Great Sound
Once I got the right amp for these speakers they really shine. They fill the patio with high quality sound and plenty of bass. They are also great looking speakers with connection terminals I think will last a long time.

They rival my Sonos sound-bar. I have them out in the open. Rained on. They sound great. I’m gonna get another set for my bar room. Much cheaper then my Sonos and the sound is close to it.I have an audio source amp and a wiim pro to air play to it.

Polk never disappoints
This is my 3rd Polk purchase and I don’t think you can do any better for the $. Sound is great, but I’d like to have heard a bit better sound at low end. A minor concern for my outdoor deck/pool application. Plus, they look really good.

Great Sounding Outdoor speakers
First and foremost the sound is great. Typical Polk Audio. Installation was a breeze. Loved the wall mount speaker bracket design. What more is their to say. I would definitely buy another pair of Atrium 4’s if I needed too.

Takes a lot of power to drive them, otherwise decent speakers.
They sound surprisingly good in a small space. Requires a fair amount of power to get any volume. Wish I had bought the larger pair. They are pretty solid with strong brackets.

Polk 5’s Rock
Just got my new Polk a trim fives for my outdoor patio. I’m replacing Polk atrium fours that I’ve had for 10 years that I really liked. They just started to go bad recently replacing with the Polk fives. I can immediately hear the improvement in the sound quality, fullness and richness of the shine. Another wonderful benefit of getting the same brand specifically the poke fives is that the bracket although it is a little bigger, the screw holes are in the same exact location, so it was simply a matter of popping off the old bracket and popping in the new bracket in the exact same location. This made installation of snap try the poke fives you’ll really like them.

These are excellent…for the money
The media could not be loaded.
There are a lot of reviews poo-pooing the bass response. If the bass was your concern, why would you look at a speaker with a 4″ driver? One reviewer compared them to a speaker at 2x the price! How does that make sense? That’s like buying a Toyota C-HR and then complaining about acceleration. These are not for critical listening or dance parties. These are for outdoor music at reasonable levels. And at that, they do a very good job. They look nice. They are smaller and blend in well.I’m driving mine with a $20 (Parts Express, $30 on Amazon) Lepai amp and older dot w/audio out. It’s a great setup that is part of a whole house system. With Alexa and Spotify, I can play music inside and out.

With a GOOD receiver, these are phenomenal
These speakers kick like hell, but you need a real amplifier otherwise they will sound small. I hooked these up to an old HK receiver and they are stunning. I have owned the 4, 5 and even the largest of these outdoor speakers and they have never disappointed. My oldest pair, well over ten years in use, are still kicking it and have been outside this whole time.A great investment for outdoor sound

So far so good
Got these for back patio, wired them in to a Bluetooth amplifier. They were easy to install, sound great perfect coverage for size of my patio. Gave 4 stars due to the fact that they have not been weather tested yet. We get a lot of wind and dust so we will see how they hold up.

Impressed
A lot of reviews focused on bottom-end performance (important for sure) and I knew I needed (bought two speakers to compliment backbone for a quad to replace 4 inch minis) but the top end is what surprised me. Yes the bottom is rounded, but I heard some crisp highs that I hadn’t even noticed were absent! “Yeah” by Usher came up 3rd on a random shuffle and I actually stopped and cocked an ear, I had no idea there were these sparkling chiming highs in this song until exposed by these speakers. Maybe I’ve never listened to on higher quality indoor system but really doesn’t matter– to have so exposed in open air was a treat. Remaining listening session while already over initial pleasure was great. A good sound and this despite my inert doubt for invest return on manufacture quality of any midrange product… A SOLID BUY!!!

Nice Improvement for my Patio
I installed a couple of cheaper speakers on my back patio together with a small amp. After installation I was pretty disappointed with the quality of the sound so I decided to give a try to something better. After a lot of research I found out that probably the best speakers that you can get for an outdoor system are the Klipsch AW-650. However, those are huge and unfortunately too big for my small patio. So based on the good reviews for the Atrium 4, I decided to give a try to the Atrium 5 as a compromise between size and bass output. The Atrium 5 sound a lot better than my previous speakers so I’m very pleased with this purchase.

