Great keyboard, but terrible documentation, customer support, and faulty software.
It’s probably well-known by now that you need the Synapse software to unlock a good chunk of features this keyboard has, but did you also know that the incredibly terribly written manual also neglects to mention details like needing to download additional software and offers misleading information? Yeah, neither did I, but after spending 3 hours with Razer technical support I found that to be the case. One hour was spent with an agent who kept putting me on a silent hold and wouldn’t respond and two hours with another agent who put me on hold a lot as she came to grips with the fact that what I saw on my screen didn’t match what was on hers plus needing time to research/request help from people on her end.So, what did I discover?Well, one of the features of this keyboard is creating macros, yes? That extra row of keys on the left-hand side labeled M1-M5? Looking at the attached picture, one would think you press a key-combo (Function + F9), press whatever you want the macro to be, press the key-combo again, then one of the M-buttons, and from now on any time you press that Macro key you’ll repeat what you just made, yes? Nope, that’s not entirely how it works. Oh, you MADE a macro, sure, but the keyboard somehow doesn’t already know how to use it even if you have Synapse installed. No, what you need to do is go to the Dashboard of the Synapse software, click Modules, and download the module for Macro. THEN you can actually use the macro you made. Do you see anything similar to “Download the Macro Module in the Dashboard” in the attached picture? No, no you do not. Minor detail, I suppose, but when giving a step-by-step, skipping the FIRST step is very counterproductive.Another fun little fact is, if you look at the picture, you’ll see key combos for how to change the lighting patterns and colors. Function key + CTRL + a number and you’ll have a different pattern. Press that combo again and you change colors. Seems pretty simple, right? Wrong. Apparently, that’s an EXAMPLE chart…just without the word “Example” anywhere on the page. The second agent on the phone merely referred me to YouTube videos on how to program these in because, I suppose, they don’t have example keyboards and software to use and have to rely on screenshots and knowledge-base articles. I’ve only had this keyboard in my possession for a day, so I haven’t had time to watch YouTube videos on how to decipher the puzzle that is the Chroma Effects. Obviously, since the combos listed in the manual don’t do squat, I have to figure out something else.I even had to instruct the agent on how the Gaming Mode function worked because the manual doesn’t mention that having it “off” in the Synapse software means it is then toggled by the key combo, whereas having it “Enabled In-Game” does exactly that and “Always” means it is literally always on no matter what you do (or until you turn it off in Synapse).A fun bonus was when the ‘R’ key on this brand-new keyboard stopped working for some reason while I was still testing it. At that time, I had nothing programmed and was merely installing the Synapse software. Every other key worked, but ‘R’ just…was taking a break, a nap, or was on hiatus while the rest of the keyboard was still functional. I thought I had a defective keyboard because, let’s be honest, I had a manual telling me to do things that didn’t work so having a specific key not function seemed to confirm something was wrong with it. Shortly after a reboot, the key was working again, as you can tell by the fact I’m not typing in a strange way.I have a word or two for whatever absentminded professor wrote this documentation: find someone who hasn’t used the keyboard before and have them follow the manual you created and see how well it goes. THEN make the necessary corrections before you send it off with the product. I’d use other, more colorful words, but Amazon would not allow me to actually post this. I’d also advise Razer to provide actual products and software suites for their support representatives to use, so they can accurately answer questions, but something tells me they aren’t concerned with customer satisfaction. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be sending out poorly-written manuals with their products. Razer also has this bizarre obsession with offering to replace products rather than doing anything that can even remotely be called “troubleshooting”, so adjust your expectations accordingly when purchasing ANY Razer products. For example, I purchased a Deathadder V2 mouse over a year ago and contacted Razer regarding cosmetic damage that was occurring because of normal use. Their solution was to use up three weeks of my time by sending a replacement mouse and tape grips instead of just having a way to fix the cosmetic damage. And yes, I know this is not exactly a place where Razer looks for feedback and acts on it, so that’s why I’ve copied and pasted this into a document to send it right to them. I am a simple person with regard to the concept of having proper expectations. If Razer advertises a product can do something, it should be able to do it. If the manual that comes with a product provides instructions on how to do something, following those instructions should work. Finding out that there’s missing information or that the listed information doesn’t work at all does not build consumer confidence or satisfaction. I’d almost know it down to 2-stars for that, but I’m sure the keyboard itself works perfectly fine…though I may adjust my rating and review to reflect that in the future if that changes. Unlike most who say this sort of thing in their reviews, I DO adjust mine.Update: May 5, 2023 – So I contacted Razer “Support” through their site and used the chat function. After describing the problem, the agent immediately jumped to the concept of performing an RMA replacement. As someone who purchased this thing on May 1, 2023, and received it three days later, I’d go through Amazon if I wanted to do that (which I’m starting to consider). As part of the troubleshooting, the agent suggested I disconnect the keyboard, press and hold Escape+Caps+Space, connect the USB, and let go of the keys afterward. Congratulations! I now have a keyboard in Demo Mode that doesn’t respond to input. I had to connect up another keyboard to look up (and realize) I had to perform the same steps to take it out of Demo Mode. So, not only is Razer “Support” obsessed with RMAing products for trivial things, but they’re also giving out terrible troubleshooting instructions without providing all the details. That knocks an otherwise good keyboard down from 3-stars (due to the documentation and poor customer service) to 2-stars (due to the absolutely terrible customer service). If I wasn’t stuck in a place that literally prevents me from returning this product, at least for the next 15 days, I would be doing so. Instead, I’m trying to unlock the full usage of a product I’m paying for. I’m starting to realize my mistake. To summarize: I need the Synapse software to use macros. I need to turn off/disable the Synapse software to use the Chroma Effect key binds, but then I can’t use macros. Absolutely *Brilliant*, Razer. Note: that was sarcasm.Update 2: May 18, 2023 – The keyboard developed an ADDITIONAL problem: the Control key would randomly act like it was stuck. So, for example, if you held down Control and pressed Escape, the Start Menu would pop up, right? Now imagine it doing that without holding down Control. Now imagine this kind of “undocumented feature” also applied to any other key you pressed. To fix this, I could press both Control keys at the same time, using Alt+Ctrl+Del, putting the keyboard into/out of Demo Mode, or exit the Synapse software. However, if I EVER intend to use Macros with this thing, I need the Synapse software…and that software is causing the problem. I did not intend to spend nearly $300 on this keyboard and insurance just to have to work around poor programming and poor documentation. Razer has seriously dropped the ball on this and I’ve been dealing with 2 weeks of issues. As compensation, they’ve offered me numerous apologies in a template format, which truly shows they couldn’t care less. I’m NEVER purchasing another Razer product and I highly encourage anyone reading this to shop elsewhere. From 2-stars down to 1.

