The Pascal’s Wager of carpet peeing

Look, I’m not the type to leave a positive review on something that I can’t prove is working, but in this case, it’s a likely enough candidate to give credit where credit is (possibly) due.Our beloved eldest is perhaps the most anxious cat in existence. Before he came to live with us, he spent his youngest years being terrorized by an older, aggressive cat who would often ambush him in the litter box. He developed a lifelong fear of using it to pee (weirdly not for #2), and would try to pee literally anywhere else, be it on rugs, clothes that had fallen out of laundry baskets, hardwood, tile, cement, you name it. Any surface other than his actual box. Here’s a truncated list of things we have tried to calm his anxiety/keep up with his peeing:- Different types of litters- Different styles of litter boxes- Different locations for the litter box- Litter attractants- Diet changes- Deterrent in his favorite floor spots- Enzymatic cleaners to try to remove any lingering scent- Extensive veterinary testing- Consults with behaviorists- Rewarding him when he uses the litter box (recommended by behaviorist)- Retraining in a large kennel with a litter box (recommended by behaviorist)- Calming collars- Other Feliway products- Prozac (prescribed by the vet)- Gabapentin (prescribed by the vet)Nothing worked, other than an elaborate and not entirely foolproof routine of taking him to the box personally and guarding him while he was in there. We had to do this multiple times a day, and he would still sometimes try to sneak off to do his business elsewhere. So, when we moved to a one-bedroom apartment with a lot of carpet, we were prepared to immediately lose our security deposit to his anxious peeing. We were convinced the move alone would leave him emotionally shaken to his core. We armed ourselves with some of the most highly-recommended enzyme cleaners (Rocco & Roxie), and were looking into expensive waterproof covers to put on approximately 600 sq ft worth of carpet, and then cover those with washable rugs. We were ready for battle.I called our vet to ask for a light sedative for both him and his younger brother, to make the moving day less stressful, and the tech suggested that we also get these specific Feliway diffusers. Although we hadn’t had any luck with Feliway in the past, we were throwing absolutely everything we could at this, so we figured the worst they could was not work.Cut to moving day. We put both our groggy cats into the new bathroom with their litter box while the movers stomp around bringing in boxes and furniture. The second they’re gone, we plug in the diffusers, let them run for an hour, and then cautiously let the cats out. Both of them are low to the ground, skittering from one room to the next in utter confusion. Eventually Anxious Cat finds a window to plop his butt in and doesn’t move until dinner, but we spend the entire time watching him while we unpack, ready to jump up if he seems like he’s scoping out new pee spots.By the end of the day, he hasn’t used the litter box yet, and we’re starting to wonder if maybe we should close him up with it in the bathroom for the night. At least there’s no carpet in there. And then we realize … we’ve lost sight of him. We bolt up and start canvasing the apartment, only to hear the digging of little paws in litter. Slowly, we creep to the bathroom door and peer in just in time to see him hop out of the box, giving us both a look of mild confusion as he sprints off to the window. But we weren’t sure what he did. If he pooped, well, that’s nothing out of the ordinary, and there was some in the box, so it could’ve been him or his brother. We decide to lock them in the bathroom for the night, but eventually succumbed to their piteous sobbing and let them out. Come morning, there’s still no pee, but Anxious Cat is a champion at holding it until he finds the perfect spot to unleash. But finally, come afternoon, we actually manage to catch him in the act of peeing IN THE LITTER BOX. It’s a monumentous occasion, and we shower him in catnip, treats and lots of play. He’s delighted, and no longer slinking around with his belly to the floor. He’s acting like a normal cat, cautious of his new space, but enjoying the comfort of his familiar beds and toys. It’s now been two weeks, and he has done all of his business in the box, and NOWHERE ELSE in the apartment. We haven’t even taken the plastic off of all of our enzyme cleaners! His anxiety is way down in general, and so is ours. We can let him out of our sight for hours at a time without worrying that soon we’ll smell cat pee. This has been life-changing for him, and for us. I’ve never seen my little old man happier than he is now. And maybe it was just the change of scenery, the smaller space, not being able to smell the neighborhood cats who used to hang around our old house. Or maybe it’s these Feliway diffusers. I honestly have no idea. But, I’m going to keep believing in their possibly magical power and keep buying the refills if that’s what it takes to keep him happy, and keep our security deposit. So, why four stars instead of five, if this is (maybe) such a miracle product that has so improved the quality of life of both our cat and his human parents? Because it had ZERO effect on our younger cat. Usually, he’s incredibly easygoing and adapts well to change. We weren’t worried about him at all when planning the move, we figured he’d be as chill as he always is. Instead, he’s been terrified and although he has no issues with using the litter box, he’s spent most of these last two weeks hiding, jumping at every sound and refusing to play like he usually does. It’s extremely unlike him, and it’s pretty clear that the Feliway is doing nothing to help him. Which makes me think this product is very hit or miss, if it’s doing anything at all.But rather than risk eternal damnation, I choose to believe in the power of Feliway, at least when it comes to our Anxious Cat (pictured above, with the carpet he has yet to ruin).