Clear and crisp with excelent imaging
I first hooked up the speakers indoors using the cables from my old but still beloved KEF 104/2 set. There was obviously less bass in these Atrium 5s than the floorstanding KEFs, but I was struck by the excellent clarity and imaging. Convinced they were OK I mounted in the lanai (35′ x 12′) where we had an aging pair of BOSE 101S until 1 died after 15 years outside in FL heat and humidity. I mounted them on the ceiling about 1 foot from the side and back walls, where the 101s were mounted. Holes didn’t line up but I had some wall anchors rated at 15 lbs/ea. that worked. The sensitivity was almost an exact match to the 101s. Since we listen mostly to jazz I started with the Bill Evans “Riverside” disc )personal favorite) and loved the texture of the piano. The 101s made it sound like a percussion instrument where the Atriums made it sound more like a stringed instrument, if that makes any sense. The stand up bass was clear and resonant. Miles Davis’ horn on Blue in Green sounded rich and crisp. I tried vocals which seem to reveal crossover problems but all including a variety of female voices (Ronstadt, kd lang, and Bonnie Raitt) sounded clear and smooth with no holes in the response. The bass actually sounded better on the lanai probably due to the proximity of the ceiling and walls. Our old favorite Steely Dan is playing now with all their great instrumentals and the vocals clearer than before. So far I am very happy. Some hard rock lovers (I do listen to that also) may prefer the old “JBL sound” that artificially boosts the lower midrange for warmth and increases the high end for more punchy dynamics. In listening to the Eagles Hotel California (a favorite) the dynamics seem a little flat but the band was famous for layering multiple analog recorded tracks which results in limited dynamics and the speakers are just reproducing what’s there. Tone controls can help if desired. Would I have liked the 6s better? Probably, but I am very happy with the 5s on the patio and at the price (the white ones had a really good price for some reason) they are a steal.

Great little speakers
Easy install, love the easy corner mount option though I didn’t use it because I didn’t feel like drilling brick. SUPER easy install with bracket set up allowing mount without having to juggle the speaker (easily removes and installs from bracket). Quality Polk, I have their in-wall for my surround sound, love these too. Mine are recently installed and under my front porch so I can’t speak to weather proofing. Sound is 7.5 out of 10 for me good decent quality but not something to rave about. I feel like I definitely got my money’s worth

Good quality for the….
for the money. The size of speaker limits the range of frequency it can reproduce, but it does seem to have crossovers which limit the frequency each speaker can play without distortion or damage, so they still sound good given their limitations. I would recommend these.

Great product for a reasonable price
They are 4″ speakers, and as such, have the bass response of a 4″ speaker. For me, that is perfect because I have them mounted on the side of the garage pointed toward the pool and I don’t want to bother the neighbors. I also have 2 inside the garage for when I’m working on things. If you want more bass response, you could get a sub, but I’d probably actually recommend just getting the atrium 6 instead. Unless you are out in the middle of nowhere, what you want is generally “a more balanced sound” not “The sound from a 4″ speaker + a ton of extra bass”.Mounting bracket is very nice, the screw on caps are very easy to take on/off. Little bit awkward to pull the speaker out of the bracket once it’s in, you have to pull the two bracket pieces apart somewhat.Included are instructions for painting the speakers. I didn’t bother.I plan to take these down during winter but otherwise leave them up 24/7. They are totally under the eaves of my garage and that’s about all the protection I’m thinking they will need. Time will tell, however.I recommend the MediaBridge full-copper wire. I got the AmazonBasics wire that amazon paired with this at first and it was copper clad aluminum. I sent it back*Update August 2017*: They survived the last year with minimal protection and still sound great, haven’t shown any signs of rust or any other deterioration. I used gold/brass right angle banana ports to shield my copper cable and left those sitting out over winter with no issue. I took the speakers in for the winter. More and more I’m wishing I went with the 6″ for the bass response, at least for the ones in my garage, but for what it is I still maintain that they are fantastic speakers

Big sound in a small package when paired with appropriate amplifier. Impressive and efficient!
I had been looking for an outdoor solution to have music out by our pool. After quite a bit of research I landed on the Atrium 4, My initial impression when taking them out of the box was the robust build. They were not kidding when they stated they are military grade. Although i have only had them for about a month I can attest they performed flawlessly after about two weeks of monsoon like rains, I am in Austin which was just hit by flooding.(I have them hung under our awning out of direct rain but they did get wet.) As far as options to power these I did quite a bit of diligent research looking for something that had a small form factor but could power these sufficiently. I purchased the SMSL SA50 50Wx2 TDA7492 Class D Amplifier + Power Adapter (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F0H8TOC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00). This thing as a footprint slightly larger than a deck of cards but because of the efficiency of these speakers this amp has more than a enough power (I have yet to push this past halfway out of fear of neighbor complaints not to mention its audibly uncomfortable). For sound quality paired with this particular amp sounds as my mid range studio monitors. The definition of the highs are impressive and the lows are well balanced without being overly bassy. I have listened a variety of genres ranging from Instrumental Flamenco Guitar to Metal to Funk to Hip Hop to Banging H-Town rap and have been satisfied with all of this. We love this particular setup that we bought another pair for inside the house. For less than 200 dollars you can have a phenomenal setup. Finally have this hooked up to a Logitech Bluetooth adapter for complete wireless control of the whole systems. Now i have the flexibility to play anything I like from any music platform (Spotify, Pandora, Ipods, etc) at a fraction of what a sonos system would cost.

