    nice improvement over halogen

the light is very bright and adjustable .It is particularly nice to not have the loud fan that was needed with a halogen bulb. The only thing so far is that I have not figured out the best way to combat its inherent top heavy configuration without making it too cumbersome.

    Excellent

We are using this light to do tissue dissections in our lab. It’s working very well for our purposes.Because it uses LED bulbs it does not produce heat like normal lamps.Doesn’t take up much bench space.Goosenecks are easily adjustable. The light is more in the bright white- blue range. This doesn’t make a difference for us, but it’s worth noting.Overall, quite pleased with the product. A++, would buy again.

    Nice lighting output

Gives off high intensity light. No heat because it’s LED based. One issue I had was when the unit was turned off, the lights would flash once in a while. After I disassembled the device, I saw that the manufacturer wired the switch incorrectly. They had the neutral going to the switch instead of the hot wire from the 120V line. After wiring it correctly, the flashing stopped as predicted.

Good light output and the goosenecks are relatively rigid. Everything seems pretty well made for the price. Makes soldering or working under the microscope a lot easier. Although, the illumination is obviously not as even as a ring light.

    Great for Fly Tying

As an aging fly fisher, I found I needed better light when tying flies. I have been using this dual bulb lamb for almost a year and have found it to work perfectly, especially when placed to my right at about 2 o’clock and shining onto the vise. Would recommend highly.

If you want a sturdy light source for macrophotography or viewing specimens with a microscope, then do not buy this product. Arms do not stay in place at all, ZERO precision in light placement….base is way too light, meaning you have to stop and hold the stand down when moving the lights to desired position. Arms are VERY hard to bend yet shake very loosely where attached on stand, despite proper tightening. Basically a drastically over-priced reading lamp. Nothing more.

    great LED light

This is a very good value microscope light. The design is compact, the light intensity is adjustable, the flexible arms are strong enough not to sag, yet easy to position, and being a LED light, it does not get hot. Compared to other lights with similar capabilities, it is extremely good value for money. The only disadvantages are that the light heads themselves are a bit on the bulky side, and there is no means for focusing the light. However, the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. Highly recommended!

    Good price and very sturdy!

If you need a light source for working on small objects or for illumination for a reflecting microscope, you need this. I purchased this for work with both AmScope 20X to 80X Binocular Stereo Microscope for additional illuminated and also to use for other fine work that I do that needs illumination. I recently purchased a biological microscope from Amazon that had plenty of transmitted light but no reflective light. This is an LED light with plenty of power and has adjustable brightness. Would recommend this to anyone needing to use reflective light in their work. The price is well worth it and I was surprised at the heavy weight and sturdy build of the unit.

I’ve been using this with an olympus dissecting microscope for just about a year now. It replaced a 150W schott light source. I use this light for work, and I leave it on for about 30hrs/week.The light paid for itself as with my old schott I was going through an $8 bulb per month this light has worked flawlessly and uses a lot less electricity.also I no longer burn my fingers on the ends (as I did on occasion with the schott).

    Very practical

I have been using several types of microscope lights: fluorescent, quartz-halogen and LED. This light from AmScope has the following characteristics: – Good light output, especially for an LED light, which have generally not been as bright as quartz-halogen – Fairly long goose-neck (24″ compared to my older 12″ goose-neck LED light – Low power consumption, less heat; no cooling fan, no vibration – variable light output – expected to be rugged: LED’s should last a long time. What I would be even nicer: – longer goose-neck, say 36″ – 12V DC power option.Overall, a highly recommended product.

