner when I’m working, and now, his cage beside me, I’d let him out and work. This rope perch was right over my shoulder the whole time I was working. I’d basically ignore him, and he’d eventually come down and walk out on the perch and sit over my shoulder. He say, “Watcha doing?” and I’d talk to him. He liked to watch my computer screen (especially when I played Candy Crush, with all the bright colors–but you know, I was, ahem, usually working!)And in just a couple of weeks, he went from a standoffish independent birdie who didn’t interact much with us, to a bird who came straight to his rope perch the minute I let him out. So I started rubbing his neck and scratching his pinfeathers when he was on the perch and he would come and sit as close to me as he could while on the perch. In just a couple of more weeks, he was leaning against my head when he would get tired and was sleeping on me like that.Today, he sleeps in my hand, cuddles with me all the time, comes and lays in my hand if I put it up on the perch next to him. He gives kisses and asks for tickle-tickles on his neck. He hasn’t bitten anyone in months and months now.Using this perch to let him be close to me, but not actually feel trapped by me, let him get used to being around me, and slowly, we learned how to interact with each other. I can now literally turn him upside down in my hand, cuddle with him on my chest or under my hair, you name it. He’s the sweetest, funniest bird. And his rope perch is still right there on his cage and he sits on it right by me all day long while I’m working. I plan to get a couple more of these so I can put some perches up in the bathroom. I want to see if he can get used to taking a shower with me now. I’ve heard birds like that, sometimes, because it’s like bathing in the rain for them. We’ll see if it works. Also, I thin his little feet like the softer surface of the rope perch as a change for the little talons sometimes. The rope is stiff but wiggly enough to position however you want. it’s held up well. I do have to turn it over every now and then, ’cause it will start to droop downward at the part near the connectors, but flipping it over will fix that right up, until it starts to droop again, then just flip it again. I like that I can grab it and bend it up or down so he can reach things, pull it closer to me or push it back toward the cage. It’s also very easy to remove it and reposition it elsewhere on the cage if I need to.A good, quality product and very safe for birdies and works great with the cage. Note: This doesn’t have the suction cups for using on walls or glass/windows/mirrors. This has a plastic screw on connector that’s mostly made for connecting inside cages.UPDATE: Purchased the large version for my G2, and he likes it a lot too. I use it the same way. Only difference between the two is that the G2 is chewing up the rope part and it’s all frayed where he’s done that, but so far, he hasn’t even come close to chewing through it or anything–just some frays, and that doesn’t hurt anything at all.

50/50 if it will work for you depends on your bird and if they are a chewer of EVERYTHING

One parrot destroys it at the place it attaches to the plastic INSIDE the cage, the other parrot uses as intended. So one lasts for YEARS, the other, maybe a month or more if I’m lucky, or creative in hiding the ends. Product is good, nice and soft for their feet, one bird is spicy. Difficult to clean, so keeping out of a “poop drop zone” is best, though it happens. Best case, let the poop 100% dry then scrape off, or you’ll be rubbing it into the rope and it’s in their forever (lesson learned over 22 years.)