Decent speakers at a reasonable price.
Product sounds really good. I have a couple Bose speakers in the house, as comparison these speakers are not as bright in sound. They carry a more dominant mid-tone to my ear which is subjective to each person. They have the ability to go pretty loud depending on your receiver and have not distorted. There is a reason they have been in production since 2005. If you are thinking about adding some outdoor speakers but aren’t looking to break the bank, these speakers will not disappoint. I could not be happier with them. My 4 star on the sound is really a preference thing, others may think they are straight up 5. From the install perspective, these speakers come with the mounting bracket, but do not include screws. I used a couple exterior grade screws to fasten to the soffit above my desk. Once the bracket is up, the speakers slide in and then you tighten the cap on either side. Very easy to do (the hard part is running the wires, but that has nothing to do with the speakers themselves). Overall I do rank these as a 5 for value. They are above the quality you might expect for the price point and get the job done. They are a nice set of speakers that should add enjoyment to your outdoor space for years to come.

Great! Better than expected!
Loving them!!!! I’ve had these on my list for over a year while planning and performing my basement remodel. While doing that I ran speaker wire out to my back patio from my planned home theater in the basement. I’m glad I stuck with them instead of going with another brand. (Though I have nothing to compare them to). Very nice sound stage imaging that I did not expect from outdoor speakers. Bass is quite good for the size. You obviously will not get as much as my Infinity Primus 363 Towers (or a 12″ subwoofer), but it’s much better than expected.Amazing creative, functional and sturdy built in mounting brackets! I used #10 screws to mount the brackets (keyhole) to the overhang underneath my roof. I put one screw through the stud and the other only through my wood siding. The speakers are pretty light weight (4 pounds) and easy to handle and I feel that they are 100% sturdy and will not fall. The speaker is super easy to remove from the bracket and just as easy to attach. Great for bringing your speakers inside during the winter!Problem: The banana plugs (Monoprice) that I have are too long for the cavity where the binding posts are. I pushed them in and are working for now, but I would feel better if I got shorter ones that fit all the way in there.I’m using my 2nd zone on my Onkyo Receiver. The remote app is awesome. You can select your source, pause and skip songs and control the volume straight from the app. You can power on the 2nd zone without turning your whole receiver on and can do it all from the app. It is so cool! You just have to have your receiver connected to your network, wired or WiFi and have your phone on WiFi.Rocking out!

Great find and clean wonderful sound
Looking long and hard for some replacement outdoor speakers. Looked at the usual suspects BOSE, KlIPSCH, CAMBRIDGE SOUNDWORKS, etc.. Decided after reviews of the Polk Audio outdoor speakers that I was originally going to purchase the POLK AUDIO Atrium 4s. to fill the need. Ultimately purchased the next step up model the Atrium 5s.. Man oh man I do not know what the 4s sound like but if you can spring for the 5s DO IT.. The clarity and the sound at low levels, normal levels and even at blasting these is uncanny.I have them installed under my outside eaves in my backyard and the music is so nice. Great full balanced sound not tinny sounding at all. Doesn’t matter what kind of music I throw at it,( I mostly listen to classic rock from 60’s -70’s) the speakers handle it with ease..Easy to install and it comes with special brackets so you can point them to wherever you need sound for your backyard. So glad I sprung for these great sounding speakers

Big value in a small speaker!
Although these are designed for outdoors, I am using these indoors to replace some older Sony surrounds mounted in corners of our family room. Was pleased to find I could use the existing mounts by simply adding some washers and wing nuts. So mounting is pretty flexible if you’re decently handy. As for the sound quality, it is very good and better than what I had with the Sonys. As my musician son said, a “fuller sound.” I agree.I’ve seen some reviews mention the bass is disappointing. My response is that if one endeavors to gain high level insight into the physics of sound one learns that it is “physically” impossible to get booming bass out of small speakers. If you are using these in a 5.1 scenario it is a non-issue as you are already covered by your subwoofer. If using out of doors then perhaps the bass thing is bit more of an issue. But again nobody makes a booming bass speaker this size. At $50 per speaker this is a good value. Very sturdy and should be very durable outdoors and therefore certainly indoors.