Great Quality and Adequate Light Provided

Used these in a class for the first time and the students liked them. The quality is great upon initial inspection and use, but the light they provide, while more than adequate, is not quite as bright as a couple of halogen illuminators that I also use. Will have to see how they hold up over time. The halogen illuminators have been in use for three years without a hitch.

    improvement

I have been doing rework for years. with time, we switched from 0805 to 0603, to 0402 t0 0201 , now I am working with 01005.I have boom microscope that magnifes up to x45 , x 90 if you change the eyepieces from x10 to x20.I never used x20 because the image is too dimm and the microscope head is too low for soldering. These are the 2 main problems with my microscope.Originally it came with fluorescent tube iluminator ring. It was ok but I replaced it with LED ring.LED ring is much brighter than fluorescent but still gets in the way of soldering iron.Still at the maximum magnification the image gets dimm.I replaced LED ring with the gooseneck iluminator today.2 observations:1. the old LED ring created wide diffused field of light. the goosenecks create 2 very intense spotlights.when directed at the same spot from 2 angles the image is bright, even at the max. magnification, and no shadows.2. I used zip ties to tie the the goosenecks to the microscope support structure behind the microscope head.I also tied the tubes to the microscope boom higher up.That makes the setup very stable – once you bend the tubes to the right position, it stays there.Othervise they are easy to knock around. That resulted in much more room for manuvering the soldering iron.I showed the illuminator to other people in the lab. They liked it and most likely will buy it.Money well spent.

Had to return, but Amazon took it back

I wish i could write up a great review, but only one arm worked. Therefore, I returned the item. Amazon was great to work with, as I just had to drop the item off at a Whole Foods. I went another direction for lighting, since QC is, obviously, not a big concern.

WARNING: The lights may be faulty and if they are, you likely will not get a replacement.

The lights are bright, however one of my lights turned from the temperature was supposed to be to a warmer color that is slightly dimmer. This is a problem for me because I make realistic illustrations of insects and I need the right temperature light to view the colors of the specimen correctly. I contacted customer service within my warranty period of a year and explained my situation. I was told that they would not replace the item for one that works properly. They said that I could send it in and they would fix it, however after paying to ship it to Amscope and back it would have likely been around $35, which was about half of the original price that I bought the entire item for ($75). I also explained that I was concerned that if that went wrong then I may have gotten a defective item and something else may also go wrong in the future. They would still not replace it. So now I am stuck with this one, hopefully nothing else goes wrong.

Convenient, stays in place, adjustable brightness important

I do a lot of electronics projects at home and lighting is always an issue. This is a decent setup that allows me to control the brightness (reduce glare) and of course, put the light where I need it. The flexible arms hold their position well. The base is heavy enough that it’s not tipsy. I saw cheaper versions of this and I thought maybe this would be a better quality product so I went with it. I have no way of knowing if I could have gotten as good with less $, but I’m happy with this light.

Depends on what you are going to use it for.

Other reviews seem accurate. I agree that the light is very bright. It is also very blue. For me, this is a disadvantage – I use the microscope for examining and photographing mineral specimens and the blue light washes out the color of the minerals. Quartz light gives a better color rendition – or at least gives me the color temperature my old school brain is expecting. With the two light fields focused, the light covers about 3/4 to 1″.One other issue is that since LED requires less power that quartz lights, the base unit is really light. When I move the goose neck to adjust the light to the appropriate field, the base moves first. Annoying, but not fatal. The unit seems sturdy.

    Good but…

Very bright. I’ve used this to illuminate patterned silicon wafers for inspection under a 200x microscope. Plenty of light to see some very tiny, hard to discern stuff. Smooth adjustment controls. Flexible goosenecks that stay exactly where you put them. Cool operation……. but the base isn’t heavy enough to keep the lamp from tipping over if the heads are too far off to one side. Also, the screw collars at the base of the goosenecks tend to loosten easily. I’d like it better if the two lights could be individually controlled. None of these problems are show stoppers. It’s a good light, not great.

    an okay microscope light

One of the best available, but with plenty of room left for improvement. The LEDs are not binned, meaning one might be blue, and the other white, as I experienced. A cyanoacetate based glue product is used to secure ends of the flexible conduit, and not necessarily applied with the best care–some of it even made assembly difficult by seizing up one of the nut-rings. I also noticed a bulge in the cord from where the wire lock-up was not correctly applied. That said, the unit is actually an 8W LED lamp, with high quality optics to focus the light precisely, and the linear potentiometer works very smoothly without flicker. In the end, this is the most important function. I’d buy one again, but also hope the manufacturer is somewhat less careless in executing the product’s design. If put together cleanly, this has the potential to be one of the finest lights one could buy.

