Stands apart from the usual portable speakers!
I saw one of these (black) with a fellow traveler, and was impressed.Pondered for some weeks and then couldn’t resist ordering one. Preferred the cream one for some reason, and I think I’ve made the right choice. Listened to more music since I got this than I’ve done in months. Everything sounds punchy and crisp.Tried a couple of different genres of music that I like — I’m not into electronic music much but metal, hindustani classical, old school rock n roll, all sounded fantastic for a speaker this size. I don’t have my Bose Soundlink II handy for a sound comparison but even if that trumps the Emberton in sound quality (I feel the marshall EQ preset’s bass is a bit on the higher side than I’d like but I’m able to compensate for that by changing mode using the Marshall app or Equalizer in my phone / music app) I’ll still travel around with the Emberton II because it is so compact yet powerful sounding. Battery life seems great from what I can tell (hope it stays great). This is a very slick thing to own and I’m very pleased with the purchase. It looks, feels and sounds very premium to me.

Great sound clarity and clean bass from such a small portable speaker

Great product with usage caveats
A few months ago I had an epiphany. When I was a kid my father loved to have the best in sound equipment in the house, and I would play with graphic equalizers and lay in the floor looking for the best position between the giant speakers to experiment how to better enjoy the music.Today, I hear music in monophonic audio in an old JBL Charge 3 speaker (don’t tell my dad, he would be ashame of me).So I started to get better equipment. Now, I live in a small apartment with thin walls in a 3rd floor, so, big amplifiers and so are out of the question, but at least I could get better bluetooth speakers, so I tried the Marshall Emberton II.To say that I impressed with the sound would be an understatement. With out-of-the-box settings, the sound is more than detailed. 80s and 90s music sound outstanding although, Peter Cetera’s Glory of Love and Toto’s Africa vocals sound as I never heard them before, they are sharp and strong, sometimes detracting just a little from the overall sound (keywords here, really, just a little). This brings me to my first recommendation: do not mess with your applications equalizers if you don’t know what you are doing. This speakers were clearly designed to use the manufacturer equalizer settings (more on this later). I have youtube music and amazon prime music (yeah, I know, no spotify), and my sound with the latter was to heavy on bass, to the point of drowning the music and feeling almost distorting. Tron: Legacy’s soundtrack sounded specially dreadful, as Daftpunk uses heavy bass in their electronic music for that specific music. I then set the equalization in Amazon Prime Music to flat. It was a different performance altogether. I could ever hear some slight effects they used, that I had not noticed before. Now, one down for the application. Bluetooth pairing used Google Fast Pair, which was seamless and impressive (it shows appears to be a custom Marshall little window, so, it looks cool), but the application takes forever to actually “discover” the device, even when it is already paired. When it finally discover it (which was not too long, but took a couple of turning on and off the speaker), the application notified me of a firmware upgrade, which I proceeded to install. The installation failed miserably, so, I temporarily stopped that effort, which I retook successfully a day later. The update was surprisingly big in size, taking around 5 minutes to download, and the application simply marked the update successful while the speaker was still rebooting, which took a few seconds more than what I feel comfortable with, but it went through, and after that, the application again took surprisingly long to detect the speaker. To end that topic, the equalization settings are definitely underwhelming, with only three modes: Marshall, Voice and Push, of which I have only tried Marshall as everybody else says that Voice is just for podcast and such and Push increases bass at the expense of all the other sound bands quality.Lesson learned: unless too picky, when using this speaker, leave your apps equalizers on flat, their profile is that good. Now, to the hardware itself, people will notice this little wonder. Using the nostalgia factor with the Marshall amplifier design was a touch of genius, and the brass button on top is the cherry on top. Some reviews complain about a single button approach to multifunction (power, volume, forward-back, bluetooth pairing has another almost invisible button, which fits because you are not changing your pairing frequently). If we can handle touch control on over-head and in-ear speakers, this button is a piece of cake.My only complain in this department is that, at least for me, an old guy, the signs indicating the functions around the button, being carved in the black speaker, which has texture, are for all intent and purposes invisible, but once you get accustomed, an use the logo as a positional reference that’s not a problem anymore. And finally, the little caveat. Single speaker, stereo sound. Let that sink in.Done? Ok, they achieve this trick by separating the sound left and right with drivers back and front respectively (or was it the other way around? well, you get my point). Stereo suffers a little (not too much) because both sources are incredibly close, but it brings this caveat. This speaker should not be set as others, against walls, like in shelf, and so, because you end up drowning one side. The best position for this speaker is in the center of the audio stage, and if you want to appreciate the sound, you should point one side (not the front or back) to you. that way both sources are equally distanced from you so you get a better balance. If you are ok with the caveats this product is worth the price, I definitely recommend it.