A really good keyboard but way over priced.
While this is one of the nicest keyboards I’ve had the pleasurer to type on it does have some simple flaws that can be addressed by the manufacturer. Reviewed Version had the Razer yellow switches as I prefer the linear switches for the quiet typing.CONS:The first simple thing is the media keys. You can not tell what each one does at a glance as the embossed characters are next to impossible to see especially when the back lighting is used. (to the manufacturer) Paint them white for the users to see. You need to memorize what they do to use them. Not an issue once you memorize what they do but a visual que helps tremendously. The next fixable flaw is the price. While I do enjoy gaming and typing on the is keyboard it is not worth the premium price tag for a corded keyboard. $230+ USD is just not justified for this board even with its options. Wait till the price drops before purchasing.Next the major flaw I found is the side macro keys. On the left side of the board are 3 macro keys that every time you try to move the keyboard you press them. There is no simple fix for this but I just disabled them in Synapse 3 so as I don’t seem to use them anyways.PRO’s:This board is one of the most well rounded boards I have every seen. It both games well with its quick actuating keys and productivity options allow you to use this board in almost any scenario. The keys actuate quicker than Cherry MX reds (what my last keyboard had) giving you a leg up in games and for those that are quick typists the need to press the key all the way is unnecessary, a help but also a hinderance if you have fat fingers. I don’t have fat fingers so it is a pleasure to type on.The reason I never purchased a Razer keyboard before now is that the cases were made of plastic allowing them to flex where as this board has an aluminum case giving it the required rigidity that I expect from a premium keyboard.I am truly enjoying the plush wrist rest that comes with this board. Every other board that I have had has had a plastic wrist rest until this one. I can honestly say this is a big deal compared with other boards I have used. What more can I say on this other than you really need to try it out if you can find one on display some where. You will love the plush wrist rest.If you already have other Razer products having Razer Synapse 3 is no big deal and you are used to how to work the program but for those wishing to keep extra programs off there PC this is not the keyboard for you. For those that don’t mind this program is needed to disable, change or edit macro keys. Synapse does use a bit of system resources so be warned. I personally have the Kraken Ultimate head set, Tartarus Pro gaming pad, Viper Ultimate mouse, Fire fly V2 mouse pad and now the BlackWidow V4 Pro so running the Synapse 3 program is necessary for lighting controls.A feature I find cool is that if you do not need a USB passthrough in the keyboard you can use only one cord to the keyboard limiting the amount of wire clutter that PC’s create. Of course on the other hand is if you use that feature there are two cords not bundled together adding to the clutter.Over All Thoughts:Excellent keyboard but overpriced.Good for both productivity and gaming.Comfortable to use with quick response.Has some flaws but there are work arounds.Needs Synapse 3 installed to use most features.Best lighting of all of Razers keyboard options.