    Beware of leaks

My 2 cats were raised in a bedroom while they were still very young and sick. Once they grew healthier and bigger, we opened the rest of the house to them but they were still shy about new places. I think this helped but I’m not sure if it was this or Time͏ that actually made them more comfortable. However, I accidentally plugged it in upside down and it leaked all over my floor. I cleaned it up and dried it off but it continued to leak. This is absolutely a consumer error on my part. Oops! Thought I’d give a reminder to not do what I did haha.

    My cat was stress licking

Like the title says my cat was stress licking from our recent move and new puppy in the house. The inside of her back leg was going bald from her licking that one spot to much. We went to the vet and they told us we should try this before the other option ( witch was steroids). You just plug it into the wall that your cat stays in the most and you are all set. It really helped her and she is all fine now!

Works Well for 2 male cats

I have 2 male cats that aren’t neutered yet and we just moved into a new apartment. I was only going to use it until I got them sniped but they haven’t been fighting as much and it seems to keep them more calm. No spraying so far when they already would’ve.The only con is after a day or so, it just smells hot and worries me. So far so good but that part is concerning.

    Skeptics turned into Believers!

I have always been skeptical about products that claim to solve pet-related issues, but after a challenging introduction between our new 1.5-year-old dog and our 9-year-old cat, I decided to give Feliway Optimum a try. And boy, am I glad I did! I want all furparents out there to know that this product really works, and that’s why I’m writing this review! When we brought our new doggo home, our feisty cat was far from pleased. Despite our efforts to provide separate spaces for each of them, our kitty showed her discontent by urinating on anything the dog had touched. We tried various cleaning products, but she would simply find another spot to mark. We were at a loss and feared that we would have to live in constant chaos. In desperation, we reached out to our vet, who recommended Feliway. I had read about Feliway multiple times before but was skeptical about the effectiveness of a simple plug-in diffuser, especially since I had heard it was a hit-or-miss solution. However, I decided that a 50/50 chance was worth the attempt, so I purchased two plugins—one for the upstairs area and one for downstairs. To our surprise, within just a couple of hours, we started noticing a subtle improvement in her behavior. We were cautious not to get our hopes up too soon, thinking it might be wishful thinking on our part. However, the following day, we realized that we had gone an entire day without cleaning up urine or witnessing our cat’s aggressive behavior towards the dog. Now, it has been 10 days since we introduced Feliway Optimum into our home, and I’m thrilled to report that things have taken a remarkable turn for the better. Both animals now sleep in the same room, and our cat occasionally walks by the dog, even sniffing or licking her head. The transformation is truly astonishing.Feliway Optimum has not only brought peace to our household but has also restored the balance between our pets. It has effectively eased our cat’s anxiety and helped her accept the presence of the new dog in her territory. The tension, hissing, swatting, and disruptive meowing have all diminished significantly.I cannot stress enough how grateful we are for Feliway Optimum. It has been a game-changer for our furry family members and for us as well. If you’re facing a similar situation, I strongly recommend giving this product a try. While it may not work for every single case, the potential benefits are well worth the investment. Our experience has been overwhelmingly positive, and we couldn’t be happier with the results.

Works but DOES NOT last 30 days!!!

This has been very helpful for one of our cats who has a problem with aggression toward just one of our dogs. I worked as a vet tech for many years and we sold this. I recommended it to clients all the time so I am pleased to have first hand experience with it really working. I actually bought a second unit for the back area of our home where pet traffic can get tight. I have only 2 complaints. 1. It was delivered less than 3 weeks ago and I just noticed that it is DRY! Definitely not a 30 day supply! 2. It is leaving a bit of an oily film on things around where it is plugged in. We also purchased the dog version and have them both plugged in near the area where the most unwanted, undesirable interactions between these 2 animals occurs. The cat isn’t bothered by either of the other 2 dogs. His nemesis is fairly new to us (she’s sort of a foster) and 80+ pounds. I realized the dog was having seizures we are trying to get her regulated before we go back to looking for a home. My son found her but I’ve grown quite attached. She basically alerts me when my blood sugar gets too low and she literally will pull me up if I am on the floor or the ground (she wears a harness and I just grab on!) We definitely ruled out any medical issues right away and he’s completely healthy. He’s about 1 year old, neutered, etc. He also began redirecting his aggression to our other 2 cats and while his bad behavior hasn’t stopped completely… this has honestly helped. I’m just bummed that I’m going to have to get refills alot more frequently than I was expecting and its not cheap. Especially when you’re disabled, have no income and everyone within 100 miles thinks you are the local no kill shelter!! LOL

Life changing!! 😃 We have a purple and red one

These really work! There not just snake oil. We have 4 male and 5 female cats, and they started to get in fights once they reached a adulthood. In less than a hour I could see these working, we have two so they reach the hole house and they really do calm down cats! The cats run around less, they seem to eat a little less, they do seam calmer and with no hissy fit if anyone is to close to one another. We used to have a issue with the male cats peeing on the walls and such, but that hasn’t been a issue in 30 days. Also I forgot to order the refills and no sooner than I unplugged the device the cats were back to there bad habits.I put the refills in today and in less than a hour my house was at rest, so they really do work! They do last 30 days, but I noticed the red multi cat one ran out two days short because it’s close to a window, the room is hotter than the living room, or the HVAC return is sucking some out.I’ll switch the purple one and red one and see if I get the same outcome.10/10✨ great price, works, you can order 1 refills or more at a time.Really awesome for multi cat and mixed gender cats families.