    Wonderful soft and pliable perch

My lovebird loved the smaller one of these I had for him so when I purchased a larger cage I bought him this 32″ one as well. He uses them all the time, and as they are wired inside, you can bend them into the shape you require for more functionality. This is the only perch my bird will hold onto as well (he is a bit on the elderly side) and grip tightly and flap his wings to exercise his wings. He even hangs onto it upside down. He loves it as I’m taking that as an endorsement and I therefore can easily recommend this product.UPDATE: This week one side of the rope pulled right out of it’s plastic attachment that attaches to the side of the cage. I have therefore dropped this from 5 stars to 4, as I had to go out and buy some gel superglue in order to the glue the rope back into the plastic fastener. I was not very happy about this as it is still quite new, and a lovebird is simply not very heavy and this particular one is not a chewer. Seems a bit shoddy workmanship. I still recommend, but you may find you may have to glue it back together as I did.In order to advance my crusade to improve bird nutrition and health I wanted to include here a recipe for a fresh diet that a breeder I highly respect gave me (Thank you Angela) just to offer some advice to keep our pet birds healthier – it is not at all related this the product I have reviewed here but it could very well give you some great ideas to get fresh fruits and vegetables into your bird. All domestic birds, especially parrots, lovebirds, parrotlets, parakeets, canaries, finches, conures, etc, should have fresh fruit and vegetables and they can present a challenge to get them to eat them. Gives this recipe a try Here’s a recipe that I make and it took some time for them to get used to it, but now my lovebirds and my parrotlets both eat this when provided. I give it in the morning and remove uneaten food in the evening.1 apple cored and chopped1/2 Cup chopped raw broccoli1 Chopped bell pepper seed included2 shredded carrots1/2 Cup chopped greens (bok choy, mustard greens, kale and/or chard)1/4 Cup frozen corn (can be eliminated if you put slices of raw corn on the cob in treat holders/clips in your cage – all my birds LOVE it and I have had 100% success getting them to eat this)1/4 Cup frozen peas1/2 Cup cooked rice (brown or GABA brown rice)1/2 Cup cooked dried beans (they will need to be soaked overnight for 8 hours)A handful of blueberries, chopped cherries and chopped seedless grapesMix all ingredients together in a large bowl. Place ingredients in an ice cube tray and freeze. Remove frozen cubes and place in plastic bags to store in freezer. Then you can take out the perfect portion on a daily basis . They say 1 cube per bird but you may find that 1 cube will work well for a pair of birds of if smaller birds, even more. Instead of an ice cube tray I use slider freezer bags and press them flat after I fill them with enough of the mixture which makes freezer storage easy and this way I can easily break off appropriate sized pieces. This recipe is variable and you can switch out or add/delete ingredients that you have on hand or what you know your birds already like. This recipe is in ADDITION to their regular diet of pellets and seeds and not a substitute.

Fun, but can have a slight danger

These are nice, comfy perches that are good for the birds and their feets…comfy feets are important to birdies! These perches put a lot less pressure on the feet when birds stand on them, and that prevents callouses from forming. My goffin’s cockatoo, a rescue, has callouses on the bottom of his feet from his home before he was rescued. The soft perches made from rope are a great solution to help heal those feet and prevent it from happening again, of course, along with a variety of sizes and shapes of perches too. They do have a tendency to chew on the strings of the larger ones and pull them out and unravel the string. Also, my cockatoo can unscrew them, no matter how tightly I screw them in, and then he breaks the plastic prongs on the inside. Right now, we have put duct tape over the ends so he can’t get to them, because duct tape is hard to chew off because of the cloth/string inside it. It’s working for now.My conure (as shown in the picture, absolutely loves rope perches. But as you can see, he also loves to chew on them. So I only let the birds use the rope perches on the outside of their cages, so I’m always supervising when they use them, for fear they might get their feet or beak stuck in the loose ropes they chew on. Note this isn’t really a flaw in the manufacturering of the product–it’s just a bird thing! The rope perches are well made. Now, the plastic screw holders, that’s a bit different. Macaws and cockatoos in particular, who have the more powerful beaks, could easily snap these tops quite easily. I don’t know if metal ones would be an improvement, but they’d have to be the right kind of screw tops if they were metal anyway. My cockatoo did break one…That said, these perches are absolutely my conure’s favorite–he loves them, and I have them all over the outside of his cage to play with. And if you get the longer ones, you can twist the and curve them and put them in all sorts of configurations for birds to play and climb on.I’ll keep buying in all different sizes and shapes and making lots of fun toys and perches for my four birds!

Best perches for parrots of all types

I’ve been using rope perches for my parrots for over 20 years. These are great (could be a LITTLE stiffer/sturdier) and easy to install with the plastic caps. They are best cleaned with warm water and a rough cloth or remove them and use a dish brush after soaking. It does not affect or damage the rope, in fact it makes it tighter/stiffer after drying so that’s a double bonus. These are good value for the money.