This thing ROCKS!
What a fabulous speaker. Easy to use; very portable; battery does indeed last as long as they claim and charges back up quickly; sounds great on all kinds of music; looks great! It can really sing when you crank the volume, too; easily fills the upper floor of my house. Wow! A little expensive, but well worth it.Note that if you’re a REALLY picky audiophile… NO, this is not going to give you the quality of listening experience you’re looking for. And that’s coming from a musician who loves high fidelity. But c’mon, it’s a portable speaker! Keep your expectations realistic. For the average Joe, this mini-Marshall delivers a better-quality listening experience than most and is very aesthetically pleasing, so. No regrets here!

Love, love, love, and love…
So good, I bought two instead of one Marshall Middleton. As wanted, I pair them together to get surround sound, smaller size, and save about $50. Although I own two pairs of Marshall headphones which I’m taking with me to Heaven, at that time – it took awhile for me to commit to buying the speakers. That’s because I already own a pair of off-brand Bluetooth speakers that sound so much better and lasts many hours longer than more expensive Beats, Bose, Sony, etc. They have all the other bells-and-whistles specifications, including USB-C, rapid charging, 20+ hours playtime and only cost $30 each. The seller stopped selling them on Amazon.Emberton II was a huge jump in price. The difference from Emberton I – is it will pair with other Marshall speakers. But only the latest models like the Middleton or more Emberton IIs. Also, the Emberton II has a grain texture finish. The hardest part about buying Marshall products is knowing if you actually got authentic products. Knock-offs provide knock-off quality and it hurts the reputation of genuine products with bad reviews. I won’t describe the differences in great details. The box is printed on all sides that spills over to other sides. It looks and feels real money, very expensively printed. Inside packaging and booklets too. The speaker is very well crafted down to the smallest details and feels solid. The grills are finished very well, individually, without any rough edges or mistakes and so is the Marshall signature emblem. Look closely. The Emberton II sound quality is phenomenal for all music genres. It’s a work of art pumping out sound, spatially separating all the tracks of instruments and voices, to hear them together in one song. This is studio quality at a reasonable price. It exceeds my $30 pair, which already beat-out all the other more expensive speakers, in the only way it could. I heard sounds playing in music I’ve heard so many times, I can replay it verbatim in my head. Some folks might scoff at this price point comparison. But if I’m completely satisfied at $30 or $170 – no one can entice me to spend $1500 or $15,000 I can afford to pay too. I might purchase more Emberton II’s to install wireless speakers throughout the house. For now, I’m pretty satisfied.

This is a mono speaker – get a stereo speaker instead
I purchased and tested the following speakers: Marshall Emberton II, JBL Flip 6, Bose Soundlink Flex, Raymate 20W IPX7, Soundcore 3 by Anker. However – all of those speakers are mono speakers. I would not recommend these speakers because they are not stereo.I recommend the Raymate 30W bluetooth speaker because it is stereo –> Raymate Bluetooth Speakers, 30W IPX7 Waterproof – it is better than Bose, JBL, Marshall, and SoundCore and a much better price. I am using it on my bicycle as a portable bike speaker and it rocks the block.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BJDBXGZY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Decent sound for its size, at mid volume, in a small area.
Really wanted to like this, it looks great, feels hefty for its size but severely lacks any punch over 60%. I own several Kilburns and a Hanwell which totally ROCK and you have the ability to adjust the Treble and Bass to your liking. Wish Marshall would have included that capability in their app.I do like the size and portability (easier to transport than the battery powered Kilburn). Battery life is impressive. This actually sounds ok if you are between 20% – 60% volume in a small area, also this unit has a 360 sound stage, so placing it in a corner or against a wall to enhance the bass isn’t happening.

Quality sound, great battery life.
I was first attracted to the Emberton II just by the beautiful packaging. I was happy to read the reviews about the audio quality matching the good looks. I would read about how it sounds at a high volume, but I don’t care about that. I care about how it sounds at a low volume. This is a terrific speaker for background music in my office and kitchen. It also works beautifully for the podcasts I’ll listen to. Furthermore, the battery life is as advertised. If I have one suggestion, I’d request more EQ setting options for improving voice quality. As things are, there’s not much difference between the music and voice EQ setting.I’d certainly recommend this if you’re looking.