Feels great but needs better QC.
The media could not be loaded.
Keystrokes are moderate volume. 3 buttons on left side panel of keyboard. Was quick to setup after a quick restart with razer synapse installed. Tons of assignable keys and knobs available.Only real issues are that they shipped the box with no outer box (theft risk – my first one vanished before it even got to the final delivery truck) and the quality control needs work (glue on the keyboard body leading to a sticky right shift key as seen in the video.)Tried to speak with razer support on the phone but they had a default support script that was wasteful of my time as they tried to get me to use canned air or plug it into a different computer while ignoring what I was communicating about adhesive or stickiness. After asking for a supervisor they instead referred me to contact Amazon support and they were perfectly able to remedy the situation through return/reorder.That said, the keyboard seems nice enough that I’ll try one last time. Here’s hoping that third try is the charm. 🤷♂️. Minus the qc issue, it seems like a great keyboard.Update 1: Finally got my third keyboard ordered/received and this one seems to be problem free to the best of my ability to discern upon the first few minutes of use.Wrist rest is comfortable, hopefully that remains the case after the weather gets warmer.Update 2: been using the keyboard for a little while now. Compared to other keyboards the Escape key takes a little bit of time to get used to because you may be used to reaching for escape and end up hitting the command dial at first. The rolling volume knob feels pretty good once you get used to using it. I think I had orange switches last time and these feel audibly more mellow than my last keyboard thankfully. As always I use the hell out of a toggle on one of my macro keys to mute and unmute my primary microphone and I’m thankful that the five macro keys are back because of that. Haven’t found myself using the keys on the side of the keyboard quite yet but we’ll see if I find the purpose for them still.

Best Keyboard I’ve had
This is nearly perfect keyboard. I spent a long time (20+ years) trying to find which keyboard worked for me. I went through several hundreds of IBM, corsair, razer, steelseries, and logitech keyboards. Mechanical, linear, tactile, and everything else. Over the years, I’ve easily spent over $4000 on keyboards alone. Everything felt either too clunky, too loud, too soft, not impactful enough, cheap, overdesigned, or underdesigned.**The Good**The simplicities of this board is what make it what it is. From the side piece functionality, to the knobs, to the software. Everything has a purpose, and is optional. A modular keyboard, which allows for all the functionality a gamer would need. It has 5 standard macro buttons, 3 side panel buttons, and a fully customizable keyset. It takes up minimal space, and is made of pretty high quality material. Now, the switches… These switches are the best. Yellow mechanical are silent enough to not be click clacking, but impactful enough to really give it that feeling that you clicked something. The actuation points are on point. Lastly the brightness. This lights up my room, it’s actually brighter than my computer.**The Bad**So, there are some improvements to be had.1. The lenses on the media keys should be see through, so you can see which buttons you’re pressing. Not a huge deal, but none-the-less, will improve the experience.2. The cords that come with the keyboard are modular, meaning you can disconnect the cords from the keyboard. Now normally, this would good, and it does a great job at staying in. However, if you move the keyboard too much, or I’m guessing unplug and replug. The fitting will eventually ware. Even now, with a brand new keyboard, it’ll disconnect sometimes in the middle of gaming. That being said, the grips on the bottom with the padding do a really good job at keeping it in place.

Keyboard is good unlike razer mice
Razer mice might be absolute junk that breaks after minor use but this keyboard is an absolute unit. It might be one of few razer products that actually is worth the price!

Great keyboard but extra keys/knobs/buttons get in the way.
Love the feel of the keys, quality of keyboard, wrist rest, but the rotator knob at top left of kb, interferes with quickly finding escape by touch. I’m sure I’ll get used to it but for it’s frustrating to reach for the esc key and hit the knob instead.