    Perfect Perches

Edited to Add:While my first one of these has held up for years, my second was just not as high quality. It never bent and flexed as easily, and a couple days ago, when I returned it to the cage after cleaning, one of the plastic caps broke off. I might try hot-gluing it back on, but I was pretty disappointed! It’s a very different product than the previous one, and I’ve even tried to remember the packaging, wondering if it might not have been JW brand this time.Original Review:I’ve got a couple of these that I’ve used over the years with my parakeets. When new, they’re a little tricky to bend just right, but other than that one small thing, they’re perfect. My birds climb up and down them, even if I bend a section vertically. They’re soft but super durable, at least with small birds, so mine have never begun to fray in any way. I still keep a close eye, because loose strings are a risk to birds. I like that the textured weave also prevents bumble foot. I don’t use any dowel perches, just to be on the safe side– these, natural branch perches, and one textured concrete perch they like to nibble. To clean these ones, I normally use a bit of diluted dish soap and a toothbrush, then give them a thorough rinse and dry with a towel. A couple times a year, though, I actually rinse any droppings of them throw them in with a load of laundry on hot. I place them near the dehumidifier to be sure they’re good and dry. Works great! Lets me know they’re sanitary.

    My budgie loves it!

This product was great, but because I’m a fairly new budgie owner, on the first few days my stressed bird mostly ignored it. But once she finally discovered it, she spent most of her time preening and perching on it. My budgie absolutely loves this product and I’m glad I got it. I’ve had it for a few weeks and it hasn’t frayed even a little bit, which is a good sign, at least for me. If you’re looking for an easy-to-install comfy rope perch for your bird, this is the product for you. It obviously isn’t that sturdy to the human hand, but it’s not like I was planning on perching on it anyway, so it’s fine with me.As I said, if you’re looking for a comfy rope perch for your parakeet, this is one of the best options for you. Have a great day, and I hope this helped!!

My afraid of everything parrot loves the perches. The product was delivered on time and wrapped minimalistically. Parrot loves to chew on the rope perches so that they are no more. Expensive, yet this brand doesn’t have metal in the middle of the rope. Therefore, this brand is the safest for him. JW is metal free! Yay! I just found out from an aviary. So my birdy budget is a bit healthier. I was replacing them faster than needed. Good quality and sturdy. Easy to install.

Comfortable for parrots with bad feet

My parrot has a bad foot so finding comfortable perches is difficult. He really likes this one. And his balance is better than on a wooden perch. I got the large so his toes can spread out. It’s very sturdy and once attached, it does not move. He can sit in comfort and look out the window. He did not like platform perches even though I have left one in. And I rigged up a grass-like mat underneath his perches so if he loses his balance, he lands softly. He hasn’t lost his balance on this perch. I’ll be getting more.

    Budgies Love It

This is by far their favorite perch. They don’t seem too enticed by the natural wood perches anymore; I think it’s largely because it gives them more variety in grip size. The rope itself is a bit hard to clean, but aside from that, there is no tearing after about a year and a half of use. I wouldn’t give this to anything larger than a cockatiel, not due to the size of the rope, but because it would be easier for a larger bird to tear the rope apart and eat the fibers (impaction is not fun!!)

    Cockatiel agrees these are comfy

We bought this for a recent road trip we took with our cockatiel, thought he might be more comfortable on this perch as opposed to the wooden perch that came with his travel cage. We knew he would like it, we have the same perch in the longer size in his regular cage and he really likes it, though it took him some time to get used to it. He was comfortable with this one right away. After using it for our trip I added it to his regular cage, found him sleeping on it when I woke up this morning. If your bird has sharp nails like ours, the perch will start to fray with time, our original one is starting to look a little ragged in spots but we’ve had it over a year and I just flipped it so the less worn side is facing up so I expect it’ll last a while before we need to replace it. We like to give our bird a variety of perches for his cage and these are a nice addition to the traditional round wooden perches and the natural wood perches we also have