I love Feliway and so do my 3 cats!

I’m a Registered Veterinary Technician who’s used Feliway in practice for years. I have 3 cats, two of which are a little aloof and easily spooked. One of the started urinating outside of the litter box when I changed litter brands. I immediately changed litter back and added 2 litter boxes in addition to the 2 we already had and I put 3 Feliway diffusers in the house. 1 each in the rooms where he had inappropriate urination. He started using the litter boxes more often but we’ve also notice the two cats who have been aloof for years have started hanging out with us and being more friendly and affectionate as well. I’m placing another order to prep for vacation when we’ll have a pet sitter for a week.

Seems to be working for my over grooming Siberian Forrest Cat mix ^_^

I will update in a month or so, but as of now this seems to be working for my girl. If you look at the two pictures, you can see that she has over groomed her belly and sides (and had started on the underside of her tail). This was devastating to me as she is a Siberian Forrest Cat mix with long, soft and silky fur. I believe she started having separation anxiety when I would leave for work-out of nowhere. Out of desperation and a referral from a vet I purchased and installed this on June 22, 2023 (it has only been just over 2 weeks as of today). I can already see a difference in her belly fur (it is coming back in already!) Happy fur baby mommy here!

A MUST BUY for acclimating cats!!!

Honestly, I was really skeptical at first because I didn’t think that a diffuser would be as beneficial as it would be to us, but I was so wrong!!For a bit of backstory, we have a three-year-old death cat, who was pretty scared of a new kitten that we had brought in. Our deaf cat was constantly hissing at the very site of the kitten or anything that remotely smelled like it. She was on edge constantly. We did the scent transfer, keeping them separated, everything else that we were supposed to, and it was barely making a dent in it for weeks.Within two days of having just one of these in our main area, where our deaf cat, like to hang out, we noticed that her demeanor, and how stressed she was, went down considerably. She could look at the kitten from a distance, and we were able to acclimate her properly with this diffuser. They still aren’t the best friends due to personality type difference, but they cohabitate swimmingly. We haven’t had to use a diffuser in probably two months. One of the main worries was that once the diffuser was gone, that the progress in the acclamation that we had put all that time and energy into would be gone. It wasn’t!

I was super skeptical but it works.

My cat had been peeing on the carpet since I went out of town on vacation 6/15. Even after I got back, nothing I did would stop him from peeing on the carpet at least 3x a day even though he would still use his litter box occasionally. My vet recommended this product and I’ll be honest, I was REALLY skeptical because it does kinda give essential oil vibes but literally from the minute I plugged it in he stopped peeing on the carpet. We’re talking 3x a day for two and a half weeks to literally nothing. Feliway saved my carpet and my sanity, so even if you have doubts about its efficacy I recommend that you give it a try.

    Works for my cats!<3

I just received this yesterday, and like everyone else, immediately plugged it in. I have two cats, a boy (Joe) and a girl (Zoie). Both are fixed. Joe is usually outside for most the evening/night time because he constantly needs to be stimulated and starts scratching furniture at 4AM to wake me up and let him out. My girl cat has extremely bad separation anxiety and freaks out anytime I leave the house, and tries to not let me leave and is constantly meowing and following my every move. They have a love-hate relationship with each other as both are dominant breeds and Zoie gets fed up with Joe fairly quickly, as we all do with men (haha), and randomly attacks him. They both cuddle with me often, play, and we go on two walks a day but I didn't know what else to do.I plugged it in my living room near their cat stand, I noticed a difference in Zoie RIGHT AWAY. I got off my couch twice while she was lying next to me and she didn't meow at me or get up out of anxiety that I might leave, we then went to bed and brought it into my room (they both always sleep with me) so I thought it was perfect to try while they were sleeping! BOTH my cats slept peacefully throughout the night and no one scratched on the furniture! We got up at 8AM. Zoie hasn't anxiously meowed at me all day and is outside right now with Joe!! She is chasing flies and isn't worried about what I'm doing at all. Joe seems well rested and didn't immeadiately get up and meow at me to go outside, he came over to lay on me a bit before even leaving my room to go get a snack before going out. This DEFINITELY works and I am so happy my babies are happy!! Thank you for this product!!!

    Can’t just be coincidence, right?