Sounded Great, only lasted 2.5 Years
I did a lot of research buying speakers for my deck and decided these were the best value/quality. They sound great. My only issue is, they didn’t last 3 years. They are outdoors but mounted in a protected area under the deck roof. The speakers started cutting out intermittently after about 2.5 years. This spring I swapped out the amp and all of the cabling, same issues. Yeah, I didn’t buy the warranty but I have not had good experience with the warranty returns in the past.I’ll probably replace with the same speakers.

Good sound. Small foot print. Easy install
I have Series 8 in the backyard and the Series 4 for my front. The 8’s are great for parties and swimming and just two of them produce quality sound. In the front, the 4’s are ideal for a smaller space but when you still want a good speaker. You’re never going to get a thumping base out any of these due to their compact design but for me, the price, size, ease of installation and quality sound make these perfect.

Awsome audio quality at a great price.Polk Audio Atrium 4 Outdoor Speakers (Pair, White)
I was really torn as far as how much money to spend on my outdoor speakers. I was originally looking at the Bose 151 SE Elegant Outdoor Speakers but after reading up on the reviews and doing a lot of research I decided to purchase the Polk Audio Atrium 4 Outdoor Speakers and I am so glad I did. I purchased 16AWG 4-Conductor Speaker Wire by Mediabridge to run from my Onkyo TX-NR609 Zone 2 output to the speakers mounted outside under the eves of my house close to my pool area. Mounting the speakers using the speed lock mounting bracket was surprisingly easy (you will need a couple screws which is not included for mounting). The speaker wire connections were a little tough to get at but it does not affect my five star rating at all. I would have preferred banana clips to connect the speakers but you would have needed banana clips which bend at a right angle in order to fit in the speaker wire hole. I can turn the speakers about 90 degrees if I wanted to. I have my speakers connected to my Onkyo TX-NR609 zone 2 and the quality of the audio has far outperformed my expectations, especially for the price of the speakers. I am so impressed with the Polk speakers I plan on buying two more for the front of my house. My receiver puts out a good 95 Watts and the zone 2 speakers are more than capable of covering my large pool area with awesome audio quality. Not only would I recommend the Atrium 4 Speakers but I would also highly recommend the Polk brand name.

Great Sound
I wanted outdoor speakers to get sound to my patio and pool area. My budget was only $200 so I wasn’t sure what I would find. At first I was looking at the Polk Atrium 45 and the Yamaha NS-AW570WH. After researching more on the Polk and Yamaha websites, I found the new Atrium 5 series from Polk seemed to fit my needs the best, but the price was a little over my budget. I was surprised when I found them here on Amazon at such a great price. Interesting that the white version is selling at list price while the black is discounted 30%. They can both be painted so I jumped at the chance to get the black speakers at a significant savings.I’m very pleased with my purchase. I have a 15′ deep covered patio. I have the speakers mounted under the patio on the wall of the house. These little speakers have no problem throwing sound all the way to the end of the pool 45′ away from the speakers. The nice thing too is that the sound stays where I want it and I can enjoy it without bothering my side neighbors. I have them mounted near the ceiling so I get good bass response. My Yamaha RX-V3900 receiver has 3 zones so now I can listen to music at the pool while the kids watch movies or play video games on the main TV.In the end I decided not to paint the speakers. They look very nice in black and actually blend in well with my house. They actually blend in better than the white speakers would have. I can’t comment on how well they will hold up in the outdoors. The military specs they are designed to meet make me think they will be superb. Plus they have a 5 year warranty. My mounting position also helps since it’s nearly impossible for them to ever see rain, although they will see hot Texas sun at times. Overall, excellent speakers at this price.