Bright lights, but difficult to type on
This keyboard has some great features, including bright RGB lighting and programmable macros. However, the media keys were not intuitive and made typing difficult for me even after a week of use. The magnetic wrist rest was a nice touch, but ultimately I struggled with the keyboard’s design. Overall, this product is average and may work well for those who prioritize gaming functions over typing comfort.

This keyboard is very expensive, but every dollar of your purchase is returned to you in the form of quality. The build is solid, the switches are smooth, and the macro keys are essential. Razer stepped up their game this time. If you’re considering buying, then do it.

Great keyboard with tons of features but half of those features are inaccessible without razer synapse support. Amazon did not send me a wireless dongle to connect to the keyboard to sync with razer synapse so now I just have a fancy $230 keyboard that is half limited.

Bad keyboard stabilizers
The media could not be loaded.
The space bar when pressed on the right side has a clicky scratchy resistance like a clicky switch feels it gets stuck but it shouldn’t since it a yellow linear keyboard. But when pressed on the left it smooth as butter.

This keyboard is a BEAST
I love this keyboard for all the nice & convenient features it has to offer. It is definitely pricey compared to others I own, but if you have the money to spend BUY THIS! The full size feel is great & I love it for all of my content editing. The linear yellow keys are definitely top tier also, great for less noise when gaming, filming or streaming & they don’t pick up in your mic like the clicky ones. Anyone who buys this will not regret their purchase.

I love the loud tactile keys and this keyboard has all of the extra keys for gaming… It is built well and has an amazing ARGB lighting… Expensive but worth the investment… My last Blackwidow chroma keyboard has lasted me 11 years and still works great… I would recommend this keyboard to any serious gamer :-)))

Very comfortable to use. Great quality and very convenient additional functions.
I’m not a gamer. I bought this mechanical keyboard because I work with my laptop and I needed a more comfortable way to use a keyboard. I payed a little more than usual for a keyboard because I had the opportunity to try this one before buying, and it’s worth it.Recommended!

Finally, a Blackwidow Chroma V2 successor
I had the Blackwidow Chroma V2 since it was first released and I loved it. I had tried many keyboards since that one came out, but I always went back to it because of how great it was. I recently wanted a more modern version of that one and was very excited when the V4 was announced. I got it and was not disappointed! Exactly like the Chroma V2 but better in everyway. If you want a full sized keyboard with macros, media keys, and tons of customization, this is the board for you.

Everything I don’t like in a keyboard, AND MORE. Sent it back.
Sorry, I like my razer products, but this was totally not for me. First off that price. $229? Dang. And then I am a “terrible” typer, meaning I don’t have or use “home keys”, I just have used keyboards long enough that I type by general location based on the geometry of the keyboard (and sometimes a glance). And those extra M keys along the left side really messed me up. I kept pressing them unconsciously thinking they were Tab, Shift, Control. Also, it felt squished. With the added M keys on the left side, it felt like all the rest of the keys were squished in so they fit in the same basic shape as a normal 10key keyboard. This made me not like the feel of the keyboard along with the loooooooong (deep) key press. I’ve never understood the love of mechanical keyboard. But the think I liked the least… I’m not sure what “silent” means to Razer, but to me it means no sound… soundless. It doesn’t mean a quieter clicky click clack. This is not even remotely silent. I triple checked that it was yellow switches, still waaaay too loud. So if you’re like me and the sound of the clickity clackity drives you bonkers, this is not for you. Finally, I really wanted to like this one for the replaceable keys. I have a cheap Cynosa v2 where the WASD and E are wearing off after a year of use and Razer support told me TFB. So I thought, hell let’s go top of the line. Ugh. It’s terrible. It last on my desk for about an hour of use… 55 minutes of gaming and the first time I tried to type something in Twitter, that was it.So, price, feel, click, lack of silence, squish, M keys…. Forget it. Boxed up, going back.

Amazing, sleek and FAST
Had every gen of Blackwidow, up until recently the V3.Upgraded to V4. Let me tell you, the quality is amazing. I play competitive CALL OF DUTY MWII and this thing slaps. What I love about Razer is they are truly the Apple of gaming gear. Their gear retains its value and performance just like Apple. You can’t go wrong with this keyboard, one thing to note is in this new version it is a wired connection NOT wireless.

My OCD made me clean it like an emergency…lolBut the bag and box still have some of the stuff in it.I think it’s pizza rez.If it were not for the lack of care or the 5 minutes it took to clean it I would have given 5 stars. But that was kinda a health Hazard as the person to receive it could have been allergic. Luckily I’m not and was able to clean it.I have only spent 11 minutes using it so far but in that time it seems better then my old keyboard.