Back on the Tuesday before Christmas, I adopted a new adult cat (not quite 4 years old). I already had two 16 year old littermates I’ve had since they were only 4-5 months old. Since they’re getting up in age but have always had each other, I’ve wondered how one might do if/when the other is gone, and I thought it might be good if they had the chance to adjust to a younger companion before that time comes. (Well, ok – I also just love cats and would have even more if I could, but 3 is probably plenty!)Anyways, to put it plainly, things haven’t been going well. The new cat (who had spent basically his whole life in a shelter) was scared to death when I brought him home – wouldn’t eat, wouldn’t even poop, for days. When I went to try to catch him to get him to a vet, he bit me multiple times because he was so scared. I didn’t get mad at him, I understood, but I’ve been very worried how things were going to work out. He’s avoided me completely – ran, hid, just been petrified. He’s at least been eating and pooping like he should though. He’s fought with one of my other cats at least a couple times that I know of – they haven’t torn each other up but there has been a little bit of blood drawn. I’d resigned myself to the fact that the new guy might just take a very long time to ever get comfortable here, but both my vet and the Humane Society he came from suggested the Feliway plug in. I decided finally it couldn’t hurt, but I wasn’t optimistic. Got it yesterday evening. Plugged it in in the bedroom the new boy hides in the most.Well, I woke up this morning to the sounds of a cat fight. Definitely wasn’t a great sign, but I had read it could take a few days so I figured it didn’t mean much. Then, this evening, I hear the sound of the new guy walking on the hardwood floor around the corner, headed into the bedroom. I decide to go take a peek, and surprise, he’s looking back at me. And doesn’t run away. Then, he slowly walks into the room with me! Rubs up against several things, and then walks over to sniff at my hand from a distance. My other two cats appeared shortly thereafter, and he did slowly back away when the one he’s fought with came up to him, but even then he didn’t run, and they didn’t fight either. It’s been almost 2 months since I got him. The day after I plug in the Feliway, he comes into the room with me willingly for the first time? No way it’s just coincidence. It’s definitely working.(I rate it 5 stars for scent for 2 reasons – there’s indeed no scent to me, and whatever they can smell must be working!)

No more fighting or random pooping!

We have two cats… s 3 year old and a 10 year old. The youngest came to us as a tiny kitten so they are very bonded. They’ve always play-wrestled but lately the fights have gotten more frequent and aggressive, with lots of screaming and fur flying. Then, to make matters worse, the 10 year old started pooping around the house. After taking him to the vet and ruling out medical causes, it seemed to be a behavioral problem. Our vet recommended this product as one potential solution. After trying new litter and an additional box, neither of which worked, I broke down and ordered the Feliway starter kit. I was initially skeptical, but WOW does this thing work!!The package arrived yesterday at 7 a.m., I plugged it in and waited. We didn’t witness a single fight all day and both cats seemed calmer than usual…no running or chasing. Most importantly, I didn’t find any poop!Today, our house remains calm and poop free. I have to believe the pheromones are responsible. It’s not cheap but it’s worth it to restore tranquility and good litterbox habits.I’m sure it doesn’t solve every feline behavior problem, but it seems to be effective for us, so I recommend giving it a shot if you’re experiencing similar issues with your kitties.

    Noticeable difference

I purchased 2 of these in desperation to calm our cat down. He is large and just turned 1 and was attacking our small, passive Chihuahua (unprovoked) to the point it was getting concerning (latching on with claws and biting her neck refusing to let go)- our dog wouldn’t fight back but yelp in pain and hide vs being with everyone as usual…I’ll admit when I ordered I felt like it’d be snake oil but was kind of desperate… to my surprise, they worked! He not only stopped messing with her to a veryyyy noticeable extent, but is also just calmer and better behaved in general- seems more content and chill.I do wish it was a little more affordable as I use one on each end of the house so $40 some dollars a month kind of sucks, however it works great and I can’t complain (neither can the dog!) Will continue to purchase refills, definitely recommend.

    Good product, don’t auto deliver

I purchased when I moved house and both of my cats were very scared being in the new place and hid all the time. I think the product has worked very well. Want to point out that if you subscribe to auto delivery to save the 25% that it will send you the diffuser+oil combo each time which is unnecessary as the diffuser is good for 6 months.

    Works like described

I bought this for my older anxious cat to ease her anxiety. It helps as long as it’s directed at her when she’s inside. However I will need to buy more for my open plan room, so will report back when I try it outside of the contained area for cat. 🙂

It calms cats. We recently moved an elder cat from out of state due to job. We were concerned because of her age but we used this product and she has adjusted well to new household. I would give this a 5 star rating and purchase again

    Love it, repeat buyer.

It worked especially well when we started RV living (after a 3/2 house) with our three cats. They were very distressed until we installed this in the camper like we’d had in the house. Minimal scratching, less hissing (even by the calmest cat we have – it was so unlike him. The wild, fearless one was scared. The nervous one was her usual self after we started using it in the house.) 2 days after install: AW! PEACE at last!!!

This new formula is the greatest of all time

I have 5 cats and a small house. I have used Feliway classic in the past. It did work in a way. The good cats were even friendlier and the two problematic cats were maybe a little more relaxed but both were still doing problematic things. One marks and the other angrily growls from on top of the fridge sequestering herself from the rest of the pack. So I stopped using Feliway Classic cause its expensive and it just wasn’t stopping the problems. Anyway, things went from bad to worse. The marking increased and the fridge cat seemed increasingly pissed and anxious. So anxious she starting going outside the litter box not wanting to leave the safety of the kitchen. I was also feeling intense guilt that her golden years were seeming like they were going to be spent angry on top of a fridge only coming down to relieve herself. Both were looked at by a vet. The one that marks was put on fluoxetine and special food but it still didn’t stop the marking entirely. I decided to give Feliway another chance hoping that in addition to medication we could stop the marking. Then I see it A NEW FORMULA! I bought four. There are two in the kitchen and two in the living room (overkill maybe). I made it harder for angry cat to get onto the fridge by putting cat food up there and moving some things around. I put a heated cat bed on the kitchen table and she got in. It certainly wasn’t perfect but now that she was down off the fridge we can play with her and give her attention. Unfortunately the other cats were interested in the bed too. She went out to the catio and came back in looking for her bad only to find another cat in it. I bought another heated bed and put it in the living room but everyone seems to want hers. A few nights pass and she just starts walking out to the living room like she hasn’t been living on top of the fridge for two years. My boyfriend and I were playing video games and just kind of stopped and watched in wonder and amazement. She jumps up on the couch nestles in and takes a nap. The marking one isn’t too pleased with this but has only marked once this week and it was on the couch (go figure), probabably cause it smells like the angry cat. But in one week my cranky anxious cat is acting way more comfortable and the marking one only marked once. I am so happy right now. I have tears in my eyes writing this review. If you are having problems I think you owe yourself and cats one more chance.