Great sound, good value
Mounting: The mounts were nice in that the speaker easily snaps into the mount and is immediately held securely when mounting. (They were also difficult to remove the speaker from!) The space provided for the inputs was not large enough to accommodate my speaker jacks (right angle jacks would work). Then, the speakers were difficult to wire as the fancy locking brackets would not allow the speaker to rotate enough to allow the terminals to be visible from the front (as you look at them from atop your ladder!) Additionally, the small opening for the terminals made it difficult for human-sized fingers to tighten the terminals. All these were forgotten when I played music.Sound quality: While lacking in low end response as expected for their size, these speakers sound terrific, presenting an excellent stereo image and an easy, uncolored and natural sound. As good sound is the most important aspect of speakers, I can overlook the minor installation inconveniences and say that I am very pleased with my purchase!

high quality; sturdy, easy to install mounting brackets
I just finished installing these as “zone 2” speakers for my outdoor deck and my first impression is excellent. They are connected to my Sherwood receiver
Sherwood RX5502 100 Watt RMS Dual-Zone Stereo Receiver (Black)
and I think the sound quality is pretty darn good for small speakers. The range of sound is full–not all highs or lows like you get with some outdoor speakers; however, the lows are a little lacking. Really the most impressive part is sturdy mounting brackets that came included and made installation a snap (wiring them, however was a different story…getting wires across my house and to the deck without my wife being able to see them was a challenge!). You will need your own screws/bolts though.I take one star off because the sound isnt quite as good as the indoor bookshelf sony’s
Sony SS-B1000 5 1/8-Inch Bookshelf Speakers (Pair)
I just and installed to the same receiver. The sonys were half the price of these and arrived 2-days with amazon prime. Now granted, the Polks have a different housing designed for all weather use and they are strung on the end of 40+ feet of 16 gauge wire
Mediabridge – 16 Gauge Speaker Wire [w/ Sequential Foot Markings] – (100 Feet)
, which surely diminishes quality a bit. But in the end, I wonder if I could tell the difference between these and slightly cheaper product…Packaging: I was a bit tweaked that the company sends them in their orignial box, without an outer box like amazon does. Anyone driving by my house could have seen what’s sitting on my doorstep and could have helped themselves! They did come in great condition, and I wasnt robbed, but I had to mention it.

Awesome outdoor speakers!
I purchased two pairs to bring my large wrap around deck to full sounding glory. I am an audio engineer, so I am expecting a lot from them (at a cheap price). I must say that I am very happy. Of course, a lot of the sound itself is dictated by the amplifier in which you use, where you mount the speakers, and much more. For me, these are perfection. I also purchased a pair of the competing Kicker outdoor speakers. I found that between the 2 pairs of Polks, and the 1 pair of Kicker’s – I the Polk have a beautiful clarity that I’m enjoying. No, they are not super bass heavy (no speaker of this size could really reach down to 20hz anyway) but they do have a well balanced range in which I find very pleasing to my tuned ears. In comparison to the Kicker’s – I’d say the Polk’s have 1 notch up. The Kicker’s have more bass, but not as much clarity and definition as the Polk.I’m giving this 5 stars because: The price is fantastic. The sound quality is satisfying and well balanced. The speakers really do project nicely, and the build quality is quite good. I can now drown out the neighbors with ease! haha..Bottom line is: if you need a good pair of outdoor speakers for a sweet price – these are likely the perfect match well worth considering.

Updated review March 2021
Awesome speakers!!! The sound is super clear and they have great bass for the size as well…….they don’t have the super deep bass like an active subwoofer. ….but hey, they’re smaller speakers. Perfect for the patio or deck! Not too big and bulky but big enough to sound great!! Quality appears great and you can’t beat the mounting system!! Super easy to mount in a variety of positions……and the speaker slips into bracket and stays in place so your hands are free to put the cap screws on the ends and hook the wires up!! The engineers actually did a great job with this system! We mounted them under the soffit on the house above the back deck and they’re wired into an older Pioneer receiver with an equalizer. It gets -30f here so we will be removing them for winter just to be safe. At under $100 I don’t think you will be able to find better bang for the buck anywhere. Highly recommend!!Update*#*#*11/17Just finished installing two more pair of these in garage. Wow. What a difference these make in the quality of sound……full sound and very clear. Had a full set of samsung speaker that came with surround system out there. Put these in tonight and all I can say is wow!! What a difference! Will be ordering some more to install near our firepit in back yard.****update March 2021****These speakers are still going strong!! Have had hundreds of hours of use and they still sound as good as the first day of use. No problems with the weather at all, had to dust them off last fall, (excess dust in neighborhood from road work over the summer). Still would recommend these 100%!!