Best Blackwidow yet
Now, if you’re not into wired keyboards this may not be the product for you. I prefer a wired keyboard so I was excited when the v4 pro was released. The linear razer yellow switches feel great, and I don’t end up with an angry fiance or baby by the end of my work day lol. While there is still clanking when I accidently bottom out the key. It’s still a very pleasant typing experience.During work, having the volume control and command dial at my disposal has been a God send. No more trying to get to my task bar just to make adjustments. I have been unable to get too much gaming in (mainly too lazy to switch my laptops after work), but the little bit of gaming I have done; I feel the immediate impact.Overall, I am happy with this purchase. Just wish they had an orange switch option. While I don’t miss the sound, I do miss the bump with each keystroke.

Definitely Feels Quality!!
I purchased this keyboard with the linear switches and typing on it just seems… pleasant. The standard keycaps on it feel above “Standard” and have a very nice texture. I’m an RGB geak so the underglow on a Blackwidow model is a welcome feature for sure.I’m a casual user of keyboards and I don’t seek out using every feature they have to offer. With that being said, The “Command Dial” is convenient, but I honestly don’t see myself using it very often. Here are the items I LOVE about this keyboard:1. High Quality very comfortable wrist rest2. Switches are transparent and reveal a lot of RGB lighting3. Premium feel keycaps4. Bonus Macro buttons5. Underglow lighting6. Media controls7. Separate detachable power cords for the keyboard and USB passthrough. If you don’t use the USB passthrough, then you don’t need to have 2 cords coming from your keyboard.Very happy with the purchase!

Awesome keyboard so far…
I got tired of buying cheap keyboards ever year or two, so decided I’d give this one a shot. Here is my experience so far…After you plug it in and turn on the computer, it’ll find that it does not have the Synapse software, so it makes it easy to download and install. Once that happens you’ll have full control over things like your macros, brightness, media controls and much more.I’m not much of a gamer, so I got the Razer BlackWidow v4 Pro with the green “clicky” keys. Now about the keys, they are illuminated and can get very bright if you want to turn them up. However you will always want to have the lights turned on… UNLESS YOU ARE A TOUCH TYPIST.There are many lighting settings, but I prefer the plain old white non changing setting. Now since the keys are illuminated, you’ll never wear off the lettering like on those cheaper keyboards. The only drawback I’ve found so far is that this keyboard model is so new, I’ve been unable to find a dedicated dust cover for it anywhere.

Wow!
My son loves this keyboard. He’s building his own computer and this was the gamer keyboard that he wanted. It’s just wow , has a fast forward and pause dial, I mean who creates that… it’s just wow!

Worth the high cost
I was skeptical about getting this keyboard due to the high price. I had bought the huntsman v2 analog before this and was having buyers remorse after. I then saw a few reviews on this keyboard and wanted to try it, if I didn’t like it I’d return it not a big deal. The second I pressed any key I knew this was the one, returned the huntsman v2 analog and haven’t looked at any other keyboards since. The customization avaliable in this keyboard is insane and if you pair it with the viper v2 pro or deathadder v3 pro you’re getting 8000 hz polling rate with the keyboard and 4000 hz with your mouse if you get the dongle. If youre hesitant due to the price, trust me when I say the investment is worth it.

Fantastic keyboard
This keyboard is awesome the productivity you can do with this is pretty crazy, yes it costs a pretty penny but this is a keyboard that is actually worth the price. From the looks to how it feels I’d say I’m pretty damn happy with spending the money on such a fantastic keyboard

Excelente calidad

Peer Pressure Review LOL
Worth every dollar. Been using budget membrane keyboards for the past few years. Took a leap of faith with this one cause my new setup is Razer themed and I really wanted macros on the side. The wrist rest is a straight luxury; don’t even think I can buy another keyboard without it.This keyboard is a must buy if you’re a gamer, even more so if you’re a digital artist. You can program the macros and dial to fit your needs (like changing your brush sizes with the dial for example)Should you spend over $300 CAD on a keyboard? No, you don’t need to. However, let me peer pressure you into buying this if you want a fully decked out gaming keyboard with all the bells and whistles…just put it in your cart and submit your order

El mejor teclado que he tenido
La mejor compra, en cuanto a teclados, qué he realizado en mucho tiempo, como siempre Razer demuestra porque es una de las mejores marcas