    Skeptical turned believer

We adopted a cat from our local Humane Society over a week ago to fill the emptiness of having to recently put down our 18 year old that we got as a tiny baby. We have an 11 year old calico that has quite a “princess” personality. Also got as a tiny kitten. She missed her big sister like crazy – (although she never showed affection toward the older girl other than a bitch-slap here & there as she walked by her) – but she expected her to always be here. This new kitty they tell us is about 3 years old & has had a litter of kittens, but was separated from them after she was spayed. She had been found outside with her litter in the cold, cold winter, and they are sure that she had been a house cat prior. Probably abandoned due to the pregnancy, but who knows for sure. Anyway, new kitty has been very, very scared & timid. Living under furniture. Won’t let us pet her, or touch her. Comes out when we’re in bed at night to eat & potty. Our vet recommended this little device. I bought it with no expectations. I assumed it would just take time. Received the thing today, plugged it in around 4pm. At 8pm I’m sitting at my computer & hear a little sound behind me. Here is new kitty, lying up on the couch in the living room behind me! I ignored her, & got up & down from the computer, went in & out of the room several times. She stayed right there on the couch! For 2 hours! Actually, until I walked over to see if I could pet her. She decided that I could not do that yet, & under the couch she went. Now, it could certainly be a coincidence, or that enough time had passed that she was suddenly comfortable. But I don’t know. Sure is interesting! Anyway.. I am now a Believer! It does seem a bit expensive, but it was actually a few dollars less on Amazon than it was when I looked at them at my grocery store today. I’m giving this thing a huge thumbs up, coz I just don’t feel like it was just coincidence that new kitty got that comfortable all of a sudden. I definitely recommend!!!

    Worked For Us

TL;DR: Got it to help two cats get along, ended up doing that AND helping a cat with crippling anxiety come out of her shell. The long version: We have two cats – a cranky 10-year-old female long hair we got at age 4 and a 2-year-old female Maine Coon that we got as a kitten. While the two get along great, the Maine Coon has extreme anxiety and is largely scared of any movement in a room that she is in and will retreat to her hidey-hole in the closet. Despite several attempts at remedying the situation, veterinary or otherwise, nothing has helped, and we just assumed this was her personality. We recently took in a 1-year-old one-eyed female with a wonderful personality who just wants to be friends with everyone – people and cats – but the expected reaction from both cats were total opposite of our expectations. The cranky long hair socialized with her almost immediately can has no problem sharing the same space, but at a frenemy level – will sit in the same window a foot apart, but not laying on each other or fighting. The Maine Coon’s reaction was what surprised us, as she became downright aggressive and chased the new cat away in almost every near interaction and at night, there would be loud, physical altercations in the house which is when we started looking for solutions. After some research and reading many forum posts and product reviews, we gave the FELIWAY Optimum Cat Enhanced Calming Pheromone Diffuser a shot, placing it in the hallway outside our bedroom where most of the nighttime fights occur and after just 12 hours, we had the first night without a loud fight between the two. Sure, there was some hissing and low growling, but not the sound of two angry cats going at it, so we’re counting that as an improvement.Fast-forward to the 72-hour mark, and not only did we get a night with no negative contact between them, but in the morning, our Maine Coon walked into a room with us standing up – remember, she’s scared of anyone who is moving or could potentially be moving, so this was a kind of shocking. We went about our morning, and she continued to surprise us by actually coming into the living room and laying down on the rug as me, my wife, and our 10 yo son were hanging out. She was like a new cat all of a sudden, and the only thing that had changed was plugging in the FELIWAY Optimum diffuser. Going to add a couple more for total coverage as having her enjoy life and be able to spend time around everyone is well worth it, so hoping that this helps others in similar situations as well.

Temporarily Calms Down a Hyper Kitten

I bought this because I’m at my wit’s end on how to stop my kitten from going crazy and rampaging around the home like a rodent on drugs despite all the toys he has to play with and other cats to frolic with. I was skeptical about how well this works so I didn’t really want to buy it since it seemed like it was targeted more at stressed/anxious kitties but I’m at the point where I’ll try whatever options that seem to work. After about 15 minutes of having it plugged in, it seemed to work. I watched my kitten for about an hour in the same room. For the first 10 minutes of watching him, he sat calmly at a distance, but within range, of the diffuser. The next 20 minutes after, he went to his blanky and rested peacefully and I was so in awe. For the next 30 minutes after that, he did not remain rested as I had hoped but he didn’t run around like crazy all over the room and managed to stay by my side on the bed, just trying to play with me but his version of play includes teething and extending his claws out, so I was starting to lose hope. BUT I ended up getting him comfy with his blanky again and next thing I know, I was able to pass out for about 3 hours before he decided to wake me up again for lunchtime.BUT, that was a nice 3 hours of sleep where he actually remained calm. So in a way, I was pleasantly satisfied that it seems like the diffuser works enough. I’m not super impressed or awed but I guess it’s just because he woke me up after 3 hours. I’ll give it time and hopefully, it will continue working enough for me to want to purchase more refills.