They Fit The Bill
I searched high-and-low for affordable (under $300/pr) speakers that were white, on-wall-mountable, small enough to be unobtrusive on the wall and yet large enough to have some modest bass response. Based on my requirements I knew I couldn’t be too picky. I also did not need my speakers to handle high volume. I just needed them to connect to my 25 yo Denon receiver and make my music heard at background or slightly higher volume. However, the idea of installing a $130 pair of “outdoor” speakers in my house rubbed my snobby side the wrong way. However, I couldn’t deny that these were the only speakers I found that met my physical requirements. But of course sound is also important when it comes to choosing speakers. So I kept looking. And I found I could get a GREAT pair of wall-mountable bookshelf-sized speakers for $700. But of course that did not include brackets ($100 additional). However, these audiophile-grade speakers were not recommended for the kitchen (one of the two rooms for which I was shopping). So I figured I’d try a pair of these Polks in the kitchen and wait on the living room (at least their outdoor properties would serve well in the grease and smoke of cooking). Well, they installed very easily and they sound far better than the laptop speakers and ear buds I’ve been listening through for the past couple years. I’m sure their sound is inferior to that of the $700 speakers, but I’m happy with them. I’m even thinking of buying a second pair for the living room.

Good sounding speakers that blend into my patio cover
I used an echo dot and an amplifier inside run to these speakers outside and it works great. These sound incredible, the mounts that they come with worked perfectly and they look nice and do not look out of place on the eaves of my patio cover. Great buy.

The straight scoop..
I am an audiophile, I was looking for a desent sounding pair of outdoor speakers for my pool area. I was mostly concerned with build quality because I live in Florida and the elements can be very harsh here, especially for any type of speaker.Well, Polk delivered what I needed, the specs are great, and you can really tell when you hold this speaker that it should hold up to the elements no problem at all. The bracket system is very well done, very user friendly and very adaptable to locations of all kinds. The only thing they don’t provide is the screws for mounting, but simple enough. To my surprise, they sounded like a very good mid fi home two channel speaker set, honestly I was not expecting to sound as good as they do right out of the box. Break in time is long, but any thing of any quality (speaker wise) always is. Bass response is tight, but not over exaggerated. Bass is good, but more of a mid range shiner, vocals sound very realistic, highs are nice and clean even through MP3. However, a lot of people are Bass hungry, if you are one of them, this is not your speaker, you may want to go up to the higher end Atrium in the line that has the ported bass, that I would imagine would be enough for any outdoor event for most people.Placement also has a lot to do with sound, my speakers are overhead about 10ft off the ground, mounted horizonal, angled slightly down. (maybe 3 deg) I have them spaced about 8ft apart, this allows for good stereo sound at a short and long distance, that works with my area. My deck area is 30ft deep by 50ft long and was worried about this product “filling the air” but it does so nicely with a desent amp powering it. This is very well worth the money, and a great product, hard to find it dissapointing by any means for this price.

Best Bang For the Buck
I have been installing surround sound theatres in my homes for years… I was always the “First Kid On the Block” type. Also as a former accomplished musician amps, speakers and wires everwhere has been my plight for some 55 years (thats scary).I have had the pleasure of owning speakers of all types and costs and can honestly say that polk has been my favorite choice as it provides a speaker array that can handle high watt output (8-4 ohm) and a full spectrum of audio range that is essential in obtaining a quality sound. The days of inter-modular distortion… “barking speakers” are pretty much gone from all makers shelves. But the Polk Atrium Series is a well made indoor/outdoor speaker that is perfect for your pool side, patio or onboard boat needs. However if you are looking for more punchy bass… I recommend upgrading to to Polks 6 series as the larger main speaker (woofer) has a more effective lower range. I have owned and opperated the Polk Atrium 4 in a number of differant venues with great enjoyment. In my opinion the 4 series is a great all-weather speaker that is easy to install (comes with all the hardware) and if you have a smaller budjet 2-4 sets will fill your pool or linea area with music. However when ever possible adding two larger Atrium 6 series cabinets will enlarge your music spectrum (bass) and have a noticable improvement. I recommend placing your larger set under a soffit or at a closer quarter area to help enhance the speakers performance… becuase sound waves are all about moving air! Even the smaller Atrium 4 can sound more bass driven when placed in a more confined area that allows it to reflect/bombast more confined air. Do not be affraid to try out locations when installing multiple sets… enjoy! Tom Maroney retired Construction Engineer Boston, Massachusetts.

Great Purchase for Value
These are great speakers for a small outdoor area. The sound quality is not 100% when the volume is all the way up… But still serves its purpose.