Terrible Bluetooth Speaker Option
From the first day I heard music through this thing I was disappointed, but I had to hide those opinions from those who bought it for me as a gift. The BIGGEST flaw with this device is the lack of aux. Marshall was an instrument amplifier company, yet this looks like it was designed by the same people who make iPhones. I can’t plug anything into it, what a waste! Waste of plastic, metal, lithium battery, and time.At low to medium volumes the music is too bass heavy, which sounds like a good thing for a small speaker, but it’s really a lack of clarity, a muddiness than comes from some stupid software EQ meant to compensate for its inabilities. The USB-C charging port angers me. It doesn’t hold cables in. The vibration from playing music literally vibrates the cable out, leaving me with a dead speaker. You’ll think it’s charging, and an hour later you’ll be throwing the speaker out of frustration.Buy JBL, Sony, or any other brand with their head on straight. If you’re a fan of Marshall, you might not be after getting one of these. Aux is necessary and those who don’t include it are Nazis.

Great Sound and Portability
Got this for my boyfriend for Christmas. He always used his phone which he admits sounds terrible in his pocket. He fell in love with this speaker at first listen. Now it goes all over the house and yard with him. It really does have great sound and is small and lightweight. He uses it for hours on end and charges each night. It has a very high end design and feel. I could see this working well for a party or simply crank it up and get your dance on while making dinner.

For a speaker its size, it’s a beast in disguise
First off, I am not an expert on audio equipment and what I’m about to say is purely my own but I try to be as objective as I can. First, the Emberton II looks sleek. I love the design and simplicity. The emblem is prominent against the all-black finish. The overall texture of the finish feels so good to the touch! I also like that they used red illumination for the battery level and the power indicator. It’s subtle for those who have any issue for bright lights. It feels sturdy at less than 1 kg and at that weight, I was initially worried about the quality of the sound. Now for the main event: Sound quality. The first thing I did after unboxing was to immediately pair it with my phone (I haven’t tried the app but connectivity seems to be no problem for me, using the standard bluetooth pairing). Now, when I test a speaker for the first time, I usually play the theme from Game of Thrones and the Imperial March from Star Wars (I have to hear the clarity of the instruments and enjoy the sound. And yes, I am a fan of those two franchise so sue me). Upon playing, the intro rumble from the Game of Thrones Theme was so clear that it gave me goosebumps! What impressed me was that, there was a definition between the instruments so there was no overpowering one from the other. Next thing I did was to crank up the volume…. Again I am not an expert on these matters but from what I experienced and HEARD, this tiny speaker can really deliver! The same clarity can be heard even at max volume (using my phone as source via bluetooth). Unlike my previous purchases (in fairness, they are smaller and forgivable) where they sound like an empty can, this beast can really deliver even at maximum volume (my apologies to my neighbors downstairs!). I switched to The Imperial March and did the same routine again. What a joy! It delivered the same results that almost made me use to Force! I also played other songs (j-rock, R & B, Old School Rock, Old School Rap) and I was really satisfied. One other thing that I noticed was that the vocals are so clear and prominent, it feels as if I’m using a 3.1 channel audio equipment. My only issue is that it has no 3.5 mm audio socket (I’m an old school) but I believe I can use the USB-C port for that (I have to purchase a separate adapter for it though). Based on the others’ opinion, it is possible to plug a 3.5 mm jack. I have yet to try it.Overall, I am happy. I am satisfied. I will not make any recommendations since each and every individual has specific tastes in sound quality but I will say this.. Include this in your list of potential candidates when you are shopping for a portable speaker and give it a shot. All I can say, personally, is that the Marshall Emberton II really exceeded my personal expectations and it was worth every cent that I poured into. Similarly to when I bought my first Marshall (Major IV), I can say I am glued to Marshall for my audio needs and I do not see myself looking at other brands at the moment. That’s how satisfied I am.

Simply the best in the range but..
Why to buy:1. Sounds quality is best (signature Marshall sound)2. Battery back up on full charge: 18-20hr on full volume, 24+hrs on 70-80 volume.3. 3.15 HR to full charge with 30w charger4. Looks just wow, premium feel (worth it)Cons:1. Terrible multi device supportAlthough you can connect (2) devices to speaker, however, notification on first device can interrupt playing music from second or vice versa.–If you want Little loud sound with same quality, you can go for “Bose SoundLink Flex Bluetooth Portable Speaker” but you will be compromising with battery backup. If you can afford, definitely go for it. You won’t regret.