We have used this product on and off for years!

The expense is the reason we cannot CONTINUALLY use this source of calming aid. We simply cannot afford it. I would use all the time if I could. We need three running in different areas of the house, and between flea treatments and vet bills, our four cats stretch us thin.I have found a cannabis tincture for a fraction in the price of this that works as well as this, with just a couple drops in their food.If I could afford it, I would run these all the time. We are not happy when our babies are not happy! These do help with the squabbles!

    Anxiety annihilator

The collar was a little large and I didn’t want to cut it– I used a little Velcro strap and wrapped it around the collar so the excess didn’t flop everywhere. We tried a lot of things to help our cat and it may have been a combination of things that finally worked. In the end, the collar seemed to make a huge difference. I’ll also say that this brand worked better than another that we tried. Our cat is almost a different cat now. Previously, she was super anxious and wouldn’t let you even approach her. It got to a point where she was using the bathroom everywhere except where she was supposed to. Now she actually approaches us and lets us pet her (albeit a little conservatively). This collar definitely contributed to our cat’s now friendly demeanor and allowed us to keep her in our home 🙂

Seems to calm down my crazy kitten

I’ve owned 5 cats over the past 10 years and remember seeing this product in the past thinking why would you need something like this, seems like a waste of money. Recently I decided to adopt a kitten from my local shelter, I had a kitten before so I thought I knew what I was in for. She is very affectionate and sweet but is constantly getting into things, tormenting my older cat and aggressively attacking my plants, biting and scratching me (playfully), and only letting me sleep for a few hours night. I realized I got lucky with my previous kitten who wasn’t nearly as hyper and that this is probably typical kitten behavior so I just had to find a way to deal with it. I decided to purchase this even though I was still hesitant, but so far I’m glad I did. The first few hours of this being plugged in, my kitten mostly napped. When she woke up, she ate her wet food dinner as usual but instead of getting the after dinner zoomies which included attacking both my older cat and my plants, she calmly played with her toys. She didn’t seem sedated, just not as insanely hyper. While this product states it only works on cats, I felt oddly calm as well. Probably because my kitten wasn’t constantly causing a ruckus for the first time in two months and I was finally able to sleep through the night. My older cat seems calmer as well. Time will tell if it continues working, if so I plan to purchase the refills.

    I don’t think my cats care…

I ordered it because they would NOT stop peeing everywhere. It started randomly after having them for 3 years. The Tom fights with the others so I thought it would help calm him as well. I ordered a replacement and a second unit to plug in another room. I’ve had it for over 2 months. After about 7 weeks, they randomly stopped peeing everywhere. So I don’t know if it’s the feliway or something else. The Tom is still a bully. : ) However, to make it last longer, I unplug it at night because it does NOT last 30 days if plugged in 24/7.

Does this do anything? It’s hard to be sure.

I adopted a former street cat with some psychological and health problems, and for the first month he was aggressive and completely untouchable. I tried a Feliway spray, which didn’t seem to calm him, but did appear to temporarily curb scratching in inappropriate areas. Scientific studies show little evidence that these pheromone diffusers impact cat behavior and I am a skeptic. But people kept recommending it, so eventually I moved him into a single room of the house and started using a Feliway Classic diffuser from a local pet store. Within a few days he begin to calm down and allow himself to be touched and handled. However, it’s unclear if this was a result of the diffuser, confinement to a smaller space, or just the passage of time. I strongly suspect that the smaller space was the main factor, along with a lot of persistent attention. In the weeks after the diffuser ran out, he continue to progress. However, it seemed the diffuser may have helped, so I began using this second diffuser (the Optimum) around the time I allowed the cat free rein of the house again. He doesn’t spend much time around it, in fact seeming to avoid it, and he continues to be very anxious and cry a lot, even while sitting in the same room as the diffuser.I don’t plan to buy refills, and instead I’ve resorted to calming treats, play dates with a companion cat, and intense play sessions to try to calm him. I’m also going to try a Thundershirt. I don’t really regret trying the diffusers, but they’re expensive and I think the value is questionable, at least for some behaviors and some cats.Another slightly annoying thing is that both diffusers leaked significant amounts of oil. In each case, they were properly installed but they still left puddles of oil on the floor below. Maybe more oil was ending up on the floor than being diffused. Perhaps because of this, the first diffuser lasted less than three weeks, and the second seems to be on a similar path.

Worked really well to help our cats through a move

This worked really well to help our cats relax after we moved to a new house. They gravitate toward the room where we keep this running, and are MUCH more relaxed than they would normally be with any changes in environment, much less an entirely new house.

    It worked!