Excellent and versatile purchase for my parakeets

I’ve bought a few of these in different sizes and find them to be one of the best purchases I’ve made for my parakeets. The quality is fantastic (as are most things from this brand I’ve found), but the versatility is what really has me sold on them. You can coil them on top of the cage for a fun looping perch, twist them into countless formations inside, place them straight to creating a long perch connecting two cages, or place them in a vertical or horizontal line outside the cage for perching or climbing. There really are countless ways to configure them and I’ve found the ends are easy to secure and remove, so cleaning or repositioning is a breeze. All in all, for about the same price as traditional perches, you definitely can’t go wrong. Not only will these let you decide how and where they should fit, they’ll be a much more fun and interesting addition for your feathery friends than a plain perch.

    size confusing

I just ordered small 21″ comfy perch for my parakeets. It fits the cage and the birds can grasp it comfortably and they love it. Now they will be happy to have a nicer sleep, although the plastic perch coming with the cage is not bad. I felt lucky that I ordered the right size. The size on the website is lacking information and somewhat confusing. First, the perch is categorized in thickness, which is small, med, and large. According to my research on the internet, Small is 1/2 inch diameter, Medium is 3/4 inch diameter, and Large is 1 inch diameter. But my small one is actually 5/8 inch diameter, so I guess the actual diameter is 1/8 inch larger for all the three thickness categories. You should determine the right diameter perch based on your pet species. For the length, you need to choose based on cage size. These perches are bendable although a little hard. You can set perch to cross the cage from one side to the opposite side or to the adjacent side. Ignore the other size like Large 2″H x 7″W x 18.5″D which doesn’t make sense. In one word, determine “Small” or “Medium” or “Large” and then choose the length. The perch deserves 5 star rating, but the website lacking of size info takes 1 star off.

not 32 inches of perch-able space + not very sturdy!!

Not always but usually you get what you pay for. Unfortunately, this perch is five dollars less than a competitors similar perch. But this one is much more than five dollars less sturdy!! It definitely sags from the get-goEqually important: The medium size’s “32” inches – is ambiguously stated! Reading the description again, you see it says but“measures” 32 inches. What it doesn’t clearly state is that at least 4 of those inches are not perch inches! Rather, only about 28 inches is actual / usable/perching area.In the future we will spend more for a sturdier and better-quality perch. JW charges less; and sure enough: you get a lot less quality.

    My cockatiel loves it

My cockatiel loves these perches. They are a fun addition to his cage, and he likes to pick at the threads. They are versatile and can be placed in the cage easily. Just be sure and also have other perches, some made of wood with different diameters.

    Cockatiel loves them!

Purchased several of these for my cockatiel’s play center and he just loves them. Because these are bendable and can keep just about any shape you put them in, the bird’s can get anywhere in the play center or cage via these perches. Also easy on it’s feet. One thing I should mention, originally I ordered a long perch and didn’t really notice the size preference that goes along with the length preference, so while the first one I ordered was long, it was also very thick. Probably for a much larger bird. Finally figured out that you can order a long one (I have several 32″ now) but this time ordered the “small” size, the width is now perfect for my cockatiel. In other words, make sure when ordering that you not only look at the length, but also the size (small, medium or large) so it corresponds with the size of your bird. Again, the small was perfect for my cockatiel.

Bird loves it! But plastic notched ends can break.

We have two of these in our parakeet’s cage. Both are the small size, and we have the 32″ and the 14″ length. Our parakeet loves them and would rate them 5 stars if it were up to him. I would’ve rated them 5 stars as well, because I love how easy they are to use, and how they can be contorted to any design or shape to make an interesting place to perch for him. However, after only two months of use, my son was outside cleaning the cage/toys/perches, and he hit the plastic notched end of the perch on the concrete driveway. One side of the notched end completely broke off, which made it impossible to be attached to the cage on that end anymore. This is probably not too surprising, since it is plastic and therefore not particularly durable…and he shouldn’t have been slinging the perch onto the driveway while cleaning (he definitely heard from me on that!). But I wish they were either made from more durable plastic, or maybe even metal. Either way, we love the perches and we did buy a replacement right away.