Not bad
I put these on my patio and they sounded fine, not mind blowing. I bought a pair of Klipsch that I got on sale at Costco, just because they were nicely priced. So, I decided to put these in my garage and the Klipsch on the patio. Very big difference in sound. The Klipsch totally blew me away, So, I put these in my garage and they sound much better. I think these work much better in smaller areas as the sound fades when used outside. Still, I found them to be well worth the $ and love them in my garage. The 5 stars are how they perform in my garage. They seemed to be weather resistant when I had them mounted outside. Excellent mounting system.

Very Great bang for the buck!
Surprising sound! I got this set up cover an area in my yard about 40ft from where the speakers were to be installed. They were replacing a set of 6″ loudspeakers that didn’t like being left outside.I know it can take time to break speakers in, and they sounded pretty flat right out of the box. So I let them run for 12 hours, and while there was some improvement I still wasn’t happy. But over the next 12 hours they really started to come into their own, and continued to improve still after that. They probably have about 50 hours on them now and I’m quite impressed, sound quality is excellent and when you’re within 25ft of them there’s pretty decent bass as well.I’d have loved to get the Atrium6’s, but at nearly twice the price it wasn’t worth it, and after having these for a couple months now I’m extremely happy with these 5’s.

Pleased overall
For $100 these are some pretty good overall outdoor speakers. I had a pair of JBL outdoors that developed some buzzing and pops so I needed a replacement and I went with these. For reference, every other speaker I own (except for a pair in the garage) is JBL, this was my first Polk experience.Generally speaking they are a solid set of speakers. They give a pretty balanced sound all around but lack a little fullness in the lower mid-range. This is particularly noticeable when playing orchestral type music like film scores or piano heavy music. Going from the lower mids to bass is where they really start to have trouble. For the size of the speaker I certainly wasn’t expecting to really “feel” bass but these do drop off noticeably in the lower frequency ranges. If there’s something to knock with the Atrium 4’s, that’s it. With other types of music (country, rock, etc…) those issues aren’t as noticeable. With that said they offer a nice high end treble sound that is pleasing to the ear. Overall the tone is brighter than I generally prefer (all of my JBL’s have a warmer tone) but it certainly isn’t a deal breaker for me. They don’t by any stretch of the imagination sound unpleasant. For our purposes, general entertaining…using them for music outside while we do yard work…, they fit the bill very nicely. For $100 I am overall satisfied with this purchase. If you can afford to, or if a flatter overall response is important, then I’d probably look at something a little more expensive. If you are comfortable giving up some sound quality or if budget is an issue then certainly gives these a serious look.Installing these babies was an absolute breeze. The mounting hardware supplied by Polk is virtually idiot proof. It simply could not be any easier to mount these speakers. The installation deserves 5 stars. The fact that they are virtually weatherproof is also a plus, you can mount them just about anywhere without fear of damage from the elements. One other thing I really liked was the ability to swivel and aim the speakers to exactly where I wanted them (this could not be done with our JBL’s these replaced).Power handling has not been an issue for me. I’ve got them hooked up to a 120 watt receiver and they been flawless to this point even at high volumes. We have a relatively large back yard so it takes some juice to disperse the sound and the Atriums are more than capable of taking it.I’ll summarize this way; if you’re looking for an inexpensive way to get good quality sound outdoors with something that is ridiculously easy to install then the Atrium 4 deserves strong consideration. If you can afford to get in to an upgraded version then I would probably look in that direction solely for a better bass-lower midrange performance.

Very good sound just make sure your amp is powerful enough!
Let’s first talk about the speaker’s they’re excellent as long as you have a powerful enough amp for them a lot of people on here if said that sometimes the sound on these comes out a little bit too much trouble but that’s usually because the amplifier is not producing enough power or the treble settings are incorrect. I tried hooking these up to a standard amplifier that provided what was rated at 50 watts per Channel and that was much underpowered for them when I upgraded them to 100 watts per Channel and actually using a quality Onkyo amplifier I found out that they produce very crisp clean and fairly good bass notes with extremely good 3D sound to me and more than enough to fill my entire backyard with sound around the pool. Now let’s talk about the speaker’s himself as far as build quality of course Paul cuz a good name the atrium for speakers are very good quality build I’ve used many of different polk Brand Products as well as other ones from bose and Kiplish, which of all sounded amazing and also had pretty good qualities this one here though seems to be built very sturdily I have to say that the indexes when rotating the speaker allowed to lock in the position the screws on the side keep it in position extremely well by forcing the index all the way against the side of the speaker which keeps it locked at that position no bass will allow it to shake loose. My only complaint about these is the fact that they have bad connectors on the back they seem as though it’ll be a corrosion problem in the near future even though they’re mounted up underneath my gutters and overhang where they will not get direct rain on them I still think the humidity will cause corrosion there and of course there is not much to do about this I do suggest adding a little bit of silicone around that connection it will keep it from doing much corroding but otherwise the speaker seem to be very well and they blend extremely well on a white garage most people asked where the sound was coming from and did not believe it when I show them the size of the speakers.I do highly recommend these I would buy them again I think for the price they’re extremely well I would not buy The Atrium 5 which are more than double the price with little quality difference.