I really appreciate all the prior reviews on the warnings. Taking that into consideration, I went ahead and bought this product out of near desperation and decided to only plug it in when I am home and not continually. I recently moved, unknowingly, near a clay shooting site and we also get frequent thunder storms here (a different state than our former mostly “one weather” California). Since at my new location, my kitty Aiden has been having a rough time of it. My heart was breaking for my poor little boy. Because of the clay shooting and thunderstorms, he would hide then sleep most of the time. The Feliway spray did nothing. Well since using the Feliway Diffuser, within a couple days, I got my darling boy back. I’d say it’s about 95% effective. He’s out more, wants to play and cuddle, talking to me more and when the clay shooters are doing their thing, he still hides initially but then comes out shortly thereafter and hangs out with everyone, takes baths and even sleeps belly up or in the kitty tower instead of frightened under the bed all day. In addition, all my cats seem happier and more at ease with each other…less pettiness. On the safety issue: I’m careful not to tilt the diffuser so no oil spills over and I have no other cords above it and I only plug it in during the day and unplug it at night or when stepping out keeping in mind what others have noted on the hazards of this product. The light is a bit bright at night but I quit plugging it in at night for the safety concern. I hope Feliway makes a safer product or a battery option because it has really helped Aiden and all the kits in my household and my heart is no longer breaking 🙂 Best wishes and resolution for all the stressed out cats and their caring pet parents.

    Amazing Product!

I adopted another cat as a buddy for my resident kitty, but as you can expect, their relationship for the first two weeks was quite rocky. My resident became withdrawn, reserved, and quiet, while the foster cat was becoming more agitated and shied away from any interaction with us.After an expensive vet visit after my resident cat would start throwing up and refused to eat. I decided to try Feliway. I think I should’ve tried this before paying a thousand bucks for the vet. Resident cat is finally perking up and has his appetite back and the foster cat is feeling more confident and friendlier with her brother. You may think it’s crazy expensive, but I guarantee you this is worth the expense because the vet was more expensive for us only to find out there was nothing medically wrong and he was just stressed. Please give this a try!

OMG! Beyond my expectations, and a good night’s sleep…FINALLY!

My formerly stray cat adopted me a few months ago after spending much of the summer in my back yard. While he’s mostly made the transition to living indoors, he REALLY wants out at night and lets me know LOUDLY and several times a night. He almost got his wish two nights ago…permanently! He’s an “intact” male who has a neutering appointment in about 3 weeks. As a 15+ pound 2ish year old tomcat, he’s big and LOUD.I heard about Feliway from the Vet Tech at today’s appointment with the Animal Eye Doctor. She sprayed some on a cloth and put it in his carrier and it REALLY calmed him down, and fast! A couple hours later he was still very calm and I called to find out what he was sedated with…only to learn they’d used no drugs, just Feliway! After a quick Amazon search I found that I could have the starter kit delivered THE SAME DAY – HECK YEAH!Last night was the first night I was able to get some good sleep in a long time. At one point he called out about 3-4 times, and it wasn’t that loud but it was the ONLY time last night…unlike the multiple loud yowling sessions the previous nights. So I’m a VERY satisfied customer…after the first night!. He’s much calmer and more friendly to me today as well.Definitely 5 stars …but only because 6 isn’t an option!

    For stressed & anxious cats

I received this Feliway yesterday. I immediately plugged it in cause one of our cats was over grooming and not acting like her usual self. It started a couple of days after our dog came back from a day at the vet and she had to wear the famous cone of shame. Unfortunately, it seems like it affected one of our cats in a way we didn’t know. We think all the changes that happened since our dog came back had a negative effect on her. So, I decided to order a Feliway to see if it’d help. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence but it’s been 24h and she hasn’t try to lick where she has that raw bald spot on her chest! She seems more relaxed as well. The only downside: the unit has leaked on our hardwood floor. I’ve put a box under it to prevent this from happening again and you can see in the picture that it has leaked again. I might start a return or just deal with it.

Expensive but worth every penny – allowed us to reintegrate our two cats

We have had our two cats for almost 2 years. They had become aggressive with each other more and more over time. We recalled that we had used feliway when we first brought them home to introduce them to each other along with keeping them separate. So we did the whole thing over again but without the feliway, not because we were cheap or anything, but because we thought it was a gimmick and that the vet must’ve been getting kickbacks or something lol. It didn’t work, they were at each other’s throats, and we considered rehoming one of them, instead we kept them separate again for longer and tried again, still didn’t work. So a friend who volunteers at a shelter told us to try the Feliway again, not a generic but the feliway brand ones. I bought a 2-pack of diffusers, put them up, reintegrated them slowly over the next week… and it worked. the strangest thing is that they just ignored each other. which was better than fighting constantly, they stopped bullying each other at feeding time, they stopped running when the other was around… and here I am sitting in my home office with one in the window and one on the desk and they’re just co-existing without hissing or growling, and I’m about to cry. Thanks for making these things! they work!