Great sound with fantastic build quality and finish
My newest Bluetooth speaker is the Marshall Emberton II (I’m discussing both the Emberton I and the evolved Emberton II, having tried both). Important to note is that now that the Emberton I is being phased out in favor of the Emberton II, the Emberton I can be had for a major bargain price of $119 on Amazon. The Emberton II sells for $169, the same price the Emberton I was, before Marshall introduced the new II. Though I generally tend to gravitate to a manufacturer’s latest incarnation of a model—and ultimately I did here—I can’t steer people away from the desire to save $50 and get the older Emberton I. To my ears, they are so similar sounding, that it’s really up to a person’s particular feature set desires and their budget priorities. According to a representative from Marshall, here are the feature set additions/changes that Marshall has made to the Emberton II:1. Claimed battery life improved from 20 hours to 30 hours (I can’t confirm this)2. “Stack” mode allowing you to connect multiple Emberton II speakers together3. Improved Bluetooth 5.1 over the Bluetooth 5.0 on Emberton I. (Note that there is absolutely no gain in sound quality by going from 5.0 to 5.1. I think 5.1 is less power hungry than 5.0, which might be the prime contributor to the Emberton II’s longer battery life.)4. Customizable sound via the Marshall app (I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ve read several unflattering reviews on Amazon about the app)5. Emberton II gets slightly louder6. Bluetooth iOS latency improved from 110 milliseconds to 1 millisecond—a 110x improvement!—which is important if you want to use this speaker with your TV.Pros:Sound: The sound is frankly just about THE BEST that I’ve heard from a 2.68 x 6.30 x 2.99 inch enclosure, or really from any size portable Bluetooth speaker for that matter. The Emberton is about the same dimensions as six iPhone 14 Pro Max’s stacked on top of each other. Since this is a Marshall-brand speaker, one would expect powerful bass, and the Emberton I and II surely deliver. The bass is remarkably deep and authoritative; in fact, there are occasions where I think the bass can overwhelm the rest of the audio spectrum. But it’s accurate and never muddy at almost all volume settings (try a recording of a well-plucked bass guitar string). When playing at very high or max volumes, some frequency response accuracy is lost. This is a design trade-off for a small but very bass-capable speaker like the Emberton. The Emberton likely has a slightly higher-than-desirable amount of dynamic range compression (DRC). DRC can be both a good and bad thing. Too much dynamic range compression at high volume can introduce pumping and compression artifacts, which will mostly be manifested on bass-heavy music. I detected a slight amount of underemphasis (compression) in the bass region at the highest volume setting, but I’d rather have that than distorted bass from a woofer being pushed beyond its acceptable travel limits. (Note that almost all bluetooth speakers I’ve ever owned have had some level of DRC.) Where this speaker *really* makes me smile is in the midrange and high frequency response. Vocals and acoustic guitar reproduction are fantastic, and higher frequencies from instruments like riding cymbals absolutely sparkle. The overall frequency balance, top-to-bottom, is among the best I’ve heard in such a small package. This speaker can get quite loud, though I’m just not the type to “crank it” because I don’t think any speaker, regardless of size, quality, design, or indestructibility, sounds very good at extreme volumes. Lastly, the placement of the active and passive drivers makes for a very pleasurable 360-degree soundstage, and unlike other compact Bluetooth speakers, it’s true stereo, not monaural playback.Weight: This little guy is heavy, and that’s a good thing in a portable compact powered speaker. That extra heft tells me that the enclosure is substantial and that the components are quality ones. A beefier enclosure generally equates to more authoritative and better controlled bass. The heavier weight, combined with a thoughtfully-made, non-slip rubber bottom, will help to prevent “speaker walk” when you’re cranking this bad boy. And although I don’t ever intend to try it, I’m sure this speaker is robust enough to survive a fall from a table onto a hard floor.Build Quality/Aesthetics: Outstanding. Gorgeous. Enough said! :-)Cons:1. This goes for both Emberton models: for a premium speaker, I had hoped for support of Apple’s AAC Bluetooth codec used in the iPhone and Apple AirPods. Instead, the Emberton uses SBC, which is a somewhat “lossier” (read: lower sound quality) transmission format than Apple’s AAC or the even better-quality Qualcomm AptX HD codec. (Note that Apple confusingly uses the acronym “AAC” for both its Bluetooth codec and its primary file compression algorithm for storing music files.)2. The Emberton II takes a slight step backward in that the older Emberton I has better multi-point, which allows for the connection of two different brand Bluetooth speakers simultaneously, with the ability to quickly and seamlessly A/B switch between the two (good for comparison purposes)3. An aux (3.5mm) input would be nice, but it’s not a deal breaker for me.SUMMARY: this little gem is a definite keeper and perfect for travel!

Honest review . I bought this because I saw and read how great it was , and honestly it had a clear sound . But the bass is really bad and sounds very flat when you turn it up. Was highly disappointed when I used it , I was very excited to try it out too :(. If you’re looking for clarity and that’s all, then this is your go to . But look for Bose or jbl if you want bass and a much louder sound . Overall , it’s an ok speaker , definitely not worth the $180 bucks

Great sound, strong bass
I love the sound, its impressive for a small speaker. However, only downside is that you cannot adjust the bass level. It is not bad, but for me sometimes it is too strong. Otherwise, it is perfect.

L’originale Marshall