A Good Light for the Money

This is a very good light for the money. The fitting of the lamp units to the base seem to be cheaply made, but they do secure the units to the base. Provides good light. “6500K” is written on the lamps, which answers a question asked in other postings. Yes, the base could be heavier, which would make the light more stable. However, by adjusting the lamps simultaneously on both sides one can avoid tipping without much difficulty.

    Worth it

Yeah, it’s expensive. But given that the 3W LEDs in each stalk produce light that’s equivalent to about 15W to 30W of incandescent, it’s not bad at all. Plus they don’t burn out like the typical $10 tungsten bulbs do. This lamp at 25% setting is about as bright as a 10W 12V microscope bulb, then it gets about as bright as you can stand as you go towards 100% (the variable brightness feature is great!). The color of this lamp is a very “white” white, where the tungsten bulbs are more of a yellowish color; it’s a matter of preference as to which you will prefer. I use both light sources with my stereo microscope and it works extremely well.Shipping from Amazon fulfillment was no problem, and it was free; it took about 3 days to get here using OnTrac.

Bought for the dissection microscope of the lab. Pretty good! Not perfect, but pretty good

I’m delighted that the light color of the LEDs is pretty well matched. The variance in brightness afforded by the slider is pretty good, but it would be nice if they could go a little brighter and a little dimmer. The unit is surprisingly sturdy, but when the lights are bent far away from the base, its weight is not enough to keep it from toppling over, but most of the time it does an okay job of staying put.I’m impressed with the cleanliness and sturdiness of the build.I would always prefer that the power supply be built into the base unit, in this case it would be good as it would add some extra weight to the base, too.The external power supply (wall wart style) is at least sturdy. The air temperature at home is 70F, on minimum brightness, the LEDs only reach 77F. On maximum brightness they reach 84F. Run time was about 5 minutes.I think the price of the unit is a little high, given it’s just two LEDs on goosenecks and a brightness slider, but at least it is a quality product and I haven’t seen many competitive options available.

    Barely rates an OK

This light just gets in the way of my swing arm microscope. It is lightweight. Must it really be so large an imposing? The feet are hard plastic and allow the base to skid on the work surface. The power cube has a short cord making it hard to place the thing where you most want it. You’ll need an extendsion cord. The slider knob feels cheap like what it is: cheap plastic. If you extend the lights into the “wrong” position the unit is unbalanced and tips. The parts that screw together to attach the lamp arms are just shoddily made cast metal and not machined. I could not get the threads started on one side and when I did the connection would not bottom out and the tube just wobbled in the socket. Finally, I took a wrench and really torqued it down and then it worked properly. All told, I’m not impressed with this poorly made gadget. It’s kind of junky. However, it does cast a good amount of light. I give an OK for that.

Satisfactory and a good value. Some limitations for photography

This light seems well made and is sturdier than I anticipated. It is adequately bright for my photographic use at 40x and 100x (sample picture attached). Seems like a good value for the price. A few limitations:1. I would prefer a brighter light for some other photographic and visual modes. That said, this is good light for the price and so far works well;2. The two lights are not independently adjustable and do not have focusing lenses or optional diffusers. This has not been a problem, but don’t be surprised;3. I keep my microscope covered, so the lights need to be swung out of the way when not in use and then relocated at the next use. This requires a bit of experimentation and practice to avoid loosening the connections to the power supply.2. The color temperature is much higher than my microscope’s internal illumination. I set the camera for a custom white balance and all is well for front illumination with this light alone. However, the light temperature mismatch with the microscope’s light makes it awkward to try to this combine front and the internal bright field illumination. One source or the other will cannot be in white balance.3. Some photographers may note that this light has a structure that presumably reflects the mix of phosphors used. Included in the photos attached are two Lightroom histograms, one showing the “smooth” histogram of my microscope’s internal LED light and one showing the “spiky” structure of this light. In some photos I have found that this results in color banding.

    Excellent all around!