This is working fantastic in our house with 1 newer cat and our 3 others

So, I have 4 cats. One showed up on our driveway with a shattered rear leg, malnourished, anemic, etc. Our 3 housecats were pretty good about this adult female cat (Trixie) once she had strength to leave the cage we set up. So 4 months down the road I decided to play with them all with the laser pointer and it freaked them all out as they ran into one and another. It’s been a disaster since as they don’t trust Trixie. I put Comfort Zone Diffusers in every room. I had to add a cage in the living room for when things got heated up. Things have worked out really well since using the Feliway Difusser with Trixie and 2 of our cats but not the oldest female (Panda). It’s good the majority of the time using Jackson Galaxy’s methods.I purchased this Feliway Diffuser and put it in the living room and it has really helped a lot. The days are good and some evenings I still have to do a bit of time out in the cage with Trixie. When Trixie starts stressing Panda and Chica out, I spray Feliway in the palm of my hand and then pet their heads and they all calm right down so I also highly recommend the spray too.I highly recommend this particular diffuser if you have a multiple cat home and are trying to add another cat into your household.

My Cat is Back to the Sweet Kitty I Once Knew!

My cat used to be the most well trained kitty most people had ever seen. We trained her to not go on furniture, counters, the bed…we trained her to come when called, to play fetch, to get in her bed when asked. She was the easiest, sweetest cat that any of our family and friends had come across…until we got ‘The Dog’. She has always been a bit of a fraidy cat, and instead of showing the dog who was boss (and he was VERY careful and scared of her at first), she just let him take over and do what he wanted. He was/is always kind to her, but she definitely started getting less attention with the dog in the house. She started showing her irritation by going to the bathroom outside of her litter box. We tried everything to fix this, but to no avail. We even had to put her on kitty Prozac…this helped, but she was still not back to the sweet cat she was.So 2 months ago I decided to try this product. I would say within a week, we noticed a difference. By 2-3 weeks, there was a huge difference. She started wanting affection more, stopped using other potty spots, and sticks to her box now. What amazed me the most though, for the last 2-3 years, I had been inviting her up on the bed, but she wanted none of it. To my surprise, about 3 weeks ago, she actually jumped up on the bed with me AND the DOG and hung out with us for hours. I was shocked! Excuse the mess in the pictures, I was sick and doing taxes. I would say the Feliway Optimum has definitely made a big difference for us, and believe me…I had been skeptical.I have seen other reviews about it smoking and having problems, we have not had those problems. The first time I changed it, I did notice quite a bit of the oil had leaked out onto the outer part of the plug, so I suppose that could cause an issue, but so far so good. You can leave then paper wrapped around it, or peel it off so you can see how much is left at the end of the 30 days. We keep ours plugged in right above the cats bed. Fingers crossed, we can eventually make these two best friends…because the dog REALLY wants that.

Worked in only a few days. Long lasting.

It worked rather quickly, in about a week. My repeat offender calmed down and hasn’t had any outbursts since I plugged the unit in. I’m considering unplugging it every other week to make it last even longer.

    Great purchase

My cat would get anxious when we would pack to go on vacation. She would be that way till we got back. She would get urinary infections because she was so anxious . A very dear friend told me about this product and it works. We ordered this and put it out for Socks and she has been fine since. Would highly recommend for someone who has a pet with anxiety

Good brand but didn’t work 🙁

Unfortunately, this product didnt work for me. I gave it more than a month and the cat still has behavioral issues. Tried to get him to play and had a check up for him at the vet. But that didn’t do much. The reviews seemed great but my cat seems very immune to pheromones.

    Wow!

Just wow! We adopted 3 cats. Left our dogs elsewhere while they acclimated to their new home. Two did very well. The third was clearly traumatised by something from her past. It was slow (2 months) to get her to come downstairs and then for no more than maybe 30 mins tops. But she did daily and so we brought the dogs back. We left a gate at the stairs so she still felt safe from dogs if needed. She stopped coming downstairs completely for 3 months. We took her to vet for another issue and they mentioned Feliway. Today is day 5 of having it plugged in and she has been coming down slowly. Today she actually walked into the same room where my husky was 8’ away from her. She’s still skittish, but just wow! I just walked around the corner and she is still downstairs 4 hours later and found her SLEEPING on a bag over by the stairs. She has never slept downstairs in the 6 months that we have had her. We used the Feliway plug in upstairs. We also bought the Natures Miracle Spray because it’s cheaper than the Feliway spray and sprayed it around the downstairs. Together they have worked a miracle.

    SO FAR, SO GOOD!

We have used this for 2 days only and we can already see a difference in our cat. He is mellowing out quite nicely. Not as fearful.

    Not Effective For My Cats

My smaller cat gets easily upset by people coming into my home, dogs barking outside, and loud external noises. One bad event in the morning and I miss my lap cat all day while he hides under the covers.I had hoped that this would help him calm back down quicker, but I don’t believe it has had any noticeable effect. This cat is also one that isn’t greatly effected by catnip. I cannot smell anything from the device. My other cat who is a big brave kitty also hasn’t really noticed it. Worth a try, but not a success for my home.

    Initially not a believer!

Since covid almost three years, I haven’t traveled anywhere overnight. I have two cats, totally dependent on my love and care and I have an amazing sitting service I’ve used for years. Because of the time I was going to be gone 7 days I decided to invest in the diffuser and I am absolutely thrilled at the results. Kitty sitters reported friendly and fun interaction with Thelma and Louise, no reports of vomiting or irregularities in the litter box. This is a first for sure and I have ordered refills to be used on future trips.