First impression… happy. Second impression… even happier!
UPDATE 10/16:The more I use them, the better they sound. I did do one more comparison with what I thought were going to be serious competition—and I can say that at 1/3 the price, these still do the trick the right way. The others had a different feel and I thought without any equalization they were a bit clearer….but the issue was bass, all in the wrong way. Simply put, it was not natural. The Atrium’s were much better and overall were a much better package.ORIGINAL:I have a small space that I needed some speakers and the space is not outdoors but is subject to having to live in a [most of the time] non-conditioned space. I had tried some others without being impressed and based on dimensions I thought that the Atrium 4 was going to be too big, but I ordered them to see for myself as it never described the dimensions with or without the bracket. Thankfully I did. They are proportionate to the size of the mid-driver and the mounting is secure.Sound wise… I am impressed. What I was missing before with the garbage speakers that were pre-installed was completely addressed and then some with these. Not sure how these would fare in a more open space, but, I would look at the larger siblings for that application. Went through some music selection and everything that I played was correct— vocals, instruments– they reproduced. Not going to say they were perfect— but for the price and the fact they were decently compact and included a sturdy bracket system…. I am happy with them.

Great Sounding Speakers
I have 9 pairs of speakers that are in my whole house audio system. Some are high end professionally installed speakers. Some are ones that I have added to the system. The Atrium 5s are the best, without a doubt. I have a second story deck with a hardscaped patio below. I have a pair of these speakers both above and below the deck. They are amazing for any nonaudiophile speaker and at this price point are untouchable. I’ve always found that I like Polk audio speakers, but never owned any until now. They have great sounding crisp highs. These are connected to 2 channels of a 4 ohm 12 channel HTD amp, 30 watts/channel.I highly recommend them.I have a friend who bought a pair also. He mounted them on his fence surrounding his pool. They sound fabulous there also.

Not nearly as good as Definitive Technology AW 5500 – and I am picky – No bass on the Polk. I have both and I am disappointed with the Polk speakers – the Definitive Technology AW 5500 speakers are more expensive but have more clarity and more bass then the Polk speakers. Add a subwoofer for an amazing sound experience!

Full, rich and balanced sound from a relatively small speaker!
At their price point, these speakers represent the absolute best value you will find, period. I was in the market for some outdoor speakers to go with a 100 inch projector screen for my terrace. I’ve been a user of Polk Audio for many years, in fact, my home theater is comprised of polk audio tsi’s except for the main speakers which are Bowers and Wilkins. Long story short I’m a fan of more “relaxed” speakers that let you enjoy the sound for longer periods of time without any ear fatigue.Once I decided that a 4 1/2 inch cone would suffice (I’m not trying to start a war with my neighbors here) I pulled the trigger on these. I could not be more happier with my purchase. Paired with my old trusty Denon Receiver in Zone 2, and without any EQ or any crossover for that matter, these speakers have proved themselves to be an absolute bargain. Speaker imaging is spot on with plenty of detail and separation for a nice, ample and defined sound stage that makes the speakers virtually invisible. Contrary to what many have stated, I have found the bass response on these to be more than enough considering their size and the acoustic properties of my terrace (they are mounted to a concrete wall and the area is roofed). You can clearly define all the highs and lows and since its a Polk those tweeters wont be overly aggressive , the only thing you will not get is the earth shattering base that you can achieve by adding a sub to the mix. The speakers can easily fill all my terrace and pool area (40′ x 35′) with sound without actually having to be loud. Another area where I was pleasantly surprised was with their performance in movies, voices, music and special effects all shine through effortlessly at any volume and yes, they can get VERY loud if you want to push them.So that’s that, if your in the market for outdoor speakers I would not hesitate to check these out as long as you provide adequate power with a dedicated amp or receiver you should be good to go. Give them a proper break in and enjoy!