This is an excellent piece of gear. I was struggling visually with reflections and a saturation issue with my microscope ring light, so I did some research and landed on this lighting system. This is an excellent anti-glare light for my microscope camera. It puts a laser beam of light anywhere you direct it. The unit itself is built like a tank. It sits nicely on my desk with its rubber feet. You can see in my photos the difference between only LED ring light and LED ring light plus the AmScope lights. The one with the AmScope is vibrant and clear.Highly recommend.

It’s an OK product, but not great value

If the headline doesn’t show a lot of enthusiasm for the AmScope light, you are correct. The best low cost products are OK performers but deliver a lot of value. I think this product is OK (I am not planning to return it), but it is pretty expensive for what it does. I would have preferred brighter lamps, but I couldn’t justify the added cost.On the plus side the controls seem to work well and the lamp brightness exceeds my minimum requirement. The base is a bit on the light weight side.On the negative side, I DONT LIKE ALL OF THE TRACKING ADS I HAVE SEEN SINCE I ORDERED THIS ITEM. I must have seen over two hundred pictures of it in just over a week, on every imaginable web site. Often there will be 5 or 6 on the same page. AmScope has probably spent $0.02 on all those ads, but I will think hard before I visit their website again.

2 strikes out of three: DOA.

I wanted to like this lighting unit. I have just returned the second unit. Maybe the third time will be the charm.Description:The base is a heavy and solid transformer with an analog rheostat dimmer switch. This part feels well made. The goose necks attach to it with a screw-ring somewhat reminiscent of the old coaxial cable attachments of yesteryear. The LEDs in the ends with a focus lens produce a bright light if they positioned very close to the specimen. The light is kind of dim unless you maneuver the light sources very close. The light has more blue in it than most. this is probably an attempt to make the light appear brighter than it is (blue is a higher frequency… i.e., higher energy… tricks the mind to believe brightness…)our first light unit arrived with one goose neck dimmer than the other. we were going to use it for a technician scanning process by if it far enough from the subject to illuminate a wide depth of field, it was too dim for details. So we decided to try it for more detailed work, at another microscope… which required the lights to be close to the subject–which it seems like it should be able to do with the flexible goose necks. However, in the very first minutes of use, one goose neck broke off from the base… wires and everything (probably why the one was dimmer than the other). we sent it back.Today we received the replacement: thanks to Amazon.com for for your speedy exchange policy! (we just sent out the old one today)Sadly the threads of one screw-ring on a goose neck were immobilized so it could not be assembled and tested. We ordered a replacement today… if the third one is DOA, we give up on this product. I will post an update when it comes in… and detail our use of the product. IF you are curious and it is > 1 week since i post this, then request an update to remind me… i am glad to help…

Good dual gooseneck lights for Swift Microscopes!

I have the Swift SW380T microscope with an LED light source from the bottom. Great scope however, sometimes the items to be viewed block that light where you need to have a light source from the top. This is where the dual gooseneck lights come in handy as shown in my pics. The only small issue is the placement of the control unit that must be located at the rear of the microscope, which is not a problem, but does kind of get in the way of the microscope power cord. As shown, it works just fine, but it could be redesigned a little better. I’m still glad I got this gooseneck light!

Quality adjustable twin led illuminator lights, useful.

For what I use it for, micro mineral crystal photography with the Canon 65mm MP-E macro lens, this gives steady light and has a sturdy, quality build. Slide-switch adjustable light; (con: simultaneous control, you cannot control each seperately). The base is heavy enough to remain steady, another plus.

I’m not totally satisfied to it. I noted some light oscillation (the right light) when full dimmerized. Not portable. Low priced.

Great little light source. The slider adjustment doesn’t provide a great amount of change in illumination but it is useful. The light is nice and bright and much more convenient than the 150W halogen based light source it replaced.

    Disappointed. Worked for 1 Month

Worked fine for a month, I actually used it maybe 5 times total and now it’s extremely dim (So dim you can’t really tell its on). Really disappointed being the amount of money spent on this item.It sure looks cool but now I have an expensive paperweight. I’d pass on this.
